Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) has been widely investigated due to its remarkable advantages on the achievable transmission distance and practical security. However, the relative low key generation rate limits its real-life implementations. In this work, we adopt the newly proposed four-intensity decoy-state scheme [Phys. Rev. A 93, 042324 (2016)] to study the performance of MDI-QKD with heralded single-photon sources (HSPS). Corresponding simulation results demonstrate that the four-intensity decoy-state scheme combining HSPS can drastically improve both the key generation rate and transmission distance in MDI-QKD, which may be very promising in future MDI-QKD systems.

—In this paper, we investigate the problem of minimizing the sum of energy cost and thermal discomfort cost in a long-term time horizon for a sustainable smart home with a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) load. Specifically, we first formulate a stochastic program to minimize the time average expected total cost with the consideration of uncertainties in electricity price, outdoor temperature, renewable generation output, electrical demand, the most comfortable temperature level, and home occupancy state. Then, we propose an online energy management algorithm based on the framework of Lyapunov optimization techniques without the need to predict any system parameters. The key idea of the proposed algorithm is to construct and stabilize four queues associated with indoor temperature, electric vehicle charging, and energy storage. Moreover, we theoretically analyze the feasibility and performance guarantee of the proposed algorithm. In this paper, we intend to reduce the operational cost of cloud data centers with the help of fog devices, which can avoid the revenue loss due to wide-area network propagation delay and save network bandwidth cost by serving nearby cloud users. Since fog devices may not be owned by a cloud service provider, they should be compensated for serving the requests of cloud users. When taking economical compensation into consideration, the optimal number of requests processed locally by each fog device should be decided. As a result, existing load balancing schemes developed for cloud data centers can not be applied directly and it is very necessary to redesign a cost-ware load balancing algorithm for the fog-cloud system. To achieve the above aim, we first formulate a fog-assisted operational cost minimization problem for the cloud service provider. Then, we design a parallel and distributed load balancing algorithm with low computational complexity based on Proximal Jacobian Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (PJ-ADMM). In this paper, we investigate the problem of minimizing the long-term total cost (i.e., the sum of energy cost and thermal discomfort cost) associated with a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system of a multizone commercial building under smart grid environment. To be specific, we first formulate a stochastic program to minimize the time average expected total cost with the consideration of uncertainties in electricity price, outdoor temperature, the most comfortable temperature level, and external thermal disturbance. Due to the existence of temporally and spatially coupled constraints as well as unknown information about the future system parameters, it is very challenging to solve the formulated problem. To this end, we propose a realtime HVAC control algorithm based on the framework of Lyapunov optimization techniques without the need to predict any system parameters and know their stochastic information. The key idea of the proposed algorithm is to construct and stabilize virtual queues associated with indoor temperatures of all zones. Moreover, we provide a distributed implementation of the proposed realtime algorithm with the aim of protecting user privacy and enhancing algorithmic scalability. Extensive simulation results based on real-world traces show that the proposed algorithm could reduce energy cost effectively with small sacrifice in thermal comfort. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Collective measurements on identically prepared quantum systems can extract more information than local measurements, thereby enhancing information-processing efficiency. Although this nonclassical phenomenon has been known for two decades, it has remained a challenging task to demonstrate the advantage of collective measurements in experiments. Here, we introduce a general recipe for performing deterministic collective measurements on two identically prepared qubits based on quantum walks. Using photonic quantum walks, we realize experimentally an optimized collective measurement with fidelity 0.9946 without post selection. As an application, we achieve the highest tomographic efficiency in qubit state tomography to date. Our work offers an effective recipe for beating the precision limit of local measurements in quantum state tomography and metrology. In addition, our study opens an avenue for harvesting the power of collective measurements in quantum information processing and for exploring the intriguing physics behind this power.

By applying the cloud manufacturing paradigm in the regional enterprise cluster, the enterprises or facilities may collaborate extensively for efficiently utilizing the manufacturing resources. It is valuable to explore and design the strategies of facilities selection for the autonomic control of the collaboration behaviors in production. In this paper, we model the collaboration relations in the regional enterprise cluster as a generalized social collaboration network and explore the dynamic growth process of the Facilities Collaboration network for different strategies of facilities selection, including the random selection with and without preference, and the balanced selection with and without preference. With performance indexes such as network size, the distribution of node degree and act degree, clustering coefficient, the average shortest distance, and the number of n-cliques, we present and analyze the characteristics of these strategies for cloud manufacturing. Next, based on these characteristics, we propose 2 mechanisms for self-optimization in facilities collaboration, including the dynamic weighing of facilities and the concentrated processing of successive subtasks in the process. We also analyze the mechanisms' effects on the characteristics of Facilities Collaboration network and the performance in manufacturing. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. In this work, we propose a novel beamforming design to enhance physical layer security of a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system with the aid of artificial noise (AN). The proposed design uses two scalars to balance the useful signal strength and interference at the strong and weak users, which is a generalized version of the existing beamforming designs in the context of physical layer security for NOMA. We determine the optimal power allocation among useful signals and AN together with the two optimal beamforming scalars in order to maximize the secrecy sum rate (SSR). Our asymptotic analysis in the high signal-to-noise ratio regime provides an efficient and near-optimal solution to optimizing the beamforming scalars and power allocation coefficients. Our analysis indicates that it is not optimal to form a beam towards either the strong user or the weak user in NOMA systems for security enhancement. In addition, the asymptotically optimal power allocation informs that, as the transmit power increases, more power should be allocated to the weak user or AN signals, while the power allocated to the strong user keeps constant. Wi-Fi has been widely deployed with the rapid development of wireless communication technique. Wi-Fi hotspots are popular in campus, making convenient wireless network access possible. However, during class teaching, in order to avoid students browsing the web based on Wi-Fi hotspots and distracting, we hope Wi-Fi hotspots adaptively shield network access to students in the classroom, while grant access to users outside the classroom. In this work, we prototype TA3C system, a teaching-oriented adaptive Wi-Fi authorized access control scheme, using Channel State Information (CSI) to locate instead of coarse-grained and temporally unstable Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). CSI can distinguish multipath signals, stay stable in the same propagation environment, and show different characteristics in different propagation environments, based on which, we can distinguish outdoor and indoor environments, and identify user's location to decide whether to offer him wireless network access or not. Experiment results show that TA3C effectively achieve adaptive Wi-Fi authorized access control, which provides a guarantee for the quality of class teaching. Compared to traditional indoor localization techniques, TA3C does not need accurate location information but simply recognizes user's location indoors or outdoors, which means it does not need dedicated hardware, realizing the low-cost indoor localization technique. © 2016 IEEE.

Quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) is the technology to transmit secret information directly through a quantum channel without neither key nor ciphertext. It provides us with a secure communication structure that is fundamentally different from the one that we use today. In this Letter, we report the first measurement-device-independent(MDI) QSDC protocol with sequences of entangled photon pairs and single photons. It eliminates security loopholes associated with the measurement device. In addition, the MDI technique doubles the communication distance compared to those without using the technique. We also give a protocol with linear optical Bell-basis measurement, where only two of the four Bell-basis states could be measured. When the number of qubit in a sequence reduces to 1, the MDI-QSDC protocol reduces to a deterministic MDI quantum key distribution protocol, which is also presented in the Letter. The low-rank matrix reconstruction (LRMR) approach is widely used in direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. As the rank norm penalty in an LRMR is NP-hard to compute, the nuclear norm (or the trace norm for a positive semidefinite (PSD) matrix) has been often employed as a convex relaxation of the rank norm. However, solving a nuclear norm convex problem may lead to a suboptimal solution of the original rank norm problem. In this paper, we propose to apply a family of nonconvex penalties on the singular values of the covariance matrix as the sparsity metrics to approximate the rank norm. In particular, we formulate a nonconvex minimization problem and solve it by using a locally convergent iterative reweighted strategy in order to enhance the sparsity and resolution. The problem in each iteration is convex and hence can be solved by using the optimization toolbox. Convergence analysis shows that the new method is able to obtain a suboptimal solution. The connection between the proposed method and the sparse signal reconstruction (SSR) is explored showing that our method can be regarded as a sparsity-based method with the number of sampling grids approaching infinity. Two feasible implementation algorithms that are based on solving a duality problem and deducing a closed-form solution of the simplified problem are also provided for the convex problem at each iteration to expedite the convergence.
