image and video coding is fundamental to data storage and transmission. JPEG 2000 is the latest international image coding standard which exploits wavelet transform for image compression. Zerotree coding structure is an efficient algorithm for coding of wavelet transform coefficients. However, implementation complexity of wavelet transform and long coding process of zerotree structure may limit the application in some cases. In this paper, an idea of multilevel DCT-based zerotree image coding is proposed, in which Wavelet Transform (WT) is replaced by Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and DCT coefficients are regrouped into subbands of different frequencies. Furthermore, a new zerotree coding structure is proposed to reduce the complexity of zerotree coding process. A conventional zerotree with a parent-child relation of 2×2 offspring is expanded to the one of 4×4 offspring. Coefficients reorder and inverse DCT are needed when DCT transform size is not a power of 4. This expansion makes each parent node of zerotree coding structure have more child nodes and, therefore, reduce the complexity of encoding process. Simulation results of images with different spatial resolutions are presented to show the advantage of the proposed algorithm. The proposed multi-level DCT-based zerotree image coding algorithm performs similar coding performance as the SPIHT method. The zerotree coding structure with a parent-child relation of 4×4 pixels can significantly reduce the complexity of high-bitrate coding process without sacrificing image subjective quality.

To prevent the occurrence of burnout and karoshi,we try to detect and diagnose job stress in clinical practice using electroencephalogram(EEG).The EEG data were taken from 12 graduate students and 12 nurses from a third-grade class-A hospital,which two groups have the different job *** sampling frequency was 200 Hz,and the complexity of the electroencephalogram and its dynamic range were calculated based on Jensen-Shannon Divergence.T test value of the two groups was equal to 4.414 which confidence probability is 0.001,indicating the Jensen-Shannon Divergence value of students is less than that of ***,groups with different degree of job stress can be non-destructively and more easily diagnosed by the complexity of EEG data compared with blood samples,which is conducive to the evaluation,prevention and intervention of job stress and health promotion.

With the popularity of stereoscopic 3D (S3D) images and videos, many advanced objective quality assessment methods have been proposed to evaluate viewers' Quality of Experience (QoE). Among them, most algorithms take advantages of the disparity maps to extract useful features. On the other hand, deep learning has been one of the hottest research topics during these years, but limited efforts focused on the field in objective quality evaluation of S3D images. In this paper, we propose a S3D image quality assessment (S3D IQA) method based on deep learning. In this method, the Convolutional Restricted Boltzmann Machines (CRBM) combined with Factored Third-Order RBM (FTO-RBM) is considered as learning model to extract feature maps from pre-processed left and right images automatically. Then an improved traversal algorithm based on two pooling strategies is put forward to optimize extracted feature maps, which improves the final quality assessment performance significantly. Experimental results show that our S3D IQA method achieves good performance on 3D databases tested.

In this paper, we propose a new edge direction histogram (EDH) based on a structural similarity method for image quality assessment. We were motivated by the fact that the structural information of image can be described by the distribution of gradient magnitudes, as well as the one of edge directions. Therefore, we introduce the edge direction histogram to robustly represent the distribution of edge magnitudes and directions simultaneously. We further develop a distance metric to evaluate the quality of images by computing the structural similarity between EDH descriptors of the reference and the distorted one. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms some wellknown full-reference image quality metrics.

The EEG signal is an important tool for the diagnosis and prediction of epilepsy due to EEG containing a large number of physiological and pathological *** on alpha rhythm multi-channel EEG(electroencephalogram),this paper applied inner composition alignment(IOTA) algorithm to construct brain functional network and visualize the network *** is to apply the algorithm to calculate and analyze IOTA coefficient,the node average degree and clustering coefficient of epileptic brain network for studying if epileptic brain network is significantly different from those of *** results show that IOTA coefficient of epileptic brain network obviously differs from the normal by calculating T testing with SPSS software,which proved that the effectiveness of the algorithm to distinguish IOTA coefficient of epileptic brain network.

Smartphone is the superstar product in digital device market and the quality of smartphone camera photos (SCPs) is becoming one of the dominant considerations when consumers purchase smartphones. How to evaluate the quality of smartphone cameras and the taken photos is urgent issue to be solved. To bridge the gap between academic research accomplishment and industrial needs, in this paper, we establish a new Smartphone Camera Photo Quality Database (SCPQD2020) including 1800 images with 120 scenes taken by 15 smartphones. Exposure, color, noise and texture which are four dominant factors influencing the quality of SCP are evaluated in the subjective study, respectively. Ten popular no-reference (NR) image quality assessment (IQA) algorithms are tested and analyzed on our database. Experimental results demonstrate that the current objective models are not suitable for SCPs, and quality metrics having high correlation with human visual perception are highly needed.

In this paper, we propose a novel spatial error concealment algorithm based on adaptive linear predictor. The predictor automatically tunes its order and support shape according to local contexts. The optimal order is determined using Bayesian Index Criterion (BIC). The order-adaptive predictor is able to recover more important features or structures. Simulation results show that compared to the state-of-the-art error concealment algorithms, the proposed method gives better reconstruction performance in terms of objective and subjective evaluations.

Disparity estimation is an important technique in stereo video coding. This paper presents a disparity estimation algorithm based on edge detection. The algorithm makes full use of the human visual characteristics, that is, the human eye is more sensitive to the distortion of the edge region. Therefore, joint estimation is used for edge detection. The large code block size for coding the background region and the flat areas while small size for coding the edge region were used in this paper. Compared to the disparity estimation algorithm proposed in, the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the encoding speed of stereo video without affecting subjective image quality.

This paper presents a joint source and network coding scheme, called compressive network coding (CNC), for approximate data gathering in wireless sensor networks. Injecting the concept of compressive sensing into network coding avoids the all-or-nothing effect of network decoding, allowing CNC to achieve graceful degradation in data precisions when the energy budget is not sufficient. Based on the observation that sensor links are highly unreliable, we formulate the energy constrained multi-source, multi-hop, and multi-path transmission as a network utility maximization (NUM) problem. A practical distributed algorithm is developed to achieve the optimal utility. We carry out simulations over real sensor data. Results show that CNC consistently outperforms conventional network coding, achieving an average gain over 3.7 dB in data reconstruction PSNR. Furthermore, CNC achieves over 10 dB gain for five sensors (out of 53) whose readings contain abrupt changes.

Performance improved method for pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video coding system

Distributed video coding (DVC) is a new video compression paradigm based on two key information theories: Slepi-an-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv theorems, and it has the advantage of very lightweight encoder, high compression efficiency and inbuilt robustness. In this paper, pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video algorithm, which is a typical DVC scheme, is analyzed at first. Then a performance improved method for pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video coding system is presented. The proposed method, without sacrificing the encoder complexity, can calculate high quality side information using bi-directional motion estimation and reconstruct decoding frames using side information by joint iteration function based on Huber-Markov random field. Simulation results show that a better visual quality and 2dB average gain of Power Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) can be achieved with the proposed method at the decoder.
