Warburg Effects in Cancer and Normal Proliferating Cells:Two Tales of the Same Name

It has been observed that both cancer tissue cells and normal proliferating cells(NPCs)have the Warburg *** goal here is to demonstrate that they do this for different *** accomplish this,we have analyzed the transcriptomic data of over 7000 cancer and control tissues of 14 cancer types in TCGA and data of five NPC types in *** analyses reveal that NPCs accumulate large quantities of ATPs produced by the respiration process before starting the Warburg effect,to raise the intracellular pH from 6.8 to 7.2 and to prepare for cell division *** cell cycle starts,the cells start to rely on glycolysis for ATP generation followed by ATP hydrolysis and lactic acid release,to maintain the elevated intracellular pH as needed by cell division since together the three processes are pH *** cells go back to the normal respirationbased ATP production once the cell division phase *** comparison,cancer cells have reached their intracellular pH at 7.4 from top down as multiple acid-loading transporters are up-regulated and most acid-extruding ones except for lactic acid exporters are *** cells use continuous glycolysis for ATP production as way to acidify the intracellular space since the lactic acid secretion is decoupled from glycolysis-based ATP generation and is pH balanced by increased expressions of acid-loading ***-expression analyses suggest that lactic acid secretion is regulated by external,non-pH related ***,our data strongly suggest that the two cell types have the Warburg effect for very different reasons.

On account of a large scale of dataset need to be annotated to fit for specific tasks, Zero-Shot Learning(ZSL) has invoked so much attention and got significant progress in recent research due to the prevalence of deep neural networks. At present, ZSL is mainly solved through the utilization of auxiliary information, such as semantic attributes and text descriptions. And then, we can employ the mapping method to bridge the gap between visual and semantic space. However, due to the lack of effective use of auxiliary information, this problem has not been solved well. Inspired by previous work, we consider that visual space can be used as the embedding space to get a stronger ability to express the precise characteristics of semantic information. Meanwhile, we take into account that there are some noise attributes in the annotated information of public datasets that need to be processed. Based on these considerations, we propose an end-to-end method with convolutional architecture, instead of conventionally linear projection, to provide a deep representation for semantic information to solve ZSL. Semantic features would express more detailed and precise information after being feed into our method. Besides, we use word embedding to generate some superclasses for original classes and propose a new loss function for these superclasses to assist in training. Experiments show that our method can get decent improvements for ZSL and Generalized Zero-Shot Learning(GZSL) on several public datasets.

In this paper, we propose a new Dynamic datacentric Storage (DDS) mechanism in wireless sensor network. DDS, which is aware of the data distributions of the network, dynamically adjusts the mappings from sensor readings to the storage points to reduce the cost of storing these readings, as well as to balance the storage and workload in the network. Moreover, it takes advantage of the GPSR routing protocol to store multiple copies of readings to improve the robustness of the network with little overhead. Simulation results show that the approach is more energy-efficient and robust than other data-centric schemes.

Text analytics directly on compression (TADOC) is a promising technology designed for handling big data analytics. However, a substantial amount of DRAM is required for high performance, which limits its usage in many important scenarios where the capacity of DRAM is limited, such as memory-constrained systems. Non-volatile memory (NVM) is a novel storage technology that combines the advantage of reading per-formance and byte addressability of DRAM with the durability of traditional storage devices like SSD and HDD. Unfortunately, no research demonstrates how to use NVM to reduce DRAM utilization in compressed data analytics. In this paper, we propose N-TADOC, which substitutes DRAM with NVM while maintaining TADOC's analytics performance and space savings. Utilizing an NVM block device to reduce DRAM utilization presents two challenges, including poor data locality in traversing datasets and auxiliary data structure reconstruction on NVM. We develop novel designs to solve these challenges, including a pruning method with NVM pool management, bottom-up upper bound estimation, correspondent data structures, and persistence strategy at different levels of cost. Experimental results show that on four real-world datasets, N-TADOC achieves 2.04× performance speedup compared to the processing directly on the uncompressed data and 70.7% DRAM space saving compared to the original TADOC.

With the development of the architectures and the growth of AIoT application requirements, data processing on edge has become popular. Neural network inference is widely employed for data analytics on edge devices. This paper extensively explores neural network inference on integrated edge devices and proposes EdgeNN, the first neural network inference solution on CPU-GPU integrated edge devices. EdgeNN has three novel characteristics. First, EdgeNN can adaptively utilize the unified physical memory and conduct the zero-copy optimization. Second, EdgeNN involves a novel inference-targeted inter- and intra-kernel CPU-GPU hybrid execution approach, which co-runs the CPU with the GPU to fully utilize the edge device’s computing resources. Third, EdgeNN adopts a fine-grained adaptive inference tuning approach, which can divide the complicated inference structure into sub-tasks mapped to the CPU and the GPU. Experiments show that on six popular neural network inference tasks, EdgeNN brings an average of 3.97×, 3.12×, and 8.80× speedups to inference on the CPU of the integrated device, inference on a mobile phone CPU, and inference on an edge CPU device. Additionally, it achieves 22.02% time benefits to the direct execution of the original programs. Specifically, 9.93% comes from better utilization of unified memory, and 10.76% comes from CPU-GPU hybrid execution. Besides, EdgeNN can deliver 29.14× and 5.70× higher energy efficiency than the edge CPU and the discrete GPU, respectively. We have made EdgeNN available at https://***/ChenyangZhang-cs/EdgeNN.

Relation clustering is a general approach for open relation extraction (OpenRE). Current methods have two major problems. One is that their good performance relies on large amounts of labeled and pre-defined relational instances for pre-training, which are costly to acquire in reality. The other is that they only focus on learning a high-dimensional metric space to measure the similarity of novel relations and ignore the specific relational representations of clusters. In this work, we propose a new prompt-based framework named MatchPrompt, which can realize OpenRE with efficient knowledge transfer from only a few predefined relational instances as well as mine the specific meanings for cluster interpretability. To our best knowledge, we are the first to introduce a prompt-based framework for unlabeled clustering. Experimental results on different datasets show that MatchPrompt achieves the new SOTA results for OpenRE. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Currently, most works on interval valued problems mainly focus on attribute reduction (i.e., feature selection) by using rough set technologies. However, less research work on classifier building on interval-valued problems has been conducted. It is promising to propose an approach to build classifier for interval-valued problems. In this paper, we propose a classification approach based on interval valued fuzzy rough sets. First, the concept of interval valued fuzzy granules are proposed, which is the crucial notion to build the reduction framework for the interval-valued databases. Second, the idea to keep the critical value invariant before and after reduction is selected. Third, the structure of reduction rule is completely studied by using the discernibility vector approach. After the description of rule inference system, a set of rules covering all the objects can be obtained, which is used as a rule based classifier for future classification. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate feasibility and affectivity of the proposed method in the application of privacy protection.

Video has become popular in our daily life for both professional and consumer applications. Both low level video processing and high level semantic video analysis are critically computational tasks in application domains. Most of current video computing tools are developed for specific analytic tasks, they are lack higher level interoperability with database and treat database merely as a relational data storage engine rather than an analytic platform, which causes inefficient data access and massive amount of data movement. In this paper, we study how to support video data management over relational database, and present our initial solutions of video data storage mechanism, video data access method and efficient video analytics. We also illustrate our ongoing prototype system HybVideo that developed in a novel architecture. It integrates above solutions to tackle the major challenges of providing a platform for both storage and analysis of video data.

In this paper, we discuss the energy efficient multicast problem for discrete power levels in ad hoc sensor wireless networks. The problem of our concern is: given n nodes and each node v has l(v) transmission power levels and a multicast request (s, D), how to find a multicast tree rooted at s and spanning all destinations in D such that the total energy cost of the multicast tree is minimized. This problem is NP-hard. We propose a NWM_DST algorithm which has a theoretical guaranteed approximation performance ratio, and two efficient heuristics MNJT and g-D-MIP for multicast tree problem. Simulation results have shown efficiency of our proposed algorithms.

In this paper, an algorithm, named CCHN, is proposed to solve the partitional clustering problem. An outer chaotic mechanism with annealing strategy is introduced into the competitive Hopfield neural network to construct CCHN for expecting better opportunities of converging to the optimal solution. In addition to retain the competitive characteristics of the conventional competitive Hopfield neural network, CCHN displays a rich range of complex and flexible chaotic dynamics. The chaotic dynamics and the annealing strategy guarantee the powerful searching ability and the effective convergence of CCHN. Results simulated on clustering benchmark problems show that CCHN algorithm is more likely to find an optimal or near-optimal solution with a higher successful ratio than previous algorithms.
