This paper presents a directly driven wave power generation system which is connected to power grid composed of permanent magnetic linear generator(PMLG), generator side converter, grid side converter, controller and grid. control strategies based on back to back converter structure was proposed: vector decoupling control was used to generator side converter aiming at optimize power extraction from wave energy;Grid voltage oriented control was used to grid side converter in order to make the current sinusoidal and realize unit power factor control. Since the DC link voltage has fluctuation using traditional method, a method with power feed forward was proposed to keep the DC link voltage stable and improve the dynamic response of the system. A simulation model was built for the whole system in Matlab/Simulink and simulation results verified that the proposed control strategy is feasible and effective. © 2013 IEEE.

The proposed advance model-free adaptive control algorithm is able to regain the control performance when some undesirable situations occur in linear motion system. A case study is employed in the development which involves the control of a linear motor setup using two control algorithms: a nominal control algorithm based on PID tuned for high performance, and the robust accommodating control based on advanced model free adaptive control (AMFAC). Compared with PID control, AMFAC is more robust to disturbances such as vibrations for fast time-varying systems. Simulation results based on the model of a real linear motion system setup are provided to show the effectiveness of the approach.

Traditional batch model-based Collaborative Filtering (CF) approaches typically assume a collection of users' rating data is given a priori for training the model. They suffer from a common yet critical drawback, i.e., the model has to be re-trained completely from scratch whenever new training data arrives, which is clearly non-scalable for large real recommender systems where users' rating data often arrives sequentially and frequently. In this paper, we investigate a novel efficient and scalable online collaborative filtering technique for on-the-fly recommender systems, which is able to effectively online update the recommendation model from a sequence of rating observations. Specifically, we propose a family of online multi-task collaborative filtering (OMTCF) algorithms, which tackle the online collaborative filtering task by exploiting the similar principle as online multitask learning. Encouraging empirical results on large-scale datasets showed that the proposed technique is significantly more effective than the state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2013 ACM.

Onboard equipment of CTCS-3 train control system has to be executed the interoperability test by the independent third-party test bench before it running on the lines. During the test, it has a large amount and higher frequency in the data transmission, test phenomenon occurs on several visible interfaces and frequently, test data should be captured and displayed graphically in real time during the test, it should also be replayed graphically after the test, the fault in the test could be analyzed repeatedly, therefore it makes the data recording and analysis easier to read and estimate, help to generate final test result. In this paper, test data capture and analysis system is built based on multi-resolution modeling, related information is organized reasonably, provide the information detail that the tester concerns maximum, improve the simulation fidelity and testing efficiency. The system is implemented using labview tools, and verify the simulation result.

In this paper, adaptive control of unmanned marine surface vessel has been investigated in the presence of uncertain dynamics as well as external disturbance. Variable structure technique has been utilized in the control design to make the dynamic response and desired motion tracking as quickly as possible. In practice, usually the desired trajectories are given as step points, such that direct immediate tracking would cause large acceleration and huge control effort, while the latter may be out of the actuators' limitation. Therefore, a reference model approach is employed, such that instead of direct tracking of the desired set point, the control objective becomes to shape the closed-loop dynamics to match a reference model. The reference model is built using optimization technique which tries to minimizes both tracking error and motion acceleration, and subsequently control effort. The smooth tracking is thus guaranteed in an optimal manner.

In this work, we present a new framework for large scale online kernel classification, making kernel methods efficient and scalable for large-scale online learning tasks. Unlike the regular budget kernel online learning scheme that usually uses different strategies to bound the number of support vectors, our framework explores a functional approximation approach to approximating a kernel function/matrix in order to make the subsequent online learning task efficient and scalable. Specifically, we present two different online kernel machine learning algorithms: (i) the Fourier Online Gradient Descent (FOGD) algorithm that applies the random Fourier features for approximating kernel functions;and (ii) the Nyström Online Gradient Descent (NOGD) algorithm that applies the Nyström method to approximate large kernel matrices. We offer theoretical analysis of the proposed algorithms, and conduct experiments for large-scale online classification tasks with some data set of over 1 million instances. Our encouraging results validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms, making them potentially more practical than the family of existing budget kernel online learning approaches.

As the rapid development MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) packaging technology and magnetoresistance material technology, MR (magnetoresistive) sensors based on magnetoresistance effect which can carry out point measurement of magnetic field may change the measurement techniques in power systems. The currently available fault location of overhead transmission line approaches are mainly based on traveling-wave technique and impedance-based measurement technique. The novel approach based on non-contact measurement of magnetic field is advantageous over traditional approaches in that it is independent of the distributed line parameters and has a location error smaller than one span. In this paper, after a brief reviewing of the whole system architecture, design of a sensor prototype and the associated monitoring software are presented, and tests are performed to verify the functionalities of the designed system. The sensor is developed based on a 3-D AMR (anisotropic magnetoresistance) sensor and the software supports GIS interface, making the fault location intuitively clear and convenient. © 2013 IEEE.

We consider a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system using block diagonalization and eigenbeam-space division multiplexing to suppress inter-user interference and inter-stream interference. In time-varying environments, the performance seriously degrades due to mistracking of beamforming. A channel prediction scheme can eliminate the effect of the time-varying environments. In this paper, using indoor measurement data, we evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance of a multi-user MIMO system with channel prediction based on an autoregressive model. It is shown that the proposed channel prediction technique can improve the BER performance significantly.

This paper presents a hybrid navigation and control method for intelligent wheelchair. A robust and semi-supervised vision tracking method using Microsoft Kinect and obstacle avoidance navigation approach are integrated into a two-level control system. Then, position tracking control considering nonholonomic constraints are adopted for the motion control of wheelchairs. An indoor environment is set up for evaluating the application of the proposed approaches. The experimental results show that the proposed method is effective and can be used as a hands-free controller for the intelligent wheelchair.

This study aims at providing a practical method in large structure health monitoring. A novel fiber optic rosette based on distributed feedback (DFB) fiber laser for acoustic emission (AE) detection and location is presented. The ultra-narrow line width of the DFB fiber laser will result in high resolution in AE wave detection using a fiber optic interferometric demodulation method. The directivity of the fiber optic rosette is investigated. A rosette with three DFB fiber lasers is tested in the experiment to determine the direction of propagation of AE waves. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
