The R-function theory and variational method are employed to solve the torsion problem of the bar with a complicated cross-section. When the variational method is used to solve the elastic torsion problem alone, the stress function can be set to meet the boundary condition, only with the simple cross-section such as the rectangle and ellipse. For the complicated cross-section, it is hard to find a stress function to meet the boundary condition. The R-function theory can solve the problem, and it can be used to describe the complicated cross-section by implicit function form. Introducing the R-function theory can be easy to construct the stress function that satisfied the boundary of the complicated cross-section. A numerical example demonstrates the feasibility and efficiency of the present method.

For solving the big deflection problem which is cause by the far cantilever segment of dead load zero bending moment method, analyzing the composition process of dead load and prestress bending moment, and this paper presents the improvement of dead load zero bending moment *** improved method adopts the prestress in principle: far segment more and close segment litter, which not only can insure the prestress bending moment bigger than dead load zero bending moment in all over the cantilever constructing stage, but also can control the deflection well. The improved method is applied to a PC continuous bridge which has a main span of 168 metres, the deflection decreases 24.4% to that of the original design.

The Guangzhou Subway System adopts a planning scheme that guides passengers through a system of symbolic colors for its routes. However, the designers seem to have neglected color blind's difficulty in distinguishing some hues when selecting the routes' symbolic colors, which suggests that color universal design theories are not properly applied in their design work. This research aims at evaluating Guangzhou Subway's symbolic color and guidance system from the color universal design perspective. We use the Vischeck[1] to simulate and analyze the practical situation. In accordance with the analysis, solutions are recommended.

Aimed at a new type of ventilation - stratum ventilation, air distributions at a breathing-zone in a model office were measured under kinds of air changes, the measure parameters in the experimental studies included temperatures, wind speeds and pollutant concentrations, based on which the thermal comfort at a breathing-zone were studied. Experimental results show that, the temperature, pollutant concentration and wind speeds in a breathing-zone under 5 times air changes are better than those under 6 times air changes. The calculating results of PMV and PPD indicate that the thermal comfort at a breathing-zone under 5 times air changes is better. The experimental study is instructive for the development of the ventilation.

In this paper, a parameter based on geometry changes of the reconstructed multidimensional phase space of the measured vibration signals for structural damage identification is proposed. The choice of the proper delay time steps and embedding dimensions for phase space reconstruction of linear systems is discussed. Using the determined delay time and embedding dimensions, an index Changes of Phase Space Topology (CPST) with multiple embedding dimensions is calculated and then used to identify the structural damage. To demonstrate the reliability of the proposed method, vibration test data corresponding to different damage states of a continuous reinforced concrete slab is used to calculate the CPST value for damage identification. The results indicate that except the measurement points at structural supports, the CPST values at all the measurement points on the structure increase with structural damage level irrespective of the damage location, indicating that using a single or a minimum number of measurement points and their CPST value can effectively identify damage existence in the structure. The traditional modal-based indices are also calculated using the same vibration data for comparison. It is found that the proposed method with CPST is the most sensitive to structural damage than any modal-based index. The results demonstrate that the proposed method with CPST value is very effective in identifying damage existence in the structure. Although it cannot quantify the damage, it can be a good candidate for continuous structural health monitoring because it needs only a few sensors to detect damage existence in the entire structure. Nonlinear dynamic buckling for sandwich shallow conical shell structure under uniform triangular pulse is investigated. Based on the Reissner's assumption and Hamiton's principle, the nonlinear dynamic governing equation of sandwich shallow spherical shells is derived. The corresponding nonlinear dynamic response equations are obtained by Galerkin method and solved by Runge-Kutta method. Budiansky-Roth criterion expressed by displacements of rigid center is employed to determine the critical impact bucking load. The effects of geometric parameters and physical parameters on impact buckling are discussed.
