Visual localization is a crucial problem in mobile robotics and autonomous driving. One solution is to retrieve images with known pose from a database for the localization of query images. However, in environments with drastically varying conditions (e.g. illumination changes, seasons, occlusion, dynamic objects), retrieval-based localization is severely hampered and becomes a challenging problem. In this paper, a novel domain-invariant feature learning method (DIFL) is proposed based on ComboGAN, a multi-domain image translation network architecture. By introducing a feature consistency loss (FCL) between the encoded features of the original image and translated image in another domain, we are able to train the encoders to generate domain-invariant features in a self-supervised manner. To retrieve a target image from the database, the query image is first encoded using the encoder belonging to the query domain to obtain a domain-invariant feature vector. We then preform retrieval by selecting the database image with the most similar domain-invariant feature vector. We validate the proposed approach on the CMU-Seasons dataset, where we outperform state-of-the-art learning-based descriptors in retrieval-based localization for high and medium precision scenarios. In order to enable redundant robot manipulators to safely cross constrained workspace entrances and complete end-effector tasks, a novel recurrent neural network based constrained workspace entrance crossing motion generation (CECMG) scheme is proposed and exploited. Specifically, the constrained workspace entrance safety crossing condition is modeled as an inequality type remote center of motion (RCM) constraint. By constraining the critical point of the manipulator within the predefined range of the RCM, the proposed scheme ensures that the redundant manipulator safely passes through the constrained workspace entrance. Then, a linear variational inequality-based primal-dual neural network is utilized to dynamically solve the proposed scheme and generate the motion sequence for the manipulator in real-time. Two validation experiments confirmed that the proposed CECMG scheme can be used for a robotic arm to cross into a constrained workspace entrance from different directions and complete end-effector tasks. In addition, comparative experiments validate that the proposed CECMG scheme addresses the limitations of the existing equation type RCM method that must be artificially placed in order to work behind the constrained workspace entrance. Physical experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness and implementability of the proposed CECMG scheme.

Multi-objective optimization problem (MOP) plays an increasingly important role in finance and engineering. In order to obtain more accurate and evenly distributed target solution set to a multi-objective programming, a novel swarm exploring neural dynamics (SEND) method is proposed, analyzed and applied in this paper. Specifically, a scalarization approach is firstly applied to transform the MOP into a group of subproblems. Secondly, each subproblem is solved by a varying parameter recurrent neural network (VP-RNN). By solving these problems, a group of Pareto optimal solutions are obtained. Thirdly, a population evolution weight optimization algorithm is used to diversify the solution set to obtain evenly distributed solutions. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SEND method can obtain a more accurate and evenly distributed solution set than some previous methods and the convergence rate is faster than the state-of-art methods, such as collaborative neurodynamic approach (CNA).

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) constitutes an essential and promising paradigm that relies programmable wireless environment and provides capability for space-intensive communications, due to the use of low-cost massive reflecting elements over the entire surfaces of man-made structures. However, accurate channel estimation is a fundamental technical prerequisite to achieve the huge performance gains from RIS. By leveraging the low rank structure of RIS channels, three practical residual neural networks, named convolutional blind denoising network, convolutional denoising generative adversarial networks and multiple residual dense network, are proposed to obtain accurate channel state information, which can reflect the impact of different methods on the estimation performance. Simulation results reveal the evolution direction of these three methods and reveal their superior performance compared with existing benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. In this paper, automatic motion control is investigated for wheeled inverted pendulum (WIP) models, which have been widely applied for modeling of a large range of two wheeled modern vehicles. First, the underactuated WIP model is decomposed into a fully actuated second-order subsystem Sigma(a) consisting of planar movement of vehicle forward motion and yaw angular motions, and a passive (nonactuated) first-order subsystem Sigma(b) of pendulum tilt motion. Due to the unknown dynamics of subsystem Sigma(a) and universal approximation ability of neural network (NN), an adaptive NN scheme has been employed for motion control of subsystem Sigma(a). Model reference approach has been used, whereas the reference model is optimized by finite time linear quadratic regulation technique. Inspired by human control strategy of inverted pendulum, the tilt angular motion in the passive subsystem Sigma(b) has been indirectly controlled using the dynamic coupling with planar forward motion of subsystem Sigma(a), such that the satisfactory tracking of set tilt angle can be guaranteed. Rigorous theoretic analysis has been established, and simulation studies have been performed to demonstrate the developed method.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Materials and methods 43 patients with intracranial micro-aneurysms were analyzed retrospectively, all patients had undergone angiography with both conventional 2D-DSA(Two-Dimensional Digital Subtraction Angiography) and rotational angiography with three-dimensional reconstruction; the frequency of detection of aneurysms, depiction of aneurysm neck, radiation dose, and the dosage of contrast agent were recorded respectively. Results 55 pieces of aneurysms were detected out from the 43 cases with intracranial micro-aneurysms by 3D-RA. But only 39 cases were detected out using 2D-DSA from the 55 samples, there were significant differences with regards to detection rate (P < 0.05). There were significant differences in radiation dose and dosage of contrast agent (P < 0.05) between the two methods of using 3D-RA can improve the detection rate of micro-aneurysms, which bestows obvious advantages on displaying the shape of aneurysms, the aneurysm neck at the best angle, and the relationship with the parent artery, at the same time, the amount of contrast agent and radiation dose are reduced in 3D-RA compared to 2D-DSA.

Chronic care manages long-term, progressive conditions, while acute care addresses short-term conditions. Chronic conditions increasingly strain health systems, which are often unprepared for these demands. This study examines the burden of conditions requiring acute versus chronic care, including sequelae. Conditions and sequelae from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019 were classified into acute or chronic care categories. Data were analysed by age, sex, and socio-demographic index, presenting total numbers and contributions to burden metrics such as Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), Years Lived with Disability (YLD), and Years of Life Lost (YLL). Approximately 68% of DALYs were attributed to chronic care, while 27% were due to acute care. Chronic care needs increased with age, representing 86% of YLDs and 71% of YLLs, and accounting for 93% of YLDs from sequelae. These findings highlight that chronic care needs far exceed acute care needs globally, necessitating health systems to adapt accordingly.

BackgroundHuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a public health priority in Latin America. While the burden of HIV is historically concentrated in urban areas and high-risk groups, subnational estimates that cover multiple countries and years are missing. This paucity is partially due to incomplete vital registration (VR) systems and statistical challenges related to estimating mortality rates in areas with low numbers of HIV deaths. In this analysis, we address this gap and provide novel estimates of the HIV mortality rate and the number of HIV deaths by age group, sex, and municipality in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, and *** performed an ecological study using VR data ranging from 2000 to 2017, dependent on individual country data availability. We modeled HIV mortality using a Bayesian spatially explicit mixed-effects regression model that incorporates prior information on VR completeness. We calibrated our results to the Global Burden of Disease Study *** countries displayed over a 40-fold difference in HIV mortality between municipalities with the highest and lowest age-standardized HIV mortality rate in the last year of study for men, and over a 20-fold difference for women. Despite decreases in national HIV mortality in all countries-apart from Ecuador-across the period of study, we found broad variation in relative changes in HIV mortality at the municipality level and increasing relative inequality over time in all countries. In all six countries included in this analysis, 50% or more HIV deaths were concentrated in fewer than 10% of municipalities in the latest year of study.
