An enhanced genetic algorithm for computation task offloading in MEC scenario

The explosive growth of Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G communication technologies has driven the increasing computing demands for wireless devices. Mobile edge computing in the 5G scenario is a promising solution for energy-efficient and low latency applications. However, due to limited bandwidth, the selection of appropriate computing tasks greatly affects the user experience and system performance. Under the wireless bandwidth constraint, the reasonable choice of offloading objects is an NP-hard problem. The genetic algorithm has a great ability to solve this problem, but the performance of the algorithm varies with different scenarios. This paper proposes a task offloading strategy based on an enhanced genetic algorithm for small-scale computing tasks with an ultra-dense terminal distribution. Numerical experiments show that the convergence speed and optimisation effect of the enhanced genetic algorithm are significantly improved compared to the conventional genetic algorithm. © 2023 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

EvoChart: A Benchmark and a Self-Training Approach Towards Real-World Chart Understanding

Chart understanding enables automated data analysis for humans, which requires models to achieve highly accurate visual comprehension. While existing Visual Language Models (VLMs) have shown progress in chart understanding, the lack of high-quality training data and comprehensive evaluation benchmarks hinders VLM chart comprehension. In this paper, we introduce EvoChart, a novel self-training method for generating synthetic chart data to enhance VLMs’ capabilities in real-world chart comprehension. We also propose EvoChart-QA, a noval benchmark for measuring models’ chart comprehension abilities in real-world scenarios. Specifically, EvoChart is a unique self-training data synthesis approach that simultaneously produces high-quality training corpus and a high-performance chart understanding model. EvoChart-QA consists of 650 distinct real-world charts collected from 140 different websites and 1,250 expert-curated questions that focus on chart understanding. Experimental results on various open-source and proprietary VLMs tested on EvoChart-QA demonstrate that even the best proprietary model, GPT-4o, achieves only 49.8% accuracy. Moreover, the EvoChart method significantly boosts the performance of open-source VLMs on real-world chart understanding tasks, achieving 54.2% accuracy on EvoChart-QA. © 2024, CC BY.

With the continuous development of education, online education is becoming more and more popular with learners because of its convenience. However, online education has the problem of insufficient interaction with students. Students still need to rely on the students themselves to judge the lack of knowledge in practice tasks, which will greatly affect the learning efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method based on formal concept analysis to analyze the knowledge that may not be mastered, and a method of intensive practice for students. First of all, establishing the formal context of student error test questions, construct the concept lattice to calculate the degree of importance of the knowledge concept that may not be mastered, judge the student's mastery of the knowledge concept, and give feedback. Secondly, construct the concept lattice of the unpractised test set, and calculate the similarity of the concept extension set that meets the threshold, find similar topics and push them, and realize targeted training for students who have not mastered the knowledge concepts. © 2022 SPIE.

Active disturbance-rejection methods are effective in estimating and rejecting disturbances in both transient and steady-state *** paper presents a deep observation on and a comparison between two of those methods:the generalized extended-state observer(GESO)and the equivalent input disturbance(EID)from assumptions,system configurations,stability conditions,system design,disturbance-rejection performance,and extensibility.A time-domain index is introduced to assess the disturbance-rejection performance.A detailed observation of disturbance-suppression mechanisms reveals the superiority of the EID approach over the GESO method.A comparison between these two methods shows that assumptions on disturbances are more practical and the adjustment of disturbance-rejection performance is easier for the EID approach than for the GESO method.

Diagnosis of compound faults remains a challenge during fault diagnosis of bearings, owing to the different fault parameters coupling, fault characteristics diversity, and the exponential increasement of the number of possible failure modes. Current compound faults diagnostic methods, which are usually based on supervised or semi-supervised learning, require sufficient labeled or unlabeled training data for each compound faults. In industrial scenarios, neither labeled nor unlabeled training data of compound faults are usually difficult to collect and sometimes even inaccessible, whereas single faults samples are easy to obtain. Based on these issues, we construct a novel generative zero-shot learning (ZSL) compound faults diagnosis model identifies unseen compound faults using only single faults samples as training set. This model comprises several modules, namely semantic vector definition, feature extractor, generative adversarial modules. Firstly, we devise a unified semantic vector definition method for expressing single and compound faults based on theoretical correlation of characteristics between single fault and compound faults vibration data. Secondly, a CNN-based feature extractor is designed for extraction the fault features from the time-frequency domain of vibration data. Thirdly, a generative adversarial module performs adversarial training of semantic vectors and fault features of single faults to learn the mapping relationship between the fault features and the fault semantic vectors. Once trained, the generator is able to generate compound fault features using the compound fault semantic vectors, rather than any compound fault samples. Finally, the K-nearest neighbor method is adopted to identify the unseen compound faults by measuring the distance between the extracted feature from the testing compound fault samples and the generated features. Blockchain is a viable solution to provide data integrity for the enormous volume of 5G IoT social data, while we need to break through the throughput bottleneck of blockchain. Sharding is a promising technology to solve the problem of low throughput in blockchains. However, cross-shard communication hinders the effective improvement of blockchain throughput. Therefore, it is critical to reasonably allocate transactions to different shards to improve blockchain throughput. Existing research on blockchain sharding mainly focuses on shards formation, configuration, and consensus, while ignoring the negative impact of cross-shard communication on blockchain throughput. Aiming to maximize the throughput of transaction processing, we study how to allocate blockchain transactions to shards in this paper. We propose an Associated Transaction assignment algorithm based on Closest Fit (ATCF). ATCF classifies associated transactions into transaction groups which are then assigned to different shards in the non-ascending order of transaction group sizes periodically. Within each epoch, ATCF tries to select a shard that can handle all the transactions for each transaction group. If there are multiple such shards, ATCF selects the shard with the remaining processing capacity closest to the number of transactions in the transaction group. When no such shard exists, ATCF chooses the shard with the largest remaining processing capacity for the transaction group. The transaction groups that cannot be completely processed within the current epoch will be allocated in the subsequent epochs. We prove that ATCF is a 2-approximation algorithm for the associated transaction assignment problem. Simulation results show that ATCF can effectively improve the blockchain throughput and reduce the number of cross-shard transactions.

knowledge Graph (KG) is a directed heterogeneous information network that contains a large number of entities and relations, which is widely used as effective side information in rec-ommender systems. Moreover, in recommender systems, the Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) model is introduced to mine the relatedness between entities in a KG because of its efficiency in extracting spatial features on topological graphs. The knowledge Graph Convolutional Network (KGCN) model up-dates the embedding of a currently positioned entity by aggregating the information of adjacent entities selected randomly. Never-theless, it has two limititations: 1) the information of neighbors se-lected randomly cannot accurately represent the current entity in the KG;2) the model is hard to converge as graph features (i.e. The spatial relation features and semantic information features of en-tities in the KG) grow. To solve these limitations, in this paper, a meta-path (i.e., a sequence of artificially constructed relationships) is introduced into the selection of neighbors in the KGCN model to enhance the representation of each entity. Furthermore, two construction methods of the meta-path - constructing a meta-path based on the same relation (KGCN-SP) and the characteris-tics of KG (KGCN-MP) -are proposed. The experiments based on three real-world datasets demonstrate that the neighbor selection based on the meta-path is able to collect more accurate infor-mation from a KG and improve the recommendation performance effectively. © 2021 IEEE.

Large Language Model for Table Processing: A Survey

Tables, typically two-dimensional and structured to store large amounts of data, are essential in daily activities like database queries, spreadsheet manipulations, web table question answering, and image table information extraction. Automating these table-centric tasks with Large Language Models (LLMs) or Visual Language Models (VLMs) offers significant public benefits, garnering interest from academia and industry. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of table-related tasks, examining both user scenarios and technical aspects. It covers traditional tasks like table question answering as well as emerging fields such as spreadsheet manipulation and table data analysis. We summarize the training techniques for LLMs and VLMs tailored for table processing. Additionally, we discuss prompt engineering, particularly the use of LLM-powered agents, for various table-related tasks. Finally, we highlight several challenges, including diverse user input when serving and slow thinking using chain-of-thought. © 2024, CC BY.

Zero Watermarking Algorithm for Medical Image Based on Resnet50-DCT

Medical images are used as a diagnostic tool, so protecting theirconfidentiality has long been a topic of study. From this, we propose aResnet50-DCT-based zero watermarking algorithm for use with medicalimages. To begin, we use Resnet50, a pre-training network, to draw out thedeep features of medical images. Then the deep features are transformedby DCT transform and the perceptual hash function is used to generatethe feature vector. The original watermark is chaotic scrambled to get theencrypted watermark, and the watermark information is embedded into theoriginal medical image by XOR operation, and the logical key vector isobtained and saved at the same time. Similarly, the same feature extractionmethod is used to extract the deep features of the medical image to be testedand generate the feature vector. Later, the XOR operation is carried outbetween the feature vector and the logical key vector, and the encryptedwatermark is extracted and decrypted to get the restored watermark;thenormalized correlation coefficient (NC) of the original watermark and therestored watermark is calculated to determine the ownership and watermarkinformation of the medical image to be tested. After calculation, most ofthe NC values are greater than 0.50. The experimental results demonstratethe algorithm’s robustness, invisibility, and security, as well as its ability toaccurately extract watermark information. The algorithm also shows goodresistance to conventional attacks and geometric attacks.
