Monitoring the extra-high-voltage transmission line corridor(EHVTLC)in mountains is critical for safe smart-grid ***,the transmission lines are so narrow that they are difficult to recognize using multispectral satellite images with a spatial resolution of 10 *** this study,we developed a new method using the red band–shadow-eliminated vegetation index(SEVI)–blue band(RSB)composite image to enhance the EHVTLC in green mountains(named RSB-enhancement method).Using this method,the EHVTLC becomes evident in the false-color synthesis of the RSB composite of the Sentinel-2 ***,we recognized and extracted approximately 342.45 km of the EHVTLC in a mountainous region of Fuzhou City,China,including a 46.73 km three-parallel-lane segment of 1000 kV and a 295.72 km two-parallel-lane segment of 500 *** analysis shows that the SEVI mean difference between the EHVTLC and the buffer zone reaches approximately 10%,and three landslides and 2.66 km^(2) soil erosion reside in the buffer zone which area is approximately 73.67 km^(2).Finally,the RSB-enhancement method can be used in other satellite images with spatial resolutions of greater than 10 m for enhancement and recognition the transmission line corridors in green mountains.

As a form of artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on interactive learning, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has been widely applied across various fields and has achieved remarkable accomplishments. However, DRL faces certain limitations, including low sample efficiency and poor generalization. Therefore, we present how to leverage generative AI (GAI) to address these issues above and enhance the performance of DRL algorithms in this paper. We first introduce several classic GAI and DRL algorithms and demonstrate the applications of GAI-enhanced DRL algorithms. Then, we discuss how to use GAI to improve DRL algorithms from the data and policy perspectives. Subsequently, we introduce a framework that demonstrates an actual and novel integration of GAI with DRL, i.e., GAI-enhanced DRL. Additionally, we provide a case study of the framework on UAV-assisted integrated near-field/far-field communication to validate the performance of the proposed framework. The fifth generation (5G) mobile network is a new generation of broadband mobile communication technology with the potential to address the increasing demands of new user services and applications that have stringent low latency and high bandwidth requirements. Besides the enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) which is an evolution of broadband services from previous generations, the ultra reliable low latency communication (URLLC) service comes with stringent delay requirements that are needed to support new applications like autonomous vehicles, augmented/virtual reality, etc. Mobile or multiple access edge computing (MEC) emerged to provide services and computing resources for users at the network edge to provide faster access speeds and lower end-to-end delays. To better meet user needs and maximize resource utilization, network resources need to be allocated and managed efficiently. Admission control for user requests is one of the methods used that can effectively prevent network congestion, thereby improving the overall performance of the system. In this paper, we propose a RED-based Admission Control with Latency Considerations (REDAL) algorithm for user admission control that aims to increase throughput, meet users’ delay requirements and reduce packet discard rate. By explicitly accounting for user traffic delay constraints and bandwidth requirements, we are able to meet the strict delay constraints of URLLC traffic while meeting the bandwidth requirements of eMBB traffic. We validate our approach in an MEC scenario to demonstrate high resource utilization and also keeping the request discard rate below 20%.

Detection of ChatGPT Fake Science with the xFakeSci Learning Algorithm

Generative AI tools exemplified by ChatGPT are becoming a new reality. This study is motivated by the premise that "AI generated content may exhibit a distinctive behavior that can be separated from scientific articles". In this study, we show how articles can be generated using means of prompt engineering for various diseases and conditions. We then show how we tested this premise in two phases and prove its validity. Subsequently, we introduce xFakeSci, a novel learning algorithm, that is capable of distinguishing ChatGPT-generated articles from publications produced by scientists. The algorithm is trained using network models driven from both sources. To mitigate overfitting issues, we incorporated a calibration step that is built upon data-driven heuristics, including proximity and ratios. Specifically, from a total of a 3952 fake articles for three different medical conditions, the algorithm was trained using only 100 articles, but calibrated using folds of 100 articles. As for the classification step, it was performed using 300 articles per condition. The actual label steps took place against an equal mix of 50 generated articles and 50 authentic PubMed abstracts. The testing also spanned publication periods from 2010 to 2024 and encompassed research on three distinct diseases: cancer, depression, and Alzheimer’s. Further, we evaluated the accuracy of the xFakeSci algorithm against some of the classical data mining algorithms (e.g., Support Vector Machines, Regression, and Naive Bayes). The xFakeSci algorithm achieved F1 scores ranging from 80% to 94%, outperforming common data mining algorithms, which scored F1 values between 38% and 52%. We attribute the noticeable difference to the introduction of calibration and a proximity distance heuristic, which underscores this promising performance. Although several surveys on Neural Combinatorial Optimization (NCO) solvers specifically designed to solve Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs) have been conducted, they did not cover the state-of-the-art (SOTA) NCO solvers emerged recently. More importantly, to establish a comprehensive and up-to-date taxonomy of NCO solvers, we systematically review relevant publications and preprints, categorizing them into four distinct types, namely Learning to Construct, Learning to Improve, Learning to Predict-Once, and Learning to Predict-Multiplicity solvers. Subsequently, we present the inadequacies of the SOTA solvers, including poor generalization, incapability to solve large-scale VRPs, inability to address most types of VRP variants simultaneously, and difficulty in comparing these NCO solvers with the conventional Operations Research algorithms. Simultaneously, we discuss on-going efforts, identify open inadequacies, as well as propose promising and viable directions to overcome these inadequacies. Notably, existing efforts focus on only one or two of these inadequacies, with none attempting to address all of them concurrently. In addition, we compare the performance of representative NCO solvers from the Reinforcement, Supervised, and Unsupervised Learning paradigms across VRPs of varying scales. Finally, following the proposed taxonomy, we provide an accompanying web page as a live repository for NCO solvers. Existing smart contract vulnerability identification approaches mainly focus on complete program detection. Consequently, lots of known potentially vulnerable locations need manual verification, which is energy-exhaustive and error-prone. Fuzzing is an effective way to detect vulnerabilities. However, current fuzzers cannot effectively probe these suspicious targets because they overlook two key factors: exploring all paths toward the targets and providing high-quality directed seed inputs. This paper presents a Directed vulnerability veriFier (DFier), elaborating effective transaction sequences with directed inputs for the fuzzer, to focus on analyzing target paths and automatically detect whether the given locations are vulnerable. Specifically, DFier fuses the effectiveness of static analysis and the efficiency of fuzzing. The static analysis helps locate target paths and generate directed inputs for the fuzzer under three heuristic strategies. The first prefers inputs with the larger possibility of triggering potential vulnerabilities based on target features. The second guides the value mutation to satisfy the path constraints. The third adequately leverages execution information to help find exploits faster. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DFier is effective in verifying contract security, compared with three existing contract fuzzers (i.e., contractFuzzer, sFuzz, and conFuzzius). Pressure injury (PI) is one of the major causes of short-term death. Early intervention for patients at risk plays an essential role in PI. However, many nurses may ignore risks. This paper aims to establish a model to predict interventions according to the patient's physical signs, which can help nurses develop care plans. We used data from 1, 483 patients with 25 characteristics and 17 interventions. We use the Random Forest and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize model parameters. Then we compared it with KNN, SVM, and Decision Tree. The 10-fold cross-validation result showed that the Random Forest has better accuracy than other methods, with an f1 score of 0.84. This finding proved the feasibility of using machine learning to help formulate care plans according to the classification of index prediction results. Our model shows that hemoglobin, Braden PI score, and age are the three most influential risk factors. © 2021 IEEE.

Building upon the impressive success of CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining), recent pioneer works have proposed to adapt the powerful CLIP to video data, leading to efficient and effective video learners for open-vocabulary action recognition. Inspired by that humans perform actions in diverse environments, our work delves into an intriguing question: Can CLIP-based video learners effectively generalize to video domains they have not encountered during training? To answer this, we establish a CROSS-domain Open-Vocabulary Action recognition benchmark named XOV-Action, and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of five state-of-the-art CLIP-based video learners under various types of domain gaps. The evaluation demonstrates that previous methods exhibit limited action recognition performance in unseen video domains, revealing potential challenges of the cross-domain open-vocabulary action recognition task. In this paper, we focus on one critical challenge of the task, namely scene bias, and accordingly contribute a novel scene-aware video-text alignment method. Our key idea is to distinguish video representations apart from scene-encoded text representations, aiming to learn scene-agnostic video representations for recognizing actions across domains. A Survey on Fairness in Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown powerful performance and development prospects and are widely deployed in the real world. However, LLMs can capture social biases from unprocessed training data and propagate the biases to downstream tasks. Unfair LLM systems have undesirable social impacts and potential harms. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of related research on fairness in LLMs. Considering the influence of parameter magnitude and training paradigm on research strategy, we divide existing fairness research into oriented to medium-sized LLMs under pre-training and fine-tuning paradigms and oriented to large-sized LLMs under prompting paradigms. First, for medium-sized LLMs, we introduce evaluation metrics and debiasing methods from the perspectives of intrinsic bias and extrinsic bias, respectively. Then, for large-sized LLMs, we introduce recent fairness research, including fairness evaluation, reasons for bias, and debiasing methods.
