This paper addresses the task of learning periodic information using deep neural networks to achieve real-time, environment-independent sound source localization. Previous papers showed phase data is the most significant cue in sound source localization tasks and the proposed vM-B DNN was validated to be able to handle such periodic information using on synthesized data. However, they haven't shown its effectiveness and robustness in realistic use cases. This paper introduces a more complex model based on residual networks and adapts vM-B activation function for convolutional layers for use cases that require real-time predictions in dynamically changing environments.

Perching on the moving platforms is a promising solution to enhance the endurance and operational range of quadrotors, which could benefit the efficiency of a variety of air-ground cooperative tasks. To ensure robust perching, tracking with a steady relative state and reliable perception is a prerequisite. This paper presents an adaptive dynamic tracking and perching scheme for autonomous quadrotors to achieve tight integration with moving platforms. For reliable perception of dynamic targets, we introduce elastic visibility-aware planning to actively avoid occlusion and target loss. Additionally, we propose a flexible terminal adjustment method that adapts the changes in flight duration and the coupled terminal states, ensuring full-state synchronization with the time-varying perching surface at various angles. A relaxation strategy is developed by optimizing the tangential relative speed to address the dynamics and safety violations brought by hard boundary conditions. Moreover, we take SE(3) motion planning into account to ensure no collision between the quadrotor and the platform until the contact moment. Furthermore, we propose an efficient spatiotemporal trajectory optimization framework considering full state dynamics for tracking and perching. The proposed method is extensively tested through benchmark comparisons and ablation studies. To facilitate the application of academic research to industry and to validate the efficiency of our scheme under strictly limited computational resources, we deploy our system on a commercial drone (DJI-MAVIC3) with a full-size sport-utility vehicle (SUV). We conduct extensive real-world experiments, where the drone successfully tracks and perches at 30 km/h (8.3 m/s) on the top of the SUV, and at 3.5 m/s with 60° inclined into the trunk of the SUV. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

In recent years, most of the studies have shown that the generalized iterated shrinkage thresholdings (GISTs) have become the commonly used first-order optimization algorithms in sparse learning problems. The nonconvex relaxations of the \ell _{0} -norm usually achieve better performance than the convex case (e.g., \ell _{1} -norm) since the former can achieve a nearly unbiased solver. To increase the calculation efficiency, this work further provides an accelerated GIST version, that is, AGIST, through the extrapolation-based acceleration technique, which can contribute to reduce the number of iterations when solving a family of nonconvex sparse learning problems. Besides, we present the algorithmic analysis, including both local and global convergence guarantees, as well as other intermediate results for the GIST and AGIST, denoted as (A)GIST, by virtue of the Kurdyka-Lojasiewica (KL) property and some milder assumptions. Numerical experiments on both synthetic data and real-world databases can demonstrate that the convergence results of objective function accord to the theoretical properties and nonconvex sparse learning methods can achieve superior performance over some convex ones. © 2013 IEEE.

LiDAR-based global localization is a fundamental problem for mobile robots. It consists of two stages, place recognition and pose estimation, which yields the current orientation and translation, using only the current scan as query and a database of map scans. Inspired by the definition of a recognized place, we consider that a good global localization solution should keep the pose estimation accuracy with a lower place density. Following this idea, we propose a novel framework towards sparse place-based global localization, which utilizes a unified and learning-free representation, Radon sinogram (RING), for all sub-tasks. Based on the theoretical derivation, a translation invariant descriptor and an orientation invariant metric are proposed for place recognition, achieving certifiable robustness against arbitrary orientation and large translation between query and map scan. In addition, we also utilize the property of RING to propose a global convergent solver for both orientation and translation estimation, arriving at global localization. Evaluation of the proposed RING based framework validates the feasibility and demonstrates a superior performance even under a lower place density. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. This paper studies the evolution of an expressed and private opinion dynamics model with asynchronous updating. It is shown that under some mild connectivity and individual activation conditions, the expressed and private opinions of all individuals in the network converge to a common value exponentially fast when the susceptibility to influence of all individuals is equal to one. A numerical example verifies the theoretical result. © 2020 IEEE.

The service conditions of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) joints brazed with conventional filler metals (FMs) can be confined because few HEAs phases generate in the braze zone. In this study, a multicomponent CoCrFeNiNb0.5 eutectic HEAs (EHEAs) FM was developed to braze Al0.3CoCrFeNi HEAs in vacuum, the braze zone mainly consisted of face-centered cubic (FCC) and Laves lamellar structure, exhibiting a superior metallurgical compatibility with the Al0.3CoCrFeNi base metals (BMs). The shear strength and shear displacement of brazed joints reached 461 MPa/1.35 mm at room temperature (RT), 741 MPa/1.42 mm at -196 °C and 380 MPa/1.62 mm at 700 °C, respectively. This strategy can stimulate the fabrication and wide-temperature range applications of HEAs brazed components by exploiting the structural and performance merits of EHEAs FMs. © 2024, The Authors. Owing to large industrial energy consumption, industrial production has brought a huge burden to the grid in terms of renewable energy access and power supply. Due to the coupling of multiple energy sources and the uncertainty of renewable energy and demand, centralized methods require large calculation and coordination overhead. Thus, this paper proposes a multi-energy management framework achieved by decentralized execution and centralized training for an industrial park. The energy management problem is formulated as a partially-observable Markov decision process, which is intractable by dynamic programming due to the lack of the prior knowledge of the underlying stochastic process. The objective is to minimize long-term energy costs while ensuring the demand of users. To solve this issue and improve the calculation speed, a novel multi-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed, which contains the following key points: counterfactual baseline for facilitating contributing agents to learn better policies, soft actor-critic for improving robustness and exploring optimal solutions. A novel reward is designed by Lagrange multiplier method to ensure the capacity constraints of energy storage. In addition, considering that the increase in the number of agents leads to performance degradation due to large observation spaces, an attention mechanism is introduced to enhance the stability of policy and enable agents to focus on important energy-related information, which improves the exploration efficiency of soft actor-critic. Numerical results based on actual data verify the performance of the proposed algorithm with high scalability, indicating that the industrial park can minimize energy costs under different demands. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

The robotics community is increasingly interested in autonomous aerial transportation. Unmanned aerial vehicles with suspended payloads have advantages over other systems, including mechanical simplicity and agility, but pose great challenges in planning and control. To realize fully autonomous aerial transportation, this paper presents a systematic solution to address these difficulties. First, we present a real-time planning method that generates smooth trajectories considering the time-varying shape and non-linear dynamics of the system, ensuring whole-body safety and dynamic feasibility. Additionally, an adaptive NMPC with a hierarchical disturbance compensation strategy is designed to overcome unknown external perturbations and inaccurate model parameters. Extensive experiments show that our method is capable of generating high-quality trajectories online, even in highly constrained environments, and tracking aggressive flight trajectories accurately, even under significant uncertainty. A novel human–machine interactive training method for dynamic load change operation in air separation processes (ASPs) is proposed. A shadow operator (SO) is developed in this method to train ASP operators through industrial model predictive control (IMPC) and Bloom’s taxonomy. First, a nonlinear two-layer IMPC machine algorithm is developed for dynamic load change operation. The IMPC uses a linear parameter varying prediction model and an iterative multi-step linearization algorithm to compute accurate control decisions. Second, a hierarchical human–machine cooperation model is established to improve the effectiveness of operation training. The model is inspired by an educational psychology framework (Bloom’s taxonomy) and assists ASP operators in enhancing their dynamic operational skills. Finally, five dynamic training modes of the SO are designed based on the IMPC algorithm and the human–machine cooperation model. The practical application results demonstrate that the SO improves the effectiveness of skill acquisition for novice operators and the safety of dynamic operations. Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
