In this paper, we first construct a one-round Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol based on Ring-LWE. The security of our construction is based on the hardness of the Ring-LWE problem. Second, we adaptively extend our construction from Ring-LWE to LWE. Finally, we efficiently implement our key exchange protocols based on Ring-LWE and LWE. © Zhi-Min et al.

Hadoop/MapReduce has emerged as a de facto programming framework to explore cloud-computing resources. Hadoop has many configuration parameters, some of which are crucial to the performance of MapReduce jobs. In practice, these parameters are usually set to default or inappropriate values. This severely limits system performance (e.g., execution time). Therefore, it is essential but also challenging to investigate how to automatically tune these parameters to optimize MapReduce job performance. In this paper, we propose an automatic MapReduce configuration optimization framework named as MR-COF. By monitoring and analyzing the runtime behavior, the framework adopts a cost-based performance prediction model that predicts the MapReduce job performance. In addition, we design a genetic search algorithm which iteratively tunes parameters in order to find out the best one. Testbed-based experimental results show that the average MapReduce job performance is increased by 35% with MR-COF compared to the default configuration. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

We have developed a workflow that robustly identifies intact glycopeptides at a proteome scale using stepped-energy mass-spectrometry. This workflow has decoded as a computational strategy called as pGlyco+, a dedicated search engine for glycopeptide analysis. Our high-throughput method has enable us to interpret a total of 5,564 distinct site-specific N-glycoforms, on 1,478 glycosylation sites of relative 809 glycoproteins from five mouse tissues, and in 20 hours of mass-spectrometry analysis. Strict quality control(1% false discovery rate) was performed not only for the peptide matches but novel for glycan ones as well. We have also compared our search engine with a routinely used glycoproteomic software and believed that our method is a rather robust tool for site-specific glycosylation study likely. To demonstrate the importance of comprehensive quality control for both the glycan and peptide matches, we have conducted a fair performance comparison between pGlyco+ and Byonic, a routinely used glycoproteomic software: exactly same MS/MS data, and parameters such as tolerance, databases of protein and glycan were used. Under 1% FDR, pGlyco+ identified 23,086 glycopeptide spectra, while Byonic only identified 8,866 glycopeptide spectra. The corresponding number of identified distinct glycopeptides were 5,430 for pGlyco+ and 2,206 for Byoinc. To reach the same sensitivity of pGlyco+(23,086 identified spectra under 1% FDR), Byonic would have unacceptably 30% FDR using the same criteria.

Data is in a very important position for pattern recognition tasks including eye gaze estimation. In the literature, most researchers used normal face datasets, which are not specifically designed for eye gaze estimation. As a result, it is difficult to obtain fine labeled eye gaze direction. Therefore large datasets with well-defined gaze directions are desired. To facilitate related researches, we collect and establish the Oulu Multi-pose Eye Gaze Dataset. Inspired by the psychological observation that gaze direction is intrinsically linked with the head orientation, we are devoted to a new data set of eye gaze images captured under multiple head poses. It finally results in a dataset containing over 40K images from 50 subjects, who were asked to fixate on 10 special points on screen under different poses respectively. We investigate a new eye gaze estimation approach by using the IGO based description, and compare it with other popular eye gaze estimation approaches to provide the baseline results on our dataset. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Guaranteing the quality of face object in video call is the key task for video coding systems under the constrained bandwidth of network. Conventionally, the face object is divided into disperse blocks under the hybrid coding framework. Therefore, the characteristics of the complete face object have not been fully used. Meanwhile, it is difficult to predict the complex affine transformations such as rotation and scaling of the face object in neighboring frames based on the current translation motion model. In this paper, we propose an improved video coding scheme for video call. The complex transformation of complete face object is used to improve the compression effect. Experimental results show that our proposed method has better performance compared with HM12.0, the bits rate saving of face region is up to 19.59% under the similar visual quality. Plenoptic cameras capture the light field in a scene with a single shot and produce lenselet images. From a lenselet image, light field can be reconstructed, with which we can render images with different viewpoints and focal length. Because of large volume data, high efficient image compression scheme for storage and transmission is urgent. Containing 4D light field information, lenselet images have much more redundant information than traditional 2D images. In this paper, we propose a subaperture images streaming scheme to compress lenselet images, in which rotation scan mapping is adopted to further improve compression efficiency. The experiment results show our approach can efficient compress the redundancy in lenselet images and outperform traditional image compression method.

As smart phones with GPS become popular, more and more textual documents with geographical locations are published on the Web. keyword-based location services like vehicle navigation, tour planning, nearby object querying, and location pattern discovering of spatial objects are becoming popular and important. However, processing both text and geographical locations brings more challenges to information-retrieval techniques. In this paper, we focus on the problem of finding textual topics of clusters containing spatial objects with text descriptions. The key is how to combine clustering techniques with topic-retrieval models to integrate both geo-location information and text information. We investigated methods that combine clustering methods with the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model to discover topics of clusters of documents with geo-locations. Six different methods of combination are investigated, each having outputs with different meanings, which can be further leveraged to answer different types of queries over spatial documents. Experiments are conducted on both synthetic and real data. The results show that the combination of the probabilistic topic model with clustering algorithms is an efficient and effective way to discover meaningful clusters in different facets and levels of documents with textual and geographical information. © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper, a sparse coding based framework is proposed for sign language recognition (SLR), especially for the signer-independent case. To deal with the inter-signer variation, a dictionary capturing the common features among different signers is learnt by considering the semantic constraint. Thus for a given sign from an unknown signer, the sparse representation, which maintains more information of this specific sign class while neglecting the identity information as much as possible, can be generated. In our implementation, each sign is partitioned into a fixed number of fragments and the features fusing hand shape and moving trajectory are extracted from the fragments. The dictionary learnt from the training fragments can be taken as the basic subunits of signs and each fragment of sign video can be coded by these basis vectors. Finally, the recognition result is achieved through SVM with the concatenated sparse coding features of the fragments. The experiments and comparisons show that our method is more effective for the signer-independent recognition problem than other baseline methods. At the same time, it also performs well for the signer-dependent case.

In recent years, next-generation sequencing technologies have been widely used, and are rapidly changing the landscape of genetics with unimaginable speed. However, the preliminary quality control regulations including trimming adaptor sequences, quality statistics, and depth and coverage statistics need to be applied to raw reads before further analysis. QACtools implements various utilities for processing raw reads in the FASTQ format and alignments in the BAM *** analyzes some relevant properties of next-generation sequencing data such as average read length, base quality scores, and so on. Additionally, to our knowledge,none of the other tools support depth and coverage statistic that have been provided in our tool for analysis of large DNA sequencing data. It is crucial for overcoming errors in base calling and assembly. We suppose tool is useful for the quality control of NGS data to perform further analysis.
