Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function labels are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific labels, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function labels at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function. © 2023 IEEE.

SDIGLM: Leveraging Large Language Models and Multi-Modal Chain of Thought for Structural Damage Identification

Existing computer vision(CV)-based structural damage identification models demonstrate notable accuracy in categorizing and localizing damage. However, these models present several critical limitations that hinder their practical application in civil engineering(CE). Primarily, their ability to recognize damage types remains constrained, preventing comprehensive analysis of the highly varied and complex conditions encountered in real-world CE structures. Second, these models lack linguistic capabilities, rendering them unable to articulate structural damage characteristics through natural language descriptions. With the continuous advancement of artificial intelligence(AI), large multi-modal models(LMMs) have emerged as a transformative solution, enabling the unified encoding and alignment of textual and visual data. These models can autonomously generate detailed descriptive narratives of structural damage while demonstrating robust generalization across diverse scenarios and tasks. This study introduces SDIGLM, an innovative LMM for structural damage identification, developed based on the open-source VisualGLM-6B architecture. To address the challenge of adapting LMMs to the intricate and varied operating conditions in CE, this work integrates a U-Net-based semantic segmentation module to generate defect segmentation maps as visual Chain of Thought(CoT). Additionally, a multi-round dialogue fine-tuning dataset is constructed to enhance logical reasoning, complemented by a language CoT formed through prompt engineering. By leveraging this multi-modal CoT, SDIGLM surpasses general-purpose LMMs in structural damage identification, achieving an accuracy of 95.24% across various infrastructure types. Moreover, the model effectively describes damage characteristics such as hole size, crack direction, and corrosion severity. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This article presents a design approach for a multi-channel thermocouple converter, enhancing accuracy, performance, and flexibility, while also examining the impact of heat rise rate on temperature values.

In recent years, study of spatially structured light has become an attractive and promising area, providing more ways to explore unusual and anomalous effects in optics. Here, we propose a kind of polar-segmented vector optical field (VOF), and demonstrate anomalous focal properties. Due to the appearance of the longitudinal component in tight focusing processes, the transverse energy flow and transverse spin angular momentum (SAM) are achieved, which can be applied in areas such as manipulating particles, as the transverse energy can transport the particles and the SAM can spin the particles in more degrees. Overall, the proposed polar-segmented VOF and the corresponding anomalous focal properties are crucial for advancing theories and technologies in optics, underscoring its importance in both fundamental research and practical applications. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

On-chip omnidirectional electromagnetic-thermal cloak

Simultaneously guiding electromagnetic waves and heat flow at any incidence angle to smoothly bypass some electromagnetic/thermal sensitive elements is a key factor to ensure efficient communication and thermal protection for an on-chip system. In this study, an omnidirectional on-chip electromagnetic-thermal cloak is proposed. Firstly, a holey metallic plate with periodic array of subwavelength apertures is designed by optical surface transformation to realize an omnidirectional electromagnetic cloaking module for on-chip electromagnetic signal. Secondly, a two-layer ring-shaped engineered thermal structure is designed by solving Laplace equation to realize an omnidirectional thermal cloaking module for in-chip heat flow. Finally, these two cloaking modules are combined elaborately to achieve cloaking effect for both the electromagnetic waves and thermal fields simultaneously from any detecting direction, thus protecting the build-in electromagnetic/thermal sensitive elements without disturbing the external electromagnetic/thermal signal. The proposed electromagnetic-thermal cloak may have potential advantage in dealing with omnidirectional electromagnetic compatibility/shielding and multi-directional thermal management/dissipation of an on-chip system. Telemedicine plays an important role in Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).The virtual surgery simulation system,as a key component in telemedicine,requires to compute in ***,this paper proposes a realtime cutting model based on finite element and order reduction method,which improves the computational speed and ensure the real-time *** proposed model uses the finite element model to construct a deformation model of the virtual ***,a model order reduction method combining proper orthogonal decomposition and Galerkin projection is employed to reduce the amount of deformation *** addition,the cutting path is formed according to the collision intersection position of the surgical instrument and the lesion area of the virtual ***,the Bezier curve is adopted to draw the incision outline after the virtual lung has been ***,the simulation system is set up on the PHANTOM OMNI force haptic feedback device to realize the cutting simulation of the virtual *** results show that the proposed model can enhance the real-time performance of telemedicine,reduce the complexity of the cutting simulation and make the incision smoother and more natural.

To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration. © 2022 IEEE.

As a novel computing paradigm, the Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) network provides an additional avenue for onboard task execution for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) in unmanned systems. In a VEC network, CAVs can offload tasks to different external servers for execution and obtain results. However, existing task offloading studies only focus on the one-to-one offloading of onboard tasks to edge servers, ignoring the requirements of parallel task execution and security. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based multi-destination cooperative task offloading architecture in a VEC network. Based on this architecture, we analyze the task offloading and blockchain models and formulate a multi-destination cooperative task offloading optimization problem. Finally, we compare the performance of different multi-destination task offloading methods in simulations and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture and optimization.

The metal-dielectric dimer is an ideal structure for enhancing single-molecule fluorescence. When a single-molecule interacts with the metal-dielectric dimer, the metal-dielectric plasmonic system creates strong resonance, which amplifies the electric field by several orders of magnitude. One-dimensional photonic crystals (1D PCs) provide a photonic bandgap (PBG) and nearly perfect reflection for specific wavelengths. These phenomena contribute significantly to fluorescence enhancement. Herein, we propose the structure of 1D PCs with a silicon-silver dimer to achieve remarkable fluorescence enhancement under numerical study. Specifically, our design involves a 20 nm gapped silicon-silver dimer with a 50 nm nanochannel positioned above it. Through the optimization of structural parameters, our results demonstrate that quantum dots with a high intrinsic quantum yield, such as 100 %, are capable of achieving a fluorescence directional emission enhancement of up to three orders of magnitude compared to the bare structure, with an average enhancement factor reaching 407-fold. These findings stand for the unique sensitivity of the device, making it a promising choice for applications in biological nanoparticle detection, environmental monitoring, and other fields in the future. © 2024

This paper considers the problem of monitoring and adaptively estimating an environmental field, such as temperature or salinity, using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV moves in the field and persistently measures environmental scalars and its position in its local coordinate frame. The environmental scalars are approximately linearly distributed over the region of interest, and an adaptive estimator is designed to estimate the gradient. By orthogonal decomposition of the velocity of the AUV, a linear time-varying system is equivalently constructed, and the sufficient conditions on the motion of the AUV are established, under which the global exponential stability of the estimation error system is rigorously proved. Furthermore, an estimate of the exponential convergence rate is given, and a reference trajectory that maximizes the estimate of the convergence rate is obtained for the AUV to track. Numerical examples verify the stability and efficiency of the system.
