Low Complexity Detection Algorithms Based on ADMIN for Massive MIMO

This paper proposes the alternating direction method of multipliers-based infinity-norm(ADMIN) with threshold(ADMIN-T) and with percentage(ADMIN-P) detection algorithms,which make full use of the distribution of the signal to interference plus noise ratio(SINR) for an uplink massive MIMO *** ADMIN-T and ADMIN-P detection algorithms are improved visions of the ADMIN detection algorithm,in which an appropriate SINR threshold in the ADMIN-T detection algorithm and a certain percentage in the ADMIN-P detection algorithm are designed to reduce the overall computational *** detected symbols are divided into two parts by the SINR threshold which is based on the cumulative probability density function(CDF) of SINR and a percentage,*** symbols in higher SINR part are detected by *** interference of these symbols is then cancelled by successive interference cancellation(SIC).Afterwards the remaining symbols with low SINR are iteratively detected by *** simulation results show that the ADMIIN-T and the ADMIN-P detection algorithms provide a significant performance gain compared with some recently proposed detection *** addition,the computational complexity of ADMIN-T and ADMIN-P are significantly ***,in the case of same number of transceiver antennas,the proposed algorithms have a higher performance compared with the case of asymmetric transceiver antennas.

Modeling optimization design and amplification characteristics of O-band irregular Bragg bismuth-doped fiber amplifier

In recent years, O-band bismuth-doped fiber amplifier (BDFA) have been rapidly developed due to the fluorescence properties of bismuth-doped glass in the near-infrared (NIR) band, while there are still few studies on bismuth-doped fibers (BDF) with large mode fields as of now. In addition, although the use of a double-pass structure on the amplifier can lead to gain improvement, this also deteriorates the noise figure (NF). Therefore, the study of bismuth-doped fibers with large mode-field areas is a promising path to develop high-performance BDFA. In this work, taking a commercial bismuth-doped fiber as an instance, we first measured the refractive index distribution of the BDF in the O-band using a self-developed fiber refractive index tester, and thereby obtained its actual mode-field area. Then, based on this we further propose an irregular Bragg bismuth-doped fiber with the refractive index growing layer by layer. The results suggests that the effective mode-field area of this fiber reaches 401 um² at 1320 nm, which is nearly 5.8 times that of a common single-mode BDF. Finally, we performed numerical simulations of the amplification performance based on this fiber. Under the condition of total pumping power of 8 W, the signal with −20 dBm input power obtains a gain of more than 54 dB and an NF of less than 5 dB at 1320 nm wavelength. This work demonstrates the great potential of this Bragg bismuth-doped fiber as an O-band high-gain amplifier and high-power laser. © 2024 The Author(s)

In order to improve the performance of bit-interleaved polar coded MIMO systems (BI-PC-MIMO), we propose two optimized interleavers for BI-PC-MIMO with parallel antenna partition. One of the schemes is the generalized method of compound interleaver and the other one flips the bits twice before mapping them to the symbols with modulation scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed interleaving schemes can outperform the random interleaver with 0.25dB for 16QAM in some certain configurations. ©2021 IEEE

The photonic neural processing unit(PNPU)demonstrates ultrahigh inference speed with low energy consumption,and it has become a promising hardware artificial intelligence(AI)***,the nonidealities of the photonic device and the peripheral circuit make the practical application much more *** than optimizing the photonic device,the architecture,and the algorithm individually,a joint device-architecture-algorithm codesign method is proposed to improve the accuracy,efficiency and robustness of the ***,a full-flow simulator for the PNPU is developed from the back end simulator to the high-level training framework;Second,the full system architecture and the complete photonic chip design enable the simulator to closely model the real system;Third,the nonidealities of the photonic chip are evaluated for the PNPU *** average test accuracy exceeds 98%,and the computing power exceeds 100TOPS.

Frequencies above 100 GHz are envisaged to provide substantially higher capacity and lower latency in wireless telecommunications. Moving to higher frequencies comes with unique challenges to be addressed, including poor coupling efficiency from free space in and out of planar air-core waveguides. Here, we design, fabricate and demonstrate a 3D printed horn coupler which improves the normalized transmittance of a hybrid photonic crystal waveguide by 20 dB. This work provides a fast, convenient and economical way of customizing couplers for different waveguide ports and could be integrated in terahertz devices.

A tunable frequency-multiplying optoelectronic oscillator(OEO) based on a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator(DPMZM) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the proposed system, the tunable fundamental microware signal is generated by a tunable optoelectronic oscillator incorporating a phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating(PS-FBG). By adjusting the DC bias of the DPMZM, the frequency-doubled microwave signal with a tunable frequency range from 11 GHz to 20 GHz and the frequency-quadrupled microwave signal with a tunable frequency range from 22.5 GHz to 26 GHz are generated. The phase noises of the fundamental, frequency-doubled and frequency-quadrupled signals at 10 k Hz offset frequency are-105.9 d Bc/Hz,-103.3 d Bc/Hz and-86.2 d Bc/Hz, respectively.

Structure on crosstalk and bending loss in homogeneous few-mode multi-core fibers

We present a novel dense hole-assisted structure (DHAS) in homogeneous few-mode multi-core fibers (FM-MCFs) for significantly suppressing inter-core crosstalk (XT) and bending loss while realizing a high spatial density in limited cladding diameter. The fabrication methods of DHAS FM-MCFs are illustrated and the equivalent model of DHAS is proposed. To point out the superiority, the XT of a DHAS 7-core 4-LP-mode fiber is investigated by an average power-coupling coefficients analytical expression in DHAS model and the equivalent model, respectively. A simple derived analytical expression for XT estimation in the trench-assisted homogeneous MCFs is introduced to verify the change of XT with fiber parameters in the equivalent model. The results imply that the XT obtained by the equivalent model is in good agreement with the one through DHAS model. Furthermore, the bending loss and chromatic dispersion dependences on DHAS are calculated by the finite element method (FEM). Through numerical simulations, we show that the DHAS has great contribution to meet the XT value requirement of lower than-30 dB/100km and make the bending loss values satisfy the ITU-T recommendations of G. 654 in a 7-core 4-LP-mode fiber with a 125-_m cladding diameter. The designed structure targets applications in space division multiplexing (SDM) fibers with independent transmission channels. © 2020 Optical Society of America.

Temperature-Insensitive Strain Sensor Based on Few-Mode Fiber

An all-fiber strain sensor based on the few-mode fiber (FMF) hybrid construction is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to solve the problem of cross-sensitivity between strain and temperature. The proposed sensor is constructed by three pieces of FMFs that are the dislocation fusion structure. The strain sensitivity of the sensor is analyzed by the wavelength shift and light intensity. According to the wavelength shift analysis, experimental results show that the strain sensitivity of the proposed sensor is −3.13 pm/μΕ and −2.85 pm/μΕ at the wavelength of resonance peaks dipA and dipB in the strain range from 0 to 700 μΕ. Meanwhile, the wavelengths of resonance peaks dipA and dipB show few wavelengths shift in the temperature range of 20-60 ℃, which provides the possibility for the proposed sensor in strain sensing applications without cross-sensitivity under a temperature range of 20-60 ℃. According to the light intensity analysis, we find that there is a linear relationship between the amplitude of the spatial frequency spectrum and strain variation, and the amplitude decreases with the increase of strain at 0.026 nm-1 and 0.045 nm-1. The strain sensitivity is −0.0003 a.u./μΕ at 0.026 nm-1 and −0.0004 a.u./μΕ at 0.045 nm-1, and there is no spatial frequency shift as the strain increases. From the aspects of practicality and performance, the proposed strain sensor is not only easy to construct but also temperature insensitive. These advantages make the proposed strain sensor very promising in practical sensing applications under different temperatures. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Alignment has a significant influence on the characteristics of single mode- few mode- single mode (SFS) fiber interferometer. In this paper, the fiber interferometer based on dual LP0n-mode few-mode fibers under single core-offset alignment is presented, which can provide a good comb spectrum. Compared with the axially aligned SFS, this alignment can obtain good extinction ratio using conventional fibers; compared with the both side core-offset SFS, this alignment can provide optimization fabrication and has good fabrication repeatability.
