An Internet of Energy Things Based on Wireless LPWAN

Under intense environmental pressure, the global energy sector is promoting the integration of renewable energy into interconnected energy systems. The demand-side management （DSM） of energy systems has drawn considerable industrial and academic attention in attempts to form new flexibilities to respond to variations in renewable energy inputs to the system. However, many DSM concepts are still in the experimental demonstration phase. One of the obstacles to DSM usage is that the current information infrastructure was mainly designed for centralized systems, and does not meet DSM requirements. To overcome this barrier, this paper proposes a novel information infrastructure named the lnternet of Energy Things （IoET） in order to make DSM practicable by basing it on the latest wireless communication technology： the low-power wide-area network （LPWAN）. The primary advantage of LPWAN over general packet radio service （GPRS） and area Internet of Things （loT） is its wide-area coverage, which comes with minimum power consumption and maintenance costs. Against this background, this paper briefly reviews the representative LPWAN tech- nologies of narrow-band Internet of Things （NB-IoT） and Long Range （LORa） technology, and compares them with GPRS and area IoT technology. Next, a wireless-to-cloud architecture is proposed for the IoET, based on the main technical features of LPWAN. Finally, this paper looks forward to the potential of IoET in various DSM application scenarios.

The distribution network detection devices are generally using two kinds of instrument current transformer (ICT), of which one is used to transform the travelling wave and transient signals, while the other is used to transform the power frequency signals. Such scheme is neither necessary nor economical. This paper analyses the influences of sampling resistance, stray capacitance and magnetizing inductance on the frequency characteristic of ICT. Considering that fault zero sequence transient current has big transient component and small power frequency component, an ICT with wide band frequency accuracy has been chosen. Practical experiments have been done. The technical parameters given by the instrument factory are only within 20-20kHz. The characteristics in higher frequency are seldom reported due to the lack of test means. The experiments in this paper is based on the transient tester instrument and current amplifiers developed by our laboratory, which can output wide frequency band current within 20Hz-100kHz up to 50A. Experiment shows that, the predicted results were in good agreement with the measured ones.

The signal of travelling wave has the merit of immunity to system oscillation, transition resistance, CT saturation and the neutral point operation modes;it has been widely applied in field of fault detection and protection. Especially in isolated neutral grounded wind farm distribution network, the algorithm using multiple-bay travelling wave's information can exclusively achieve the fast fault feeder selection and tripping. However, travelling wave sampling frequency tends to reach 500 to 1000 times of that in algorithms with power frequency signal. The direct of travelling wave sampling data sharing in process bus would produce the communication block, and weaken the security of whole substation automation. To solve this problem, the performance of communication in process bus is theoretically analyzed and simulated in this paper, the communication requirement of travelling waves is quantified, and then a feasible scheme is proposed with data pre-processing and fault characteristic abstraction moving forward into the merging unit. simulations prove its validity. The work in paper can promote the wide application of travelling waves in substation based on IEC61850.

With the increase of wind power penetration,the characteristics of the wind farm have brought a significant impact on the security of power *** is urgent to study how to reduce the risk of cascading failures while improving the environmental *** this paper,a cascading failure model containing wind farm is proposed,which considers wind power characteristics,such as the structure of wind farm,the randomness of power of wind farm,the virtual inertia control of wind turbine,and the disconnection response of wind turbine after short-circuit *** order to identify the key factors of blackout,decision tree is used to analyze results generated from this blackout *** control is adopted to decrease the probability or effect of critical attributes that can be found in decision *** blackout risk of IEEE 30 test system integrated with wind farm is *** key factors,such as disconnection of wind turbines from the grid and certain transmission lines,are identified by decision ***,the effectiveness of the virtual inertial control of wind turbine,reactive power compensation and line construction is verified by simulation.

High impedance faults (HIFs) are easy to occur in collective feeders in wind farms and may cause the cascading of wind generators tripping. This kind of faults is difficult to be detected by traditional relay or fuse due to the limited fault current values and the situation is worse in wind farms. The mostly adopted HIF detection algorithms are based on the 3rd harmonic characteristic of the fault zero-sequence currents, whereas these 3rd harmonics are very easy to be polluted by wind power back-to-back converters. To solve this problem, the typical HIF arc flash based on Mayr's arc model is first built, and the typical fault waveforms of HIF in wind farm are presented. Then the characteristics of high impedance faults are analysed to distinguish the occurrence of HIF from other harmonic interference. After that, the performance of the traditional harmonic based HIF detection algorithm is discussed, and a novel detection algorithm is presented to prevent harmonic interference influence in wind farms.

Due to the three-phase-to-three-leg direct matrix converter (3 × 3 MC) cannot be achieved with unbalanced load, then the three-phase-to-four-leg direct matrix converter (3 × 4 MC) is introduced. A novel modulation strategy is proposed to ensure the capability of 3 × 4 MC with arbitrary loads, which is development by using fixed voltage vectors and one zero vector. Considering the harm of common-mode voltage (CMV), the switch configurations of the proposed modulation strategy are improved. Selecting the reasonable zero vectors by the subsection partition, which is capable of reducing the CMV to half of the input source voltage produced by the zero vectors, and the ability of 3 × 4 MC with arbitrary load is also realized. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is verified by the accompanying simulation results. © 2017 IEEE.

The reflection coefficient of the travelling wave is different with different frequencies because of the inductance and capacitive elements on the boundary of the DC transmission line, which leads to the oscillation of the travelling wave. It is difficult to obtain the wave head's arrival time accurately using travelling wave method to locate fault because of the oscillation. The current travelling wave is the superposition of the incident current travelling wave and the reflected current travelling wave. There is no oscillation in the incident wave. Therefore, a method using incident current wave for fault location is proposed here. The initial current travelling wave and the transmission line boundary function are used to calculate the incident current travelling wave, and the incident wave is used to locate fault. The Prony decomposition algorithm is used to identify boundary function using the initial current travelling wave generated in specific fault condition. PSCAD simulation shows that the influence of oscillations of travelling wave can be eliminated by using incident current wave to locate faults, and the accuracy of fault location is improved. © Institution of Engineering and Technology. 55GW distributed photovoltaic have been installed in China, but nearly half are connected to the low voltage level of 380V, without real-time power data acquisition. The sequential power data is needed to be reconstructed based on some related monitoring data. Current researches focus on outliers recovery, but not reconstruction from none. This paper explores the temporal and spatial correlation of power between adjacent centralized photovoltaic stations and proposes a large-scale missing power data reconstructing method based on the time-delay power correlation, the spatial geometric characteristics of stations and the thought of ensemble learning. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulation based on the real photovoltaic power data. The proposed method can get the better effect of data reconstructing compared with the traditional method, which only use the power curves of the nearest CP station to reconstruct the power curves of the DP station according the capacity conversion. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Impedance method and single terminal travelling wave method are analyzed in paper, applicable scope of optimized solution is presented. Impedance method is of high robustness but low accuracy. Single terminal travelling wave method offers high accuracy but poor robustness. Optimized solution combines these two methods together, takes advantages of both methods. It is a great enhancement to single terminal fault location. This paper analyzed theoretical basis of optimized solution, proposed the calculation algorithm of fault location range using impedance method. Analyses of impedance method and single terminal travelling wave method show that the optimized solution is suitable for engineering application. Error analysis is proved correct by simulation. © 2011 IEEE.
