Aimed at the deficiency of the resampling algorithm in PF, diversity measures ESS (effective sample size) and PDF (population diversity factor) are evaluated respectively. Combined with the estimation result, diversity measures PDF is used for adaptively tuning the resampling threshold. By integrating the operation of particle mutation after resampling into PF and using the above mechanism of diversity guidance, the AMPF algorithm (Adaptive Mutation PF) is presented so as to assure the diversity of particle sets. With the simulation program using matlab 7.0 to track a single target motion from a fixed visual observation points, the performance of diversity measures and AMPF are evaluated and the validity of the proposed method is verified. © 2010 IEEE.

Collective behaviors are usually composed of several groups. Considering the interactions among groups, this paper presents a novel framework to parse collective behaviors for video surveillance applications. We first propose a latent hierarchical model (LHM) with varying structure to represent the behavior with multiple groups. Furthermore, we also propose a multi-layer-based (MLB) inference method, where a sample-based heuristic search (SHS) is introduced to infer the group affiliation. And latent SVM is adopted to learn our model. With the proposed LHM, not only are the collective behaviors detected effectively, but also the group affiliation in the collective behaviors is figured out. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. © 2012 ACM.

Super-resolution based on two dictionary-pairs

For learning-based super-resolution reconstruction, the selection and training of dictionary play an important role in improving image reconstruction quality. A super-resolution algorithm based on two dictionary-pairs is proposed in this paper. This algorithm selects image's high- and mid-frequency components as the features of high- and low-resolution patches respectively, and gets the first dictionary-pair, i.e. joint-basic high/low-resolution dictionary-pair, by means of joint training. Then it calculates the difference between original high/mid-frequency components and reconstructed high/mid-frequency components with the first dictionary-pair, and composes the second dictionary-pair, i.e. residual high- and low-resolution dictionary-pair. During super-resolution reconstruction, the high-frequency component and residual high-frequency component of low-resolution image are reconstructed respectively with the above two dictionary-pairs. The experiment results show that, the subjective and objective reconstruction quality could be effectively improved by our proposed algorithm. © 2013 IFSA.

A simplified 3D gaze tracking technology with stereo vision has been developed in this paper. A pair of stereo cameras and two point light sources are used to estimate 3D gaze of user's eye. Compared with other 3D systems, there are two improvements to simplify the whole system in this paper: First, 3D gaze is estimated as the line linking 3D cornea center and the virtual image of pupil center using the first Purkinje images of two LEDs, and no any user-dependent parameters are used in our paper, which require a complicated calibration procedure for each user. Second, to compute the gaze point on screen by intersecting the estimated 3D gaze, the positions of LEDs and the monitor need to be calibrated in advance. By introducing a planar mirror, two LEDs and the monitor are calibrated using a simple method without any other devices. Experimental results show that our gaze tracking system achieves an average estimation error of about 3 degree. © 2010 IEEE.

For depth information estimation of microscope defocus image, a blur parameter model of defocus image based on Markov random field has been present. It converts problem of depth estimation into optimization problem. An improved Iterated Conditional Modes Algorithm has been applied to complete optimization problem, which the select of initial point employed Least squares estimate algorithm prevents that the result gets into local optimization. The experiments and simulations prove that the model and algorithm is efficiency. © 2008 IEEE.

Robust foreground detection is a fundamental precursor of many video processing applications. Although various approaches were advanced, there still exist many factors making detection very challenging: 1) Dynamic background with gradual brightness changes, camera movement and large amount of noises. 2) Sharp illumination changes caused by shadows, light on-off, and so on. 3) Real-time requirement for practical systems. To overcome these problems, a new approach is proposed in this paper. It is based on the background of conventional Gaussian Mixed Model, incorporating tempo-spatial consistency validation to search genuine foreground seeds, so that foreground segments can be reliably acquired using region growth method. Experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves better performance than conventional GMM approach in detection accuracy, adaptability to sudden illumination changes and computation time.

It is very important to find diversity measure when to perform a resampling step in particle filter. By analyzing the inherent deficiency in resampling algorithm of particle filter, some diversity measures including effective sample size, population diversity factor and particle swarm diversity measure are introduced. Then combined with the simulation program using matlab 7.0 to track a single target motion from a fixed visual observation points, the performance of diversity measures in resampling algorithm of PF are evaluated. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper introduces a new kind of recovery method which is the combination of Bayesian estimation and wavelet threshold. Wavelet coefficients of signals show strong characteristics of the non-Gauss statistics, its probability density function can be modeled by alpha-stable priori distribution. This paper uses Bayesian estimation to obtain the low frequency coefficients, and deals with high frequency coefficients with the wavelet soft threshold, then restore signal by wavelet inverse transform. Bayesian estimation well retains the marginal information of signals, but the signal is still not very smooth recovery and wavelet soft threshold can maintain smooth characteristic. The mixed noise elimination methods of Bayesian estimation and wavelet enhance the peak SNR much greater than wavelet threshold, which has better recovery effect. ©2008 IEEE.

With the accelerated global urbanization and life rhythm, an increasing physical and mental stress has been imposed, which led to a variety of problems that could not be ignored. This paper proposes a novel web-based telemedicine system that is focusing on psychotherapy. Considering the requirement of the psychological treatment, the function of system contains high definition video monitoring, two-way voice talkback, physiology parameters monitoring and data management based on database. The solution of the system is presented in the paper, including the hardware and software design. Some key issues in the system, including HD video processing, physiological parameters processing, are also discussed. Finally, the demonstration system and performance evaluation are presented. © 2011 IEEE.

The pixel variation signal extracted from the nasal region of RGB-Thermal images can be used to achieve breathing rate (BR) measurement. However, this method fails when the nasal region is not detected in complicated motion scenarios. In this paper, we develop an RGB-Thermal imaging system collaborated with marker sticker to achieve unobtrusive and accurate BR measurement. Pixel variation signal of Regions of interest (ROI) is extracted from the thermal video and chest movement signal is extracted from the RGB video with the assistance of marker stickers. Subsequently, a custom-made time-domain signal processing approach is developed for determining BR. We further propose a method of splicing computation to measure the BR after separate processing of signal segments. We construct an RGB-Thermal video dataset with different head and body movements to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. After linear regression analysis, the determination coefficient (R2) of 0.905 has been observed for the estimated and reference BRs, indicating the feasibility of our proposed method in complex motion scenarios. © 2019 IEEE.
