In this paper, the envelope-constrained H∗ filtering problem is investigated for a class of discrete time-varying stochastic systems over a finite horizon. The system under consideration involves fading measurements, randomly occurring nonlinearities (RONs) and mixed (multiplicative and additive) noises. A novel envelope-constrained performance criterion is proposed to better quantify the transient dynamics of the filtering error process over the finite horizon. The purpose of the problem addressed is to design a time-varying filter such that both the H∗ performance and the desired envelope constraints are achieved at each time step. By utilizing the stochastic analysis techniques combined with the ellipsoid description on the estimation errors, sufficient conditions are established in the form of recursive matrix inequalities (RMIs) reflecting both the envelope information and the desired H∗ performance index. The filter gain matrix is characterized by means of the solvability of the deduced RMIs. Finally, a simulation example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed filtering design scheme. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Visual object tracking is a fundamental research topic in computer vision. In this paper, we proposed a novel hybrid tracking method based on Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) and Multiple Instance Learning (MIL). Most modern trackers may be inaccurate when the training samples are imprecise which causes drift. To resolve these problems, MIL method is introduced into the tracking task, which can alleviate drift to some extent. However, the MIL tracker may detect the positive sample that is less important. PCNN is different from traditional artificial neural networks, which can be applied in many image processing fields, such as image segmentation. So, the PCNN was employed as sample detector which can know the most important sample when training the classifier. Then, a more robust and much faster tracker is proposed to approximately maximize the bag likelihood function. Empirical results on a large set of sequences demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed approach in robustness, stability and efficiency to state-of-the-art methods in the literature.

The control of bilateral teleoperators is challenging due to the complexity of their nonlinear dynamics, the time delays in the communications as well as the wide range of practical real applications. In this paper, operational space adaptive control of hybrid motion/force synchronization is proposed for bilateral networked teleoperation system with asymmetric timevarying delays in communication channels. The adaptive control with parameter update mechanism is developed to deal with the different kinematics, dynamics uncertainties and external disturbances for the master robot and the slave robot. The system stability is rigorously proved using Lyapunov stability synthesis. The proposed adaptive control is robust against relative motion disturbances, parametric uncertainties and time delay, which is validated by extensive simulation studies.

Mobile robots' motion is constrained by the maximum velocity its actuators can provide,when it tracks a reference trajectory which imposes demanding requirements on the robot's driving *** this paper,a model predictive control(MPC) scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking control of two-wheel mobile *** on the derived tracking-error kinematics of the robot,the proposed MPC approach can be iteratively formulated as a quadratic programming(QP) problem,which can be solved using a linear variable inequality based primal-dual neural network(LVI-PDNN) over a finite receding *** applied neural networks are both stable in the sense of Lyapunov and globally convergent to the exact optimal solutions of reformulated convex programming *** smoothness of the robot motion is improved,a reasonable magnitudes of the robot velocities and a better tracking performance are *** and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and characteristics of the proposed LVI-PDNN based MPC approaches to trajectory tracking control.

In this paper,a developed multi-fingered dexterous hand with flexible tactile skin is *** dexterous hand has 5-fingers with 6-DOFs and each finger is equipped with a small harmonic drive gear and a fine high-power mini *** achieve the goal of grasping with high accuracy,each fingertip is covered with the tactile array sensors for determination of the force between the finger and the grasped *** preliminary experiments are conducted to illustrate the performance of the grasping of the developed dexterous hand.

Directional Beamforming for High-Speed Railway Communications with Frequency Offset Precorrection

This paper considers a multi-antenna transmission strategy for high speed railway communications. In order to achieve better performance than conventional space-frequency block coding schemes, we propose a directional beamforming strategy for the High-speed railway(HSR) communication by exploiting some characteristic of the railway system including predetermined moving tracks and real-time positioning information. Moreover,for alleviating the effect of Doppler shift due to the moving train, a frequency offset precorrection method is also incorporated with direction beamforming. Theoretical Signalto-noise ratio(SNR) gain of the proposed beamforming scheme over traditional HSR communication schemes is also derived for illustrating the performance *** results verify the effectiveness of our proposed scheme even with some kind of imperfect position information available at the transmitter.

A widely tunable high precision chaotic fiber laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated.A tunable fiber Bragg grating(TFBG) filter is used as a tuning element to determine the turning range from 1533 nm to 1558 nm with a linewidth of 0.5 nm at any *** wide tuning range is capable of supporting 32 wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM) channels with 100 GHz channel *** single wavelengths are found to be chaotic with 10 GHz *** full width at half maximum(FWHM) of the chaotic correlation curve of the different wavelengths is on a picosecond time scale,thereby offering millimeter spatial resolution in WDM detection.

This paper studies how to optimize the energy usage of home appliances in the demand response framework from the consumer's perspective. The loads of major home appliances are divided into three categories: fixed loads, regulate-able loads, and deferrable loads. For efficient usage of the home appliances, an integrative optimization of the three category loads is needed. The paper investigates the relation of the integrative optimization and individual optimization of each category load. A regression-based learning strategy is employed to learn HAVC energy consumption model for development of more efficient DR policy. The study is conducted through an integrative computational experiment approach that combines a home energy simulator and MATlab together for demand response development and evaluation. The paper examines how the integrative demand response of the residential home appliances are affected by dynamic pricing tariffs, seasons, and weather. Case studies are conducted by considering home energy consumption, dynamic electricity pricing schemes, and demand response methods.

With the polynomial vector space decomposition by using Normal Form theory, the normalized analytical solutions of modal resonance are derived, which solves that the traditional Normal Form solution cannot be easily obtained under resonant condition. Based on the solution, from the viewpoint of whether the modal interaction couples and resonates or not, the nonlinear terms are decomposed into four types, i.e., uncoupled nonresonant terms, coupled nonresonant terms, uncoupled resonant terms and coupled resonant terms. The corresponding modes are categorized into 5 types, i.e., single modes, uncoupled nonresonant modes, coupled nonresonant modes, uncoupled resonant modes and coupled resonant modes. A reduced-order mode reconstruction based on least square method to estimate the coefficients of higher-order interactional modes is proposed. This might be potentially a new approach to cope with the challenge from huge amount of higher-order modes in higher-order nonlinear analysis. Two case studies are presented to analyze the types and reconstructions of the nonlinear modes, 2nd- and 3rd- order terms, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
