We demonstrate a pulse delay of 1.5 ns over a wide bandwidth via stimulated Brillouin scattering in an optical fiber pumped by a swept source with a sweep rate of 20 MHz/μs. © 2010 Optical Society of America.

The distributed circuit parameters of three kinds of chamfered bent microstrip lines are extracted and analyzed. In the implementation, the distributed voltage and current on the transmission lines are calculated first by the conformal finite differential time domain method (CFDTD). Then, the distributed circuit parameters are obtained by substituting the distributed voltage and current into the generalized transmission line equation (GTLE). The distributed parameters of the chamfered bent microstrip lines are compared with those from the right angle bent microstrip line. The differences of voltage, current and circuit parameters between chamfered bent lines and right angle bent line are analyzed by electromagnetic theory. © 2010 IEEE.

A novel planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) for wireless communications in the wireless local-area network (WLAN) bands is studied, which is analyzed by the Finite Difference Time Domain Method (FDTD). The bandwidths defined by return loss less than -10 dB of the proposed antenna are about 1.21 GHz, from 2.27 to 3.48 GHz, and about 1.88 GHz, from 5.12 to 7 GHz. They can cover the frequency bands of 2.4, 5.2, and 5.8 GHz of WLAN. The antenna has been constructed and tested, and both theoretical and experimental results are presented and discussed. © 2010 IEEE.

A new microwave photonic filter (MPF) hybrid of MZM and fiber loop that can realize both multiple taps and flat response is presented. Based on the phase character of Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) and the fiber loop with some length of erbium-doped fiber (EDF), a two taps finite impulse response (FIR) filter and a high Q filter are got respectively. Combining the two filters, the flat bandpass or bandstop response is realized by changing the coupler's factor k or the gain of the EDF g. Optimizing the system parameters, a flat bandpass response with amplitude depth being more than 40dB is got at k1=0.5, k3=0.4, g=2, and a flat bandstop response is also obtained at k1=0.4,k3=0.5,g=2.

The multi-channel dispersion compensator by using chirped fiber Bragg gratings(CFBGs) has been one of the key technologies of high speed optical fiber communication system. The characteristics of reflection spectrum, time delay and dispersion of CFBGs with different connection forms are studied. By stress modulating and UV post-exposure, the uniform characteristics of the reflection spectrum of CFBGs are increased, and the influence of superposition effect caused by the parallel connection of CFBGs is decreased greatly. At the same time, the interference length is used to optimize the position of the cascaded CFBGs, and the cross talk can be decreased. By using the above optimized CFBGs connection forms,13 different wavelength CFBGs are cascaded in each dispersion compensator, and 20 CFBGs are parallel connected in each channel, a 13×10Gb/s 3100km ultra long G.652 fiber transmission system is successfully implemented without electric regenerator. The power penalty of the carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) code transmission system is only 2.5dB.

Signal processing is studied for Sagnac fiber distributed sensors. Wavelet denoising and wavelet decomposition are comparatively used to analyze signals in frequency domain to give smoothed frequency spectra, based on which null frequencies of the spectra are found more accurately. The analysis is helpful to more accurately locate the disturbance.
