In view of the particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm's shortages of easily trapping into local optimum and premature convergence, an improvement research from the perspective of interaction mechanism among particles is made in this paper. Consider advantages and disadvantages of the current improved PSO algorithms from the aspect of force, the two-stage force particle swarm optimization(TFPSO) algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm, which employs staged search strategy to achieve a trade-off between global exploration and local exploitation abilities, divides search process into two stages and constructs corresponding force rules combining with the idea of attractive and repulsive forces in artificial physics. In order to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm in solving optimization problems, TFPSO algorithm is compared with some well-known PSO algorithms in reliability optimization for hydraulic system. Comparison results show that TFPSO algorithm obtains the best optimization results and enhances the performance of PSO in terms of accuracy of the optimal solution and local search ability.

Fuzzy PID control of Space Manipulator for Both Ground Alignment and Space Applications

Considering gravity change from ground alignment to space applications, a fuzzy proportional-integral-differential(PID)control strategy is proposed to make the space manipulator track the desired trajectories in different gravity environments. The fuzzy PID controller is developed by combining the fuzzy approach with the PID control method, and the parameters of the PID controller can be adjusted on line based on the ability of the fuzzy controller. Simulations using the dynamic model of the space manipulator have shown the effectiveness of the algorithm in the trajectory tracking problem. Compared with the results of conventional PID control,the control performance of the fuzzy PID is more effective for manipulator trajectory control.

In this paper, we propose a distributed algorithm for the dynamic economic dispatch problem (DEDP) in a smart grid scenario. Different from the static economic dispatch problem (SEDP), the DEDP aims at minimizing the aggregate operating costs of a group of generators over a time period with ramp rate constraints. The proposed algorithm is based on the average consensus algorithm on undirected graphs and the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Our algorithm is distributed in the sense that no leader or master nodes are needed, while all the nodes (generators) conduct local computation and merely communicate with their neighbors. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm converges to the optimal solution. © 2015 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

We address the problem of output stabilization for the class of nonlinear minimum-phase systems with a well-defined relative degree whose output is affected by measurement noise. In the proposed control structure the derivatives of the output are estimated by means of a new high-gain observer proposed in Astolfi and Marconi [2015], which, with respect to high-gain observers conventionally used in literature, has limited gain power. The advantage in using the proposed observer is in its implementation for systems with high relative degree and in the sensitivity to the sensor noise. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed control structure.

Prediction of chaotic time series based on interval type-2 T-S fuzzy system

Fuzzy model based chaotic time series prediction has been extensively studied. However, traditional type-1 fuzzy system, whose membership functions are type-1 fuzzy set, has its limitation in handling uncertainties. Type-2 fuzzy system, whose membership functions are type-2 fuzzy set, has more adaptable parameters and design degree of freedom, making it more powerful in dealing with nonlinear and uncertain problems. In this paper, the interval type-2 fuzzy system, whose fuzzy space is divided by mesh diagonal method and consequent parameters are adapted by the forgetting factor recursive least square method while previous parameters remain unchanged, is applied to modeling and prediction of chaotic time series. Finally, the proposed scheme is tested by prediction of Mackey-Glass chaotic time series in case of noise free and noise condition, the simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a higher prediction accuracy and is powerful in handling uncertainties. © 2014 by Binary Information Press

In this paper, we study the flow-level performance of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM)-based cellular network with underlay D2D, where the uplink cellular spectrum is shared by the cellular and D2D users. In specific, we formulate a coupled processor queuing system with two types of queues to model the flow-level system behavior, where the service rates are derived based on the stochastic point processes of user positions. Since the state space of the queuing model grows exponentially with the number of D2D users and cells, we use the model decomposition and iteration technique to derive its approximate steady-state solution and obtain the flow-level performance in terms of mean delay and energy consumption. Simulations are performed to verify the analytical results under different traffic loads. The proposed flow-level performance model has practical implications for the network deployment and parameter tuning with regard to D2D communications. © 2015 IEEE.

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) is of vital importance in the operation and control of power systems. In this paper, we consider the extended EDP that takes into account transmission losses and propose a distributed algorithm based on the average consensus algorithm and the bisection method. We assume that the total transmission losses can be represented by the B matrix loss formula, and the communication network between generators (nodes) is a connected undirected graph. A leader node is used to broadcast the total demand information by communicating with merely a small part of the nodes. Our algorithm is distributed in the sense that the nodes conduct local computations and communicate with their neighbors. Simulation results are given to show the performance of our algorithm.

By taking advantage of active radio waves, radar sensors can provide high-accuracy target detection over traditional passive sensors. In this paper, we study barrier coverage in bistatic radar sensor networks (BRSNs), which consist of a set of transmitter radars and receiver radars. Barrier coverage in BRSNs is much more difficult than that in traditional sensor networks as the sensing area of a bistatic radar depends on the positions of both transmitter and receiver, and is typically a Cassini oval. Moreover, different transmitters and receivers can pair with each other by choosing the same frequency and thus the sensing network topology can be quite different in different time slots. To tackle this challenge, we first investigate the characteristic of the ε-covered area of a bistatic radar, then we represent a bistatic radar with a virtual point at the middle point of the line segment formed by the transmitter and receiver. With these representations, we formulate the barrier coverage problem in BRSNs as (k, ε)-Minimum Weight Barrier Coverage Problem ((k, ε)-MWBCP). By constructing a directed coverage graph, we transform the (k, ε)-MWBCP into finding k node-disjoint shortest paths and propose an energy-efficient algorithm called (k, ε)-MWBCA to solve the problem within polynomial time. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm.

This brief presents a new distributed scheme to solve the consensus problem for a group of agents if neither their absolute states nor inter-agent relative states are available. The new scheme considers a random partition of agents into two subgroups at each step and then uses the relative group representative state as feedback information for the consensus purpose. It is then shown that almost sure consensus can be achieved under the proposed scheme in both discrete time and continuous time. For the discrete time case, almost sure consensus is achieved if and only if the weighting parameter for state update is greater than one. For the continuous time case, almost sure consensus is realized when the weighting parameter is positive. Moreover, it is shown that if a uniform probability is considered for group selection, then the group of agents can reach average consensus in mean. © 2014 Elsevier. Ltd All rights reserved.
