In this paper, a 1-bit uniform one-dimension (1-D) antenna array used for calculating radiation pattern of antenna is discussed. For this kind of antenna array, the amplitude of elements can only be set as 0 or 1. The method based on adjusting amplitude of elements for changing radiation angle is put forward. To generate uniform field distribution, the condition of beam switching is introduced and a new beam-scanning scheme which controls the gain of different beams by adjusting the number of used elements is discussed. A simulated example is used and calculated to verify the new beam-scanning scheme. The normalized radiation pattern, the normalized received power and the states of elements are shown. In this example, 20 beams which have different radiation angle and gain are used to generate a merged received power based on the principle of beam switching. From the calculated results, the last merged received power becomes uniform, which verifies the new beam-scanning scheme. © 2023 IEEE.

After the vortex beam is transmitted in the space laser communication scene for hundreds of kilometers, the spot diameter will expand to several meters or even tens of meters, and the existing detection methods that require receiving the whole spot are no longer applicable. In order to address this problem, a distributed detection scheme is proposed in this paper for demultiplexing two L-G beams. We choose two specific points on the light spot to receive two optical signals. Then the two optical signals are interfered with a designed optical fiber path which use the cross-coupling of the coupler. Then the demultiplexing is achieved according to the interference results at two ports. The feasibility of this scheme is theoretically analyzed, and the demultiplexing of L-G beams with multiple combinations of topological charge numbers is realized. © 2024, The Authors. all rights reserved.

In this paper, a triple-layer SIW-fed linearly polarized antenna with endfire and pm broadside radiations is proposed for 5G Millimeter-Wave Applications. The pattern changes by switching different ports. When port 1 or port 3 is excited, the slots on the top and bottom layers work as the radiators to provide broadside patterns. When port 2 is excited, a horizontal magnetic current at the open aperture can be generated which is complementary to the electric dipole made up of the metal vias around, thereby obtaining an endfire beam. The proposed antenna has a compact size and shows good radiation performance. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent years, O-band bismuth-doped fiber amplifier (BDFA) have been rapidly developed due to the fluorescence properties of bismuth-doped glass in the near-infrared (NIR) band, while there are still few studies on bismuth-doped fibers (BDF) with large mode fields as of now. In addition, although the use of a double-pass structure on the amplifier can lead to gain improvement, this also deteriorates the noise figure (NF). Therefore, the study of bismuth-doped fibers with large mode-field areas is a promising path to develop high-performance BDFA. In this work, taking a commercial bismuth-doped fiber as an instance, we first measured the refractive index distribution of the BDF in the O-band using a self-developed fiber refractive index tester, and thereby obtained its actual mode-field area. Then, based on this we further propose an irregular Bragg bismuth-doped fiber with the refractive index growing layer by layer. The results suggests that the effective mode-field area of this fiber reaches 401 um² at 1320 nm, which is nearly 5.8 times that of a common single-mode BDF. Finally, we performed numerical simulations of the amplification performance based on this fiber. Under the condition of total pumping power of 8 W, the signal with −20 dBm input power obtains a gain of more than 54 dB and an NF of less than 5 dB at 1320 nm wavelength. This work demonstrates the great potential of this Bragg bismuth-doped fiber as an O-band high-gain amplifier and high-power laser. © 2024 The Author(s)

A dual-band magneto-electric (ME) monopole fed by a self-reconfigurable waveguide is proposed. By loading periodic structures with a stopband, the waveguide owns two operating bands supporting the single quasi TE10 mode. The antenna is developed based on the combination of an open-ended self-reconfigurable waveguide and electric monopoles that separately operate in microwave and millimeter-wave bands. Stable radiation characteristics are achieved within the low-frequency band from 10.6 to 11.7 GHz and the high-frequency band from 30.9 to 41 GHz, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

A compact reconfigurable filtering antenna is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna consists of a fork-shaped radiation patch, a four-pole hairpin feeding network, a T-branch and two PIN diodes. The PIN diodes inside the feeding network can switch the operation frequency bands. By turning ON/OFF the diode D1 and D2, the antenna can work in 1.5-1.6GHz (L-band for satellite communication), 2-2.1GHz (n65 band for LTE) and 3.3-3.4GHz (indoor communication for 5G). The antenna can be used for multiple purposes. © 2022 IEEE.

We investigate the performance and complexity of minimum mean square error (MMSE) and alternating direction method of multipliers based infinity-norm (ADMIN) for mode dependent loss (MDL) impaired mode division multiplexing (MDM) systems. Our result shows the performance of ADMIN is better than that of MMSE in medium and small MDL. In QPSK modulation mode, the computational complexity of ADMIN detection algorithm is lower than that of MMSE. In addition, we studied how to continue to improve the performance of the ADMIN detection algorithm. We found that the increase of the ß parameter will significantly improve the performance of ADMIN in the MDL communication system without increasing the computational complexity. When the ß parameter is increased by 20 times, the BER performance changes from 10-4 to 10-5, which is an order of magnitude improvement. © 2022 SPIE.

The millimeter-wave high-gain wideband antenna arrays with dual- and linearly-polarized radiation realized by the three-dimensional (3D) printing technology are summarized in this paper. The dual-polarized magneto-electric (ME) dipole and horn antennas serving as the radiating elements are fed by the air-filled full-corporate feed networks. A novel air-filled differential feeding cavity loaded with a shorted-ended cross-shaped waveguide are employed to widen the bandwidth for the array with dual-polarization. In view of the theoretical analysis based on the one-time-reflection circuit model, the X-junctions and multi-reflection-nulls T -junctions are respectively cascaded to form the X-type and H-type topology full-corporate feed networks in order to achieve bandwidth enhancement for the large-scale array. The measured results of the three arrays have confirmed that the 3D-printed arrays are attractive candidate for various millimeter-wave wireless applications. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a dual broadband circularly polarized (CP) array antenna with shared aperture for C- and K-band application. First, the CP operation for C-band element is generated by four square ring patches which are fed by an unequal cross slot. Second, a CP magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna with one pair of horizontal patches connected is used as the main radiator for K-band. The coupling slot etched on the ground is modified as cross-shaped to enhance the CP bandwidth. Last, a C-band 2×2 array and K-band 4×4 array are interlaced together at a shared aperture. The simulated results show the proposed antenna exhibits a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 16.5% and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 16.2% at C-band, while has a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 52.4% and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 33.7% at K-band. © 2023 IEEE.
