Open Set Domain Adaptation (OSDA) copes with the distribution and label shifts between the source and target domains simultaneously, performing accurate classification for known classes while identifying unknown class samples in the target domain. Most existing OSDA approaches, depending on the final image feature space of deep models, require manually-tuned thresholds, and may easily misclassify unknown samples as known classes. Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) could be a remedy. Within an MoE, different experts handle distinct input features, producing unique expert routing patterns for various classes in a routing feature space. As a result, unknown class samples may display different expert routing patterns to known classes. This paper proposes Dual-Space Detection, which exploits the inconsistencies between the image feature space and the routing feature space to detect unknown class samples without any threshold. A Graph Router is further introduced to better make use of the spatial information among the image patches. Experiments on three datasets validated the effectiveness and superiority of our approach. © 2020 IEEE.

Reversible solid oxide cell (RSOC) demonstrates considerable promise in multimodal energy conversion architectures, particularly as a technology for hydrogen-based energy storage systems. Nevertheless, under dynamic operating regimes with time-varying current inputs, realizing time-efficient and reliable transitions to steady-state operation remains difficult. This difficulty arises from the intricate coupling of thermal, electrical, and gaseous processes within the RSOC system. This study aims to address these challenges by developing a 5 kW mathematical model of the RSOC system. The proposed model enables systematic investigation of thermal safety issues arising during current switching operations while introducing a thermal constraint control strategy to enhance both system efficiency and thermal safety performance. This efficiency-driven study employs the Grid Search algorithm to identify optimal steady-state operating points for the RSOC system, ensuring strict adherence to safety constraints across varying current inputs. Furthermore, by integrating the pre-identified optimal operating points as feedforward control with Model Predictive control (MPC)-based feedback correction, this hybrid strategy effectively mitigates stack temperature gradient overshoot while synchronously ensuring optimal system efficiency throughout current transition processes. Under simulated variable current inputs, the proposed RSOC system model and control strategy demonstrate the capability to constrain stack temperature gradient overshoot within 2.3K while enhancing transient efficiency by 5 %–8 %, achieving a peak system efficiency of 85 %. It provides a novel methodology for safe and efficient working with intermittent renewable energy. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

A Gaze-Guided Human Locomotion Intention Recognition and Volitional control Method for Knee-Ankle Prostheses

This paper presents a novel gaze-guided volitional control method for knee-ankle prostheses, designed to enhance the precision and intuitiveness of prosthetic control in complex locomotion tasks. The method utilizes an eye-tracking system coupled with an RGBD camera to estimate 3D gaze points, which are then used to construct a gaze attention map. This map serves as the basis for predicting human locomotion intentions, enabling the prosthesis to accurately step on the intended foot placement. Experimental validation was conducted with both a healthy subject and an amputee subject, focusing on level-ground walking and stair ascent tasks. The results demonstrated that the prosthesis could achieve precise foot placement, with a mean error of 1.22 cm ± 3.14 cm for the healthy subject and 3.40 cm ± 0.66 cm for the amputee subject during level-ground walking. In stair ascent tasks, the system successfully adapted to various gait patterns, with the prosthetic joint angles closely matching natural human movements. The proposed method also effectively reduced the root mean square error (RMSE) of 3D gaze estimation to 2.70 cm, 2.63 cm, and 1.97 cm along the x, y, and z axes, respectively. These findings indicate that the gaze-guided volitional control method not only enhances the functionality of knee-ankle prostheses but also offers a more intuitive interface for users, aligning prosthetic actions with the user’s visual focus and intentions. © 2016 IEEE.

In this article, the distributed interval observer design problem for a continuous-time linear time-invariant system with unknown external disturbance and measurement noise is revisited. By performing detectability decomposition for partial outputs of each sensor from the system matrix, a classical interval observer and an internally positive representation-based interval observer are designed for the detectable and the undetectable subsystems, respectively, which reduces the order of the resulting distributed interval observer. Furthermore, with a dynamic coupling gain on the communications among the interval observers, a completely distributed interval observer is designed without any prerequisite, except for the joint detectability of the partial measurements and the strong connectivity of the properly defined directed sensor network. Finally, after detailed analyses, the theoretical results were validated through numerical simulations.

Most proposed memristor-based circuits of associative memory consider various mechanisms in only one associative memory. Few works on circuit design of sequential associative memory have been reported. In this paper, a memristor-based circuit of sequential associative memory with memory interactions and stimulus similarity effect is designed. Two associative memories, the prior associative memory (PAM) and the later associative memory (LAM), are formed successively. The PAM modifies the rate of the formation of the LAM, and the LAM, in turn, affects the strength of the PAM, which are two interactions in sequential associative memory, called transfer and retroaction. In addition, the magnitudes of transfer and retroaction are determined by the similarity of the conditioned stimuli. The above functions are realized by the ring input processing module, memory module, transfer module and retroaction module. It has been identified in circuit analysis that the proposed circuit is power efficient and has good robustness. Furthermore, the proposed circuit has promising applications for fire rescue robots. © 2016 IEEE.

Consensus of nonlinear multiagent systems on time scales via event-triggered sliding mode control

In this paper, the tracking consensus of timescale-type nonlinear multiagent systems is investigated. First, the finite-time reachability of the designed integral sliding manifold is achieved through a discontinuous controller. Second, combining the proposed dynamic event-triggered strategy, sufficient condition for practical tracking consensus is obtained by constructing non-negative functions and applying inequality techniques. In addition, in combination with time scale calculus theory, Zeno behavior is excluded. The framework for sliding mode control (SMC) of timescale-type multiagent systems is constructed to generalize previous continuous-time SMC and discrete-time SMC results. Ultimately, the feasibility of the obtained theoretical results is validated through two numerical simulations.

Owing to their ability to effectively characterize the memory effect of magnetic flux, specifically in relation to the effect of external electromagnetic radiation, memristors have elicited widespread interest in the construction of neural networks with complex dynamics. This work proposes a novel memristive multiscroll multistable neural network (MMSMSNN), wherein multistable threshold memristors are used to describe external electromagnetic radiation effects. Numerical simulations show that the MMSMSNN can yield any number of cubic lattice multiscroll attractors by adjusting the internal parameters of memristors. Another highlight is that it can also be able to yield abundant initial offset boosting behaviors, i.e., different kinds of infinitely many homogeneous coexisting attractors, including linearly arranged homogeneous coexisting attractors, planar lattice-distributed homogeneous coexisting attractors, and cubic lattice-distributed homogeneous coexisting attractors. In addition, hardware experiments based on the CH32V307 microcontroller are carried out to demonstrate the numerical findings. Finally, a new secure medical image communication scheme is designed to investigate the MMSMSNN in practical applications, and performance analyses reveal its superiority and high security.

Thanks to the biomimetic properties of synaptic plasticity, memristors are often utilized to mimic biological neuronal synapses. This article presents a new memristor synapse coupling (MSC) approach for producing multidirectional multidouble-scroll attractors. Through adopting flux-controlled hyperbolic memristor synapses to couple a Hopfield neural network, a novel multidirectional multidouble-scroll Hopfield neural network (MDMDSHNN) is constructed. Theoretical results and numerical calculations indicate that MDMDSHNN is capable of producing any desired amount of multidirectional multidouble-scroll attractors, including unidirectional (1-D), bidirectional (2-D), and three-directional (3-D) multidouble-scroll attractors. Furthermore, an infinite amount of initial offset-boosted coexisting multidouble-scroll chaotic attractors possessing identical shapes but different positions, i.e., homogeneous extreme multistability are also found via switching the memristor initial values. Furthermore, to validate the physical implementability and practicality of MDMDSHNN, the digital hardware platform is performed. Finally, to investigate MDMDSHNN in practical application, an image encryption scheme with superior security performance is given by employing the homogeneous multidouble-scroll chaotic sequences, further illustrating good superiority and effectiveness of the present MSC method.

Micro-expression recognition (MER) remains challenging due to its subtle and fleeting nature. Existing methods often suffer from insufficient training data or rely on handcrafted features. Inspired by recent advancements in large language model fine-tuning and visual foundation models (VFMs), we propose HLoRA-MER, a novel framework that combines high-level low-rank adaptation (HLoRA) and a hierarchical fusion module (HFM). HLoRA fine-tunes the high-level layers of a VFM to capture facial muscle movement information, while HFM aggregates inter-frame and spatio-temporal features. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that HLoRA-MER outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving an F1-score of 84.24%\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$84.24\%$$\end{document} and 83.07%\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$83.07\%$$\end{document} on CASME II and SAMM, respectively, with only 197k trainable parameters. In recent years, the rapid advancement of automation control and intelligent sensing technologies has positioned autonomous driving as a focal point of interest for both academia and industry. As core equipment in modern construction and industrial production, engineering machinery urgently requires intelligent transformation. To promote the intelligent development of engineering machinery, we have designed an integrated intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system, which can be extended to various types of engineering machinery. For the specific mine dumping operation environment, we propose a multisensor fusion pose estimation algorithm framework based on the Global Navigation Satellite System, inertial measurement unit, visual cameras, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to address issues arising from sensor failures under harsh construction conditions. Furthermore, to ensure safety during task execution, we design a three-dimensional object detection method based on the optimal observation plane from LiDAR data. By integrating pose estimation and environmental perception results, we develop a comprehensive work planning and path-tracking algorithm to maintain task efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that our intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system performs excellently under various working conditions. The accuracy of its pose estimation, object detection, and path tracking meets the requirements of actual construction environments, showcasing its significant potential in engineering applications. © 2025 Wiley Periodicals LLC.
