Event detection, aiming to detect whether a sentence contains the type of events of interest, is one of the important tasks in information Extraction. There exist many methods for event detection, which usually treat event detection as a classification problem. These existing methods suffer from the imbalanced training data of different event types. To relieve this problem, this paper proposes a new Type-Representation-Enhanced Event Detection (TREED) method, which introduce hierarchical event type representations to enhance classification accuracy. Specifically, TREED first models the hierarchical relationship among event types in the dataset;Next, upon interactions between the representations of trigger words and event types, it obtains the new representations of trigger words integrating event type information. Finally, TREED classifies the events based on the obtained more accurate trigger word representations. Experimental results on a commonly used benchmark dataset, ACE-2005, demonstrate that the proposed model can improve both accuracy and recall of the event detection task. © 2023 IEEE.

AAV-Assisted Joint Mobile Edge Computing and data Collection via Matching-Enabled Deep Reinforcement Learning

Autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) and data collection (DC) have been popular research issues. Different from existing works that consider MEC and DC scenarios separately, this article investigates a multi-AAV-assisted joint MEC-DC system. Specifically, we formulate a joint optimization problem to minimize the MEC latency and maximize the collected data volume. This problem can be classified as a nonconvex mixed integer programming problem that exhibits long-term optimization and dynamics. Thus, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach that jointly optimizes the AAV movement, user transmit power, and user association in real time to solve the problem efficiently. Specifically, we reformulate the optimization problem into an action space-reduced Markov decision process (MDP) and optimize the user association by using a two-phase matching-based association (TMA) strategy. Subsequently, we propose a soft actor-critic (SAC)-based approach that integrates the proposed TMA strategy (SAC-TMA) to solve the formulated joint optimization problem collaboratively. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SAC-TMA is able to coordinate the two subsystems and can effectively reduce the system latency and improve the DC volume compared with other benchmark algorithms.

Eye tracking technology can show how people focus their attention and emotionally react to their surroundings. In this study, wearable eye tracker was used to conduct eye movement experiments in realistic environment. For signal processing of the data, a finite impulse response (FIR) filter was chosen, and an eye movement data set was created. First, 26 features were chosen by a machine learning algorithm for emotion recognition, and the average rate of recognition on GDBT was 71.1%. 22 noteworthy correlation features were chosen after Spearman and emotion state were used for correlation analysis. GDBT has a recognition rate of 74.61%, while XGBoost has a recognition rate of 75.63%. The experimental results prove the validity of our data set and provide data support for the next research. © 2023 SPIE.

With the rapid development of computer technology and Internet technology, the information age has come. The combination of computer technology and sports is one of the most popular research fields. This paper mainly completes the construction of football player number dataset and identification of football players through the jersey number. Firstly, the dataset is constructed based on player detection and number region detection. Then in the player identification task, we uses part of the backbone network of YOLOv5 model as the feature extraction module of the player identification network. Moreover, SPD-Conv module is added to improve the network recognition performance under the condition of small size target and low resolution. A series of experiments were also done to verify the performance of our proposed model. Finally, the recognition accuracy of our proposed model reached 92.75%. © 2023 SPIE.

The remaining useful life (RUL) of bearings is critical to the proper operation of mechanical equipment, maintenance of equipment costs and availability. The existing domain adaptation methods have had great success in RUL prediction. However, when the target bearing data are unavailable or unknown to be involved in model training, the domain adaptation approaches also incapable. To solve the problem, we propose a parallel reversible instance normalization method based on adaptive threshold stage division for remaining useful life prediction of unknown bearings. First, we design an adaptive threshold method to find degradation points to divide the healthy and degradation stages. Then according to time series, we merge the original vibration data and its instance normalized data to increase the data distribution diversity. Finally, we combine instance normalization and parallel reversible normalization of the source bearing data into unified RUL learning framework to solve the uncertainty of counterfactual data and improve RUL prediction performance. The results show that the method is superior to the state-of-the-art methods for RUL prediction of unknown bearings.

Domain adaptation (DA) -based RUL prediction methods have achieved great success for the adaptation ability of the distribution discrepancy between the source and target domains. However, DA methods are powerless when the target domain data are not available for training. To solve this problem, we propose an inter-domain intra-domain normalized generalization (IDIDNG) network, which consists of three modules, respectively, the pre-processing module, the feature transformation module, and the RUL prediction module. First, we design the pre-processing module to process the bearing vibration data with peak-to-peak and Z-score. Finally, it is connected into a four-dimensional array. In the feature transformation module, via intra-domain and inter-domain normalization as well as mean-variance cross-swap, we transform the data distribution expressions of invariant features of bearings from the perspective of different bearings and different degradation stage of one bearing, such that the model enables to learn the intra-domain and inter-domain discrepancy. Further we design four adaptable weighting parameters into the intra-domain normalization to learn the appropriate normalized mean and variance via the model training. Finally, we design the GRU-based RUL prediction module to predict the unknown bearings. We conducted experiments under the PHM2012 dataset, experimental results show that our method achieves satisfactory prediction accuracy in the unknown bearings.

Service robots play an increasingly important role in people's daily life. The density of pedestrians is large and the movement is irregular in pedestrian-robot mixed traffic flows. Robots are prone to collision with pedestrians, and the tasks to be offloaded are closely related to pedestrians. How to analyze the tasks of robots and select the appropriate roadside unit is an important issue. In this paper, the social force model is used to predict the positions of pedestrians and robots, taking into account the influence of various forces to avoid collisions. A task offloading resource optimization algorithm with position prediction is proposed. According to the predicted information, the size and position distribution of all tasks in the scenario are obtained, and then the neural network trained beforehand based on deep Q-Iearning is used to generate a task offloading strategy. The simulation results show that the running time of the proposed algorithm is very short, and the resource allocation required for task offloading is completed in advance based on the predicted information before robots arriving the corresponding positions. Besides, the algorithm significantly reduces the task offloading delay.

DCSim: Computing and Networking Integration based Container Scheduling Simulator for data Centers

The increasing prevalence of cloud-native technologies, particularly containers, has led to the widespread adoption of containerized deployments in data centers. The advancement of deep neural network models has increased the demand for container-based distributed model training and inference, where frequent data transmission among nodes has emerged as a significant performance bottleneck. However, traditional container scheduling simulators often overlook the influence of network modeling on the efficiency of container scheduling, primarily concentrating on modeling computational resources. In this paper, we focus on a container scheduling simulator based on collaboration between computing and networking within data centers. We propose a new container scheduling simulator for data centers, named DCSim. The simulator consists of several modules: a data center module, a network simulation module, a container scheduling module, a discrete event-driven module, and a data collection and analysis module. Together, these modules provide heterogeneous computing power modeling and dynamic network simulation capabilities. We design a discrete event model using SimPy to represent various aspects of container processing, including container requests, scheduling, execution, pauses, communication, migration, and termination within data centers. Among these, lightweight virtualization technology based on Mininet is employed to construct a software-defined network. An experimental environment for container scheduling simulation was established, and functional and performance tests were conducted on the simulator to validate its scheduling simulation capabilities. Distinguishing LLM-generated from Human-written Code by Contrastive Learning

Large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT released by OpenAI, have attracted significant attention from both industry and academia due to their demonstrated ability to generate high-quality content for various tasks. Despite the impressive capabilities of LLMs, there are growing concerns regarding their potential risks in various fields, such as news, education, and software engineering. Recently, several commercial and open-source LLM-generated content detectors have been proposed, which, however, are primarily designed for detecting natural language content without considering the specific characteristics of program code. This paper aims to fill this gap by proposing a novel ChatGPT-generated code detector, CodeGPTSensor, based on a contrastive learning framework and a semantic encoder built with UniXcoder. To assess the effectiveness of CodeGPTSensor on differentiating ChatGPT-generated code from human-written code, we first curate a large-scale Human and Machine comparison Corpus (HMCorp), which includes 550K pairs of human-written and ChatGPT-generated code (i.e., 288K Python code pairs and 222K Java code pairs). Based on the HMCorp dataset, our qualitative and quantitative analysis of the characteristics of ChatGPT-generated code reveals the challenge and opportunity of distinguishing ChatGPT-generated code from human-written code with their representative features. Our experimental results indicate that CodeGPTSensor can effectively identify ChatGPT-generated code, outperforming all selected baselines. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Offline Reinforcement Learning (RL) optimizes policy using pre-collected data instead of direct environment interaction, offering a safe and cost-effective solution for sequential decision-making in the real world. However, it faces challenges such as distribution shift issues and vulnerability under perturbations. Researchers have developed various conservative methods to improve the robustness of offline RL. Nevertheless, model-based methods can result in transition distribution shift issues, while model-free value-based uncertainty penalty methods may not be sufficiently robust. To address these problems, we propose a new method called Robust Offline RL via Conservative Smoothing and Dynamics Controlling (RCSD). To achieve reliable value estimation of out-of-distribution (OOD) actions, RCSD uses both model-free uncertainty penalty and model-based simulation methods. It introduces a new one-step simulation method with conservative dynamics controlling to avoid value overestimation caused by transition distribution shifts. Moreover, RCSD considers both current and next states when generating OOD states to ensure cautious value estimation and efficient data utilization. RCSD uses conservative Q-smoothing and policy smoothing to strengthen the policy against sudden changes under perturbations. Experiments on D4RL benchmark demonstrate that RCSD can achieve state-of-the-art performance compared to baselines in either benchmark or adversarial attack tests.
