A Bayesian approach for joint beamforming and tracking is presented, which is robust to uncertain direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation in millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. The uncertain or completely unknown DOA is modeled as a discrete random variable with a priori distribution defined over a set of candidate DOAs, which describes the level of uncertainty. The estimation problem of DOA is formulated as a weighted sum of previously observed DOA values, where the weights are chosen according to a posteriori probability density function (pdf) of the DOA. In particular, we present a motion trajectory-based a priori probability approximation method, which implies a high probability to perform a directional estimate within a specific spatial region. We demonstrate that the proposed approach is robust to DOA uncertainty, and the beam tracking problem can be addressed by incorporating the Bayesian approach with an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. Simulation results validate the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Energy modelling for FDM 3D printing from a life cycle perspective

Advances in 3D printing is penetrating in many industries. It is changing the way of doing manufacturing business and people's life. Performing energy and related environmental impact analysis of this technology is necessary and profound. In this paper, energy modelling is studied for FDM printing from a life cycle perspective. For a typical FDM life cycle, the stages covered are material production, printing, post-processing and related transportation. For each stage, energy consumption is modelled and measures for unit energy consumption are also proposed to assist quick calculation of a life cycle energy consumption. Besides, the machines used in different stages are analysed and the main energy consuming components are summarised. Based on a sample part, preliminary calculation of its life cycle energy consumption is presented, showing that life cycle energy saving is possible, particular with collective efforts from different stages. This offers additional data to select an energy-efficient manufacturing process. Copyright © 2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Trajectory tracking of powered parafoil based on characteristic model based all-coefficient adaptive control

One of the primary difficulties in using powered parafoil(PPF) systems is the lack of effective trajectory tracking controllers since the trajectory tracking control is the essential operation for PPF to accomplish autonomous tasks. The characteristic model(CM) based all-coefficient adaptive control(ACAC) designed for PPF systems in horizontal and vertical trajectory control is proposed. The method is easy to use and convenient to adjust and test. Just a few parameters are adapted during the control process. In application, vertical and horizontal CMs are designed and ACAC controllers are constructed to control vertical altitude and horizontal trajectory of PPF based on the proposed CMs, respectively. Result analysis of different simulations shows that the applied ACAC control method is effective for trajectory tracking of the PPF systems and the approach guarantees the transient performance of the PPF systems with better disturbance rejection ability.

HCV is a hepatotropic RNA virus recognized for its frequent virulence and fatality worldwide. Despite many vaccine development programs underway, researchers are on a quest for natural bioactive compounds due to their multivalent efficiencies against viral infections, considering which the current research aimed to figure out the target-specificity and therapeutic potentiality of α, β, and δ subunits of amyrin, as novel bioactive components against the HCV influx mechanism. Initially, the novelty of amyrin subunits was conducted from 203 pharmacophores, comparing their in-silico pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles. Besides, the best active site of CD81 was determined following the quantum tunneling algorithm. The molecular dynamic simulation was conducted (100 ns) following the molecular docking steps to reveal the parameters- RMSD (Å); Cα; RMSF (Å); MolSA (Å); Rg (nm); PSA (Å); SASA (Å), and the MM-GBSA dG binding scores. Besides, molecular strings of CD81, along with the co-expressed genes, were classified, as responsible for encoding CD81-mediated protein clusters during HCV infection, resulting in the potentiality of amyrins as targeted prophylactics in HCV infection. Finally, in vivo profiling of the oxidative stress marker, liver-specific enzymes, and antioxidant markers was conducted in the DMN-induced mice model, where -amyrin scored the most significant values in all aspects.

An improved algorithm called active disturbance rejection generalized predictive control which combines advantages of active disturbance rejection control and generalized predictive control is proposed for time-delay systems in this paper to reduce the limitations of active disturbance rejection control(ADRC) in plants with large time-delay and improve the imperfections of generalized predictive control method such as huge computation and strong dependence on mathematical model. The method proposed in this paper can deduce the general solution to the Diophantine equations off-line without the system parameter identification because of the extended state observer. Hence, the online computation burden of this improved method is reduced typically and its application is enlarged. Simulation results show that this proposed design turns out to be a new solution for the large time-delay systems.

Dual-drive H-gantry is widely used in many industrial processes that require high-speed and high-precision Cartesian motion. Unlike the rigid-linked gantry design, the flexure-linked design is able to prevent the damage of the cross-arm because a small degree of rotation angle is possible. However, the flexure-linked design may induce the resonant modes of the gantry because of high frequency control signals. To maintain the precision tracking of two carriages and minimize the chattering of control efforts, we aim to seek the most suitable flexure joints among the available ones while optimizing the decentralized feedback controller parameters under model uncertainties. In this way, good tracking performance is achieved without costly system re-design. In this work, we formulate the mechatronic design problem as an H2 guaranteed cost control problem. All the stabilizing feedback controller gains are parameterized over a convex set, and the global optimum is obtained by means of an outer-linearization-based algorithm. In this paper, we consider a multi-user relay system where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) serves as a relay to transfer data from sources to destinations. The UAV cruises over the ground users and is capable of buffering users' data so that uplink and downlink can be scheduled independently. A throughput maximization problem is formulated, and a distributed power allocation algorithm is proposed based on alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to reduce the computational task and energy consumption of the UAV. Numerical results show that the proposed distributed algorithm converges to the centralized optimal one with a few number of iterations, and outperforms the uniform power allocation algorithm. © 2018 IEEE.

The optimal control problem of the closed quantum systems can be equivalent to the parameters optimization problem of bilinear control systems. Numerical optimization techniques such as time scaling transformation are introduced to the Gradient Ascent Pulse engineering（GRAPE） algorithm. The modified scheme can improve the fidelity, reduce the optimal evolutionary time and errors caused by the nonlinear hardware as illustrated in the numerical simulation of homonuclear optimal control.

According to the standard for the GSM for railway(GSM-R) wireless systems in China train control system level 3(CTCS-3),the control data transfer delay should be no larger than 500 ms with greater than99% *** of both non-redundant networks and intercross redundant networks and cases of single Mobile terminals(MTs) and redundant MTs on one train are considered,and the corresponding vehicle-ground communication models,delay models,and fault models are *** simulation results confirm that the transfer delay can meet the standard requirements under all *** particular,the probability is greater than 99.996% for redundant MTs and networks,and the standard of transfer delay in CTCS-3 will be improved inevitably.
