Scalar field mapping has many applications including environmental monitoring, search and rescue, etc. In such applications there is a need to achieve a certain level of confidence regarding the estimates at each location. In this paper, a cooperative and active sensing framework is developed to enable scalar field mapping using multiple mobile sensor nodes. The cooperative and active controller is designed via the real-time feedback of the sensing performance to steer the mobile sensors to new locations in order to improve the sensing quality. During the movement of the mobile sensors, the measurements from each sensor node and its neighbors are taken and fused with the corresponding confidences using distributed consensus filters. As a result an online map of the scalar field is built with a certain level of confidence of the estimates. We conducted computer simulations to validate and evaluate our proposed algorithms. © 2013 IEEE.

Base on the the high performance requirements of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) speed servo system for non-sinusoidal oscillation control system of continuous casting mold, a global dynamic sliding mode(GDSM) control method is proposed, The reaching law of the sliding mode is designed by exponential fast terminal sliding mode(EFTSM) method and the controllers could effectively diminish chattering by designing the first derivative of control output which contains discontinuous function of sliding mode control; Considers the time variation of parameters perturbation and load disturbance of PMSM, a extended state observer (ESO) is constructed to observe the dynamic observation of total system perturbation and conduct feedforward compensation; theoretical analysis shows that the closed-loop system is global bounded stability; The simulated results show that the static and dynamic performance of the PMSM speed servo control system can be significantly improved by using the proposed method.

Using virtual reality computer simulation technology, by researching of the ethylene production process equipment and production process, Ethylene cracking plant modeling and simulation training system development were completed. Ethylene cracking device 3D modeling development scheme and process were introduced, which include the use of 3DMAX software for 3D modeling design, combined with the virtual reality software realization of human-computer interactive function design. Based on Virtual reality technology, 3D simulation system of ethylene plant was realized. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

On the basis of the analysis of ethylene cracking process, equipment, process control and operation conditions, using process control system simulation platform, Ethylene cracking plant DCS modeling and simulation training system were developed. Using continuous modeling method, combined mechanism modeling with test data analysis, DCS control system mathematic model was established, by which normal operation, start, shutdown process and accident treatment process were simulated. The online evaluating system was developed too, which supply a virtual platform for the training of ethylene cracking process. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper studies the stability of nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) based on sub-optimal solution obtained under reduced precision solution (RPS) criteria. NMPC needs to solve the optimal control problem (OCP) quickly and the input is injected into the controlled plant in time. Traditional convergence criteria in optimization algorithms usually cost excessive long computation time with little improvement of solution, which results in degradation of control performance eventually. RPS criteria are new convergence criteria for deciding whether the current iterate is good enough and whether the optimization procedure should be terminated. It can terminate the optimization process timely. This work gives the proof of the rps-NMPC's property. Simulations are done to analyze the effect of disturbance, especially when computational delay exists, on the closed-loop system controlled by rps-NMPC, and demonstrate that the algorithm owns good stability when disturbance exists. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Aimed at decreasing the tension variation during transforming process of "1+4" aluminum hot rolling mills unit in one factory of Henan, we analyzed the factors affecting tension variation and improved the tension formula of hot rolling mills process considering the influence of tension on forward slip value. The tension forming process of hot rolling mills from stand 1 to stand 4 is simulated, and the tension structure diagrams of the four-stands are constructed. Due to nonlinear characteristics of the aluminum hot rolling mills tension system, conventional PID controller could not meet the requirement of the system. So we proposed the mixed control of Cerebellar Model Articulation controller (CMAC) coupled with PID to solve the problem of online parameters control and we used Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize PID controller parameters. By simulation, it could be found that the using of PSO+CMAC significantly reduced surplus adjustment and transition time, and strip tension coupling degree among stands was also reduced. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Traditional batch model-based Collaborative Filtering (CF) approaches typically assume a collection of users' rating data is given a priori for training the model. They suffer from a common yet critical drawback, i.e., the model has to be re-trained completely from scratch whenever new training data arrives, which is clearly non-scalable for large real recommender systems where users' rating data often arrives sequentially and frequently. In this paper, we investigate a novel efficient and scalable online collaborative filtering technique for on-the-fly recommender systems, which is able to effectively online update the recommendation model from a sequence of rating observations. Specifically, we propose a family of online multi-task collaborative filtering (OMTCF) algorithms, which tackle the online collaborative filtering task by exploiting the similar principle as online multitask learning. Encouraging empirical results on large-scale datasets showed that the proposed technique is significantly more effective than the state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2013 ACM.

Object-level saliency detection is an important branch of visual saliency. Most previous methods are based on the contrast hypothesis which regards the regions presenting high contrast in a certain context as salient. Although the contrast hypothesis is valid in many cases, it can’t handle some difficult cases, especially when the salient object is large. To make up for the deficiencies of contrast hypothesis, we incorporate a novel spatial compactness hypothesis which can effectively handle those tough cases. In addition, we propose a unified framework which integrates multiple saliency maps generated on different feature maps built on different hypotheses. Our algorithm can automatically select saliency maps of high quality according to the quality evaluation score defined in this paper. The experimental results demonstrate that each key component of our method contributes to the final performance and the full version of our method outperforms all state-of-the-art methods on the most popular dataset. © 2013 CSREA Press. The hydraulic system's reliability is a key factor to ensure the reliable operation of equipment and it is very important to evaluate reliability of hydraulic system. The paper describes a reliability prediction method that may be used to evaluate the reliability of hydraulic systems for industrial applications. The proposed method takes advantage of fuzzy set theory. The aim of this method is to minimize the deficiencies of the traditional reliability prediction methods treating a failure rate as fixed value due to insufficiency practice data. Triangular fuzzy number and Gaussian fuzzy number are used in the application of this prediction method, where environmental factor, derating factor, and other factors are considered. Finally, an example of type crane's hydraulic system is given to verify the feasibility and practicability of the method. © 2013 IFAC.

In order to overcome the difficulty of constructing the multi-state system's reliability optimization model, and the shortage of premature convergence of PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm, a new reliability optimization method based on T-S fault tree and EPSO (Extended PSO) algorithm is proposed. According to the T-S fault tree and T-S rules of the events, the multi-state system reliability optimization model is constructed, at the same time, given constraint conditions on the system cost, weight and volume, and combined with the death penalty to construct the fitness function. Furthermore, EPSO algorithm based on the attraction and repulsion forces in the artificial physics is applied to the reliability optimization of multi-state hydraulic system. Comparing with PSO algorithm, the results of EPSO algorithm are in a better performance in obtaining global optimal solution. © 2013 IFAC.
