Video rain/snow removal from surveillance videos is an important task in the computer vision community since rain/snow existed in videos can severely degenerate the performance of many surveillance system. Various methods have been investigated extensively, but most only consider consistent rain/snow under stable background scenes. Rain/snow captured from practical surveillance camera, however, is always highly dynamic in time with the background scene transformed occasionally. To this issue, this paper proposes a novel rain/snow removal approach, which fully considers dynamic statistics of both rain/snow and background scenes taken from a video sequence. Specifically, the rain/snow is encoded as an online multi-scale convolutional sparse coding (OMS-CSC) model, which not only finely delivers the sparse scattering and multi-scale shapes of real rain/snow, but also well encodes their temporally dynamic configurations by real-time ameliorated parameters in the model. Furthermore, a transformation operator imposed on the background scenes is further embedded into the proposed model, which finely conveys the dynamic background transformations, such as rotations, scalings and distortions, inevitably existed in a real video sequence. The approach so constructed can naturally better adapt to the dynamic rain/snow as well as background changes, and also suitable to deal with the streaming video attributed its online learning mode. The proposed model is formulated in a concise maximum a posterior (MAP) framework and is readily solved by the ADMM algorithm. Compared with the state-of-the-art online and offline video rain/snow removal methods, the proposed method achieves better performance on synthetic and real videos datasets both visually and quantitatively. Specifically, our method can be implemented in relatively high efficiency, showing its potential to real-time video rain/snow removal. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Low SAR, Small size, High gain, Circularly polarized Antenna for Wearable Application

A planar, small size, high gain, low specific absorption rate (SAR) and circularly-polarized (CP) wearable antenna is proposed in this paper. The antenna is fabricated on a substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.5 with a thickness of 0.5 mm and sized at 42×42 mm only. Both the simulation results show that the overlap bandwidth of impedance and axial ratio of the proposed antenna is 13.7% (5.15-5.91 GHz). To isolate the antenna against the influence of the human body, a artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) plane is added on the reverse side of the radiator. The AMC structure effectively isolates the human body from the radiation of the antenna and reduces the specific absorption rate (SAR) of it by more than 96.1% at 5.5 GHz, which improves the antenna gain and the peak gain reaches 5.09 dBi at 5.5 GHz. The wearable performance of the antenna was analyzed, and it is observed that it can sustain good performance even under human body loading. Beside, the antenna has a small size, which makes it ideal for wearable applications.

VIPLFaceNet： an open source deep face recognition SDK

Robust face representation is imperative to highly accurate face recognition. In this work, we propose an open source face recognition method with deep representation named as VIPLFaceNet, which is a lO-layer deep convolu- tional neural network with seven convolutional layers and three fully-connected layers. Compared with the well-known AlexNet, our VIPLFaceNet takes only 20% training time and 60% testing time, but achieves 40% drop in error rate on the real-world face recognition benchmark LFW. Our VIPLFaceNet achieves 98.60% mean accuracy on LFW us- ing one single network. An open-source C＋＋ SDK based on VIPLFaceNet is released under BSD license. The SDK takes about 150ms to process one face image in a single thread on an i7 desktop CPU. VIPLFaceNet provides a state-of-the-art start point for both academic and industrial face recognition applications.

To the Editor:Since 1027,when the Tian Sheng Bronze Statue showing acupoints and meridians was first introduced for medical practitioners,it has evolved to the currently used acupoints and meridians atlas in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).[1]To date,the acupoints represent defined areas on the body surface relative to certain *** acupoints in the extremity endings would connect anatomically with diverse associated visceral organs or tissues,forming a Meridian and Collateral *** on the atlas,each main meridian is usually a virtual line connecting a group of adjacent acupoints that correlate with certain visceral *** modern medical science,the anatomical structures of main meridians remain largely unclarified.

iSplit LBI: Individualized partial ranking with ties via split LBI

Due to the inherent uncertainty of data, the problem of predicting partial ranking from pairwise comparison data with ties has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, in real-world scenarios, different individuals often hold distinct preferences. It might be misleading to merely look at a global partial ranking while ignoring personal diversity. In this paper, instead of learning a global ranking which is agreed with the consensus, we pursue the tie-aware partial ranking from an individualized perspective. Particularly, we formulate a unified framework which not only can be used for individualized partial ranking prediction, but also be helpful for abnormal user selection. This is realized by a variable splitting-based algorithm called iSplitLBI. Specifically, our algorithm generates a sequence of estimations with a regularization path, where both the hyperparameters and model parameters are updated. At each step of the path, the parameters can be decomposed into three orthogonal parts, namely, abnormal signals, personalized signals and random noise. The abnormal signals can serve the purpose of abnormal user selection, while the abnormal signals and personalized signals together are mainly responsible for individual partial ranking prediction. Extensive experiments on simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate that our new approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives. In this paper, we propose a method to improve localization algorithm of maximum likelihood estimation;the localization scheme relies on the distance threshold. In order to suppress effectively the effects of received signal strength error to node localization precision. This paper presents an indoor localization algorithm based on received signal strength to select anchor nodes. Compared with the traditional localization algorithm, this scenario not only improve the localization accuracy, but also reduce the calculation complexity of nodes. The simulation results show that the average error of the proposed method is less than 0.15 m. Moreover, when there are a large number of anchor nodes, the computational complexity is effectively reduced. Verification result verifies the effectiveness and reliability of the algorithm.

The traditional double-threshold endpoint detection method has the phenomenon of missing detection. Therefore, the speech recognition(SR) system based on vector quantization(VQ) in this paper proposes an improved algorithm for this phenomenon, which effectively avoids the problem of missing detection. Then, Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients(MFCC) is used to extract the characteristic parameters of the speech signal, and the multistage vector quantization is used to quantify the characteristic parameters. Experimental results show that, the proposed algorithm improves the recognition rate of the text-independent speaker recognition system by 8.7%, and it also confirms that the longer the training speech is, the higher the recognition rate will be.

The prediction of precise protein-ligand binding activities can accelerate drug discovery by virtual screening-a computational technique that predicts whether a small molecule ligand is able to bind to a specific target. Thus, it is crucial to improve the performance of virtual screening. However, previous models for solving this problem are either ligand-based or structure-based. In this paper, we propose a universal deep neural network model called DeepDock that predicts protein-ligand interaction by using both ligand and structure information. Using the combination of two types of information, our model consists of embedding, convolution, max pooling, and fully-connected layers. In particular, different types of inputs are concatenated before being fed into the fully-connected layers. In the experiments, we compare our approach to the competing methods against two benchmark datasets under different settings. The experiment results have demonstrated that DeepDock can improve predictive performance by more than 4% on both DUD-E and MUV datasets in terms of AUPR.

An insight into acupoints and meridians in human body based on interstitial fluid circulation

The atlas of human acupoints and meridians has been utilized in clinical practice for almost a millennium although the anatomical structures and functions remain to be clarified. It has recently been reported that a long-distance interstitial fluid (ISF) circulatory pathway may originate from the acupoints in the extremities. As observed in living human subjects, cadavers and animals using magnetic resonance imaging and fluorescent tracers, the ISF flow pathways include at least 4 types of anatomical structures: the cutaneous-, perivenous-, periarterial-, and neural-pathways. Unlike the blood or lymphatic vessels, these ISF flow pathways are composed of highly ordered and topologically connected interstitial fibrous connective tissues that may work as guiderails for the ISF to flow actively over long distance under certain driving forces. Our experimental results demonstrated that most acupoints in the extremity endings connect with one or more ISF flow pathways and comprise a complex network of acupoint-ISF-pathways. We also found that this acupoint-ISF-pathway network can connect to visceral organs or tissues such as the pericardium and epicardium, even though the topographical geometry in human extremities does not totally match the meridian lines on the atlas that is currently used in traditional Chinese medicine. Based on our experimental data, the following working hypotheses are proposed: 1, there are one or more ISF flow pathways, including at least one cutaneous pathway, originated from an acupoint on the body surface. 2, the acupoints on the body surface specifically connect with certain visceral organs or tissues via ISF flow. And 3, the acupoint-originated ISF pathways constitute a complex connective network and can modulate the ISF and bio-signals in the microenvironments around cells in certain visceral organs or tissues from body surfaces. The mobile robot adapts to the more complicated indoor and outdoor environments, and can expand its scope of application. In order to reduce the influence of the cumulative error caused by navigation in complex environments, the indoor mobile robot that combines Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and encoder fusion is designed and implemented. In view of the limitations of the traditional single lidar scheme, a Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is proposed to achieve indoor map construction, path planning, multi-point navigation and other functions, and a MSIF KartoSLAM (Multi-sensor information Fusion) algorithm is proposed, which combines the KartoSLAM algorithm and Multi-sensor information to achieve map construction in complex environments. Through comprehensive testing in the indoor environment, the results show that the Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is superior to the traditional single lidar scheme, and can achieve higher accuracy in mapping and navigation. At the same time, the robot platform can also be combined with the Internet of Things technology and integrated into intelligent housing system.
