As named data networking (NDN) continues to evolve into a mature and production network, a robust and efficient congestion control mechanism has become a fundamental requirement for the success and wide deployment of NDN. In this paper, upon exploring the unique hop-by-hop Interest forwarding feature, based on the CUBIC, we develop a novel congestion control mechanism for NDN. Our congestion control mechanism, namely EC-CUBIC, borrows the core idea of CUBIC to control the sending rate of interest packets on consumers. Specially, in routers, we queue the data packets in every face and according to the queue length to send a congestion signal to consumers, upon which consumers take action timely for the congestion. In addition, we implement this mechanism in ndnSIM, an NS3-based simulator, and conduct a number of experiments with various settings to evaluate the link utilization and packets-drop rate of the proposed algorithm. Comparing with the naive congestion control algorithm in NDN, our experimental results demonstrate that EC-CUBIC perform bette in terms of high link utilization and low packets-drop rate.

The time-critical online contest environment calls for an elegant and precise management system to start a contest online. The management system should simultaneously follow three rules of security that are confidentiality, anonymity and fairness. We present in this paper a novel system named Secure Synchronized Reading (SSR) system as well as its corresponding security model according to the three rules. SSR can evoke a synchronized start for all competitors in a contest at the intended time by employing a Randomness-reused Identity-Based Encryption (RIBE) scheme. It can avoid huge differences among delivery delays of heterogeneous competitors and any false start by an adverse competitor. Consequently when an online contest begins, the SSR system performs quasi real-time with ignorable communication delays in the security model. As a complement, the analysis on the provable security of SSR is given finally, as well as a further analysis on the achievement of synchronization.

Forwarding strategy is the key feature of Named Data Networking (NDN) to realize dynamic, adaptive and intelligent forwarding, but work in this area is still at a very preliminary stage. In this paper, selecting which forwarding interface among multiple alternatives in NDN is defined as a multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problem and a maximizing deviation based probabilistic forwarding (MDPF) strategy is proposed to select forwarding interface on probability. Since multiple network metrics such as interface status, pending Interest numbers are considered together, each alternative interface's availability is obtained more accurately. Thus, better content delivery efficiency can be achieved. In addition, MDPF provides good extensibility, as any appropriate metric can be added to enhance or customize it. We implement the proposal in ndnSIM and compare it with BestRoute and PI-based strategies under various topologies and scenarios. Experimental results show that MDPF strategy is more responsive and sensitive to network changes, and can realize higher throughput, lower drop rate as well as better load balance.

To port the Linux distributions to a new Instruction Set Architecture (ISA), developers have to rebuild the software packages of the distributions. The complex dependencies of the software packages bring a great challenge. It is important to understand and properly handle the dependencies. We selected Fedora, a typical Linux distribution, and studied the dependencies within the software repositories of aarch64 and x86_64 architecture. We proposed a package dependency network framework to study the roles played by different packages. We obtained three network dependency patterns and proposed the corresponding division strategies which help developer build the source packages in parallel. Our study reveals that the key packages located at the root of multiple dependency chains significantly impact the division of the network, and their builds should be prioritized. Meanwhile, some packages with external dependencies can be temporarily masked to make a sub-network independent. Furthermore, the network dependency patterns are also observed in Fedora 33 riscv64 and OpenEuler riscv64. Our findings can help researchers have a better knowledge of Linux distribution dependency network and help practitioners conduct efficient package builds. © 2023 Knowledge Systems Institute Graduate School. With the rise of social networking in the web2.0 era, the Internet gradually evolves to be community-based [1]. The process of obtaining information via the Internet reflects certain social characteristics. In order to adapt recommendation technology to such changes, a trust-based recommendation algorithm is approached in this paper. The research is conducted in a practical application environment, a P2 P file-sharing system named Maze [2]. The algorithm is designed as follows: 1) digging download logs and friendship logs, 2) establishing trust-net social model. The empirical results show that the algorithm has improved recommendation quality significantly compared with the original content-based recommendation algorithm used in Maze.

This paper presents an efficient hardware prototype for network coding (NC). First, a packet synchronization mechanism is introduced to settle the problem of packet arriving mismatch between different incoming channels. Then a high-speed lookup-table-based circuit is designed to perform dot product over Galois Field, which forms the basic calculation unit of NC operation. Taking the speed advantage of FPGA hardware, this prototype is able to perform network coding operations within several hundred nanoseconds. Thus further studies and emulations on NC are able to be carried out upon this platform in the real network scenario.

Full virtualization is vastly applied in desktop virtualization. Although hardware-assisted virtualization greatly improves the performance, the interactive performance is still a bottleneck for full virtualization. Interactive performance is mainly influenced by I/O devices. In one hand, I/O devices are slow device. In another hand, they are often shared by multiple virtual machines through simulation. Our study focuses on the interactive performance optimization, and can mainly be classified into three categories: (1) Targeting multi-core system, we investigate virtual machine deployment to ensure stable performance of the whole system and individual virtual machine. (2) Dynamically adjust the resource among virtual machines based on the individual machine's interactive behavior. (3) Optimize the I/O request scheduler in term of the virtualization implementation. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Smart Mobile device are becoming popular platforms for information accessing, especially when coupled with recommendation system technologies. They are also treated as key tools for mobile users both for leisure and business applications. Recommendation techniques can increase the usability of mobile systems by providing more personalized and interested content. In this paper, a novel personalized recommender system is proposed, focusing on Mobile Terminal (MT) similarities, such as brands, versions and types of Operating Systems. These similarities play a key role in filtering original recommendation data sets at the preprocessing stage. By calculating and comparing the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) values through 5-fold cross validation of the Slope One algorithm with/without optimizing data sets by device-similarity, the overall effectiveness and accuracy of the recommendation results are at least 20% improved in our experiment.

Cache sharing among multiple computing units on chip is common in today's multi-core processors, and a lot of research has focused on the effective management of shared cache. A software management method called page coloring is commonly used to divide the cache among different applications competing for the same cache entries. Both static and dynamic cache partition mechanism have been implemented in operating system or user-space level. However, few efforts have been made under virtualization environments. Our previous work has provided a static cache partition method based on page coloring in Xen, following that, a dynamic cache partition mechanism called Colored Page Migration (CoPaM) is presented in this paper. © 2012 IEEE.

The method of network coding has been proven a promising solution to fanin conflict problems (traffic flows conflicting at input ports) in multicast switches in previous work. However, this approach is inefficient when applied to frame-based switches because of over-splitting with conventional algorithms. These algorithms do not support the benefits of network coding to be fully realized when ignoring the impact of fanout splitting. In this paper, we employ a self-defined weight for the Maximum Weight Matching (MWM) scheme for multicast switches. The corresponding scheduling algorithm avoids over-splitting to any traffic flow. The so-called Coding-Driven scheduling algorithm can remarkably decrease the minimum time slots required for scheduling, therefore improve the efficiency of network coding method in multicast switches as showed in the empirical results.
