Along with the increasing prosperity of market economy and the growth of online retail, express shipping service (e.g. FedEx, UPS) is playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives. A thorough understanding of the network structure and the package traffic dynamics of largescale express shipping service network (ExpressNet) is essential for performance evaluation, network optimization, and user experience enhancement. Moreover, it would also be interesting and helpful to investigate how express shipping service reflects people's daily lives. In this paper, we propose systematic work to characterize and model the traffic dynamics in a nationwide ExpressNet. We collect 16 million delivery traces over 4 months in China, and examine its characteristics from a wide range of perspective, including network structure, temporal and spatial traffic dynamics, which provide important insights into express companies to better understand the network performance. On top of that, we develop an Extended Markov Model (EMM) to capture the dynamics of package delivery process and further predict the package delay, which is a major performance metric that both customers and express companies are concerned about. Data-based evaluation shows our model can achieve 91% prediction accuracy.

Data collection by multiple sinks is a fundamental problem in wireless sensor networks. Existing work focused on designing optimal offline algorithms provided that the number and positions of sensors and sinks are predetermined. This may not be practical as, though sensors are cheap, sinks are quite expensive in reality. A more practical scenario is that sinks are deployed step by step during the network operation due to the budget constraint, and we do not know the number, positions and capacities of sinks in prior. In this paper we investigate such an optimal data collection problem by multiple sinks, and design a near-optimal online algorithm via primal-dual approach, requiring very little priori knowledge. We theoretically derive the competitive ratio and show how to improve it by finding the optimal sink location region with an approximation ratio. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed online algorithm.

In this paper,linear active disturbance rejection control(LADRC) method is applied to design decentralized load frequency controllers(LFC) for multi-area power systems in deregulated *** can treat the connections between one area and the rest of the system and the effects of possible contracts as a set of new disturbance signals,and it can compensate quickly after estimating ***,it can achieve good disturbance rejection performance and be a good candidate for LFC *** proposed method is tested on a four-area power *** results show that the proposed design method is simple to apply in practice and can achieve good ***,anti-windup problem for LADRC needs to be further investigated.

Online Deception Attack Against Remote State Estimation

Security issue has become a new hotspot in cyber-physical systems (CPS) research field in recent years due to the vulnerability of CPS to security threats. This paper focuses on stealthy deception attack in remote state estimation, which is one typical attack in CPS. From the standpoint of deception attacker, we investigates how to design proper deception attack strategy to degrade the state estimation quality with communication rate constraint. We design an online attack strategy and prove that the proposed attack strategy can degrade the estimation quality. To study the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, we analyze the cost deviation, which depicts the difference between the estimation quality with and without the proposed attack strategy. Our results show that the cost deviation will be maximum when the communication rate is 0.75. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the main results.

Energy Based Set Point Modulation for Obstacle Avoidance In Haptic Teleoperation of Aerial Robots

This paper presents a novel obstacle avoidance approach that is capable of dealing with both static and dynamic obstacles in the environment with guaranteed collision-free navigation for haptic teleoperation of VTOL aerial robots. The proposed approach modulates the set point for the vehicle's controller based on the user input energy, estimated potential energy and vehicle's kinetic energy. By shuffling the potential and kinetic energy, vehicle's velocity is regulated according to the permissible kinetic energy and thus obstacle avoidance is achieved. With careful design of the potential field, this approach offers a guaranteed collision-free navigation with the presence of both stationary and moving obstacles. Incorporating the novel approach with the Dynamic Kinesthetic Boundary , the human operator can better perceive the environment where the robot is deployed through the rich spatial haptic cues rather than an onset gradual single force vector. Analysis is provided and proves that in the case of perfect velocity tracking of the slave system, the proposed algorithm can guarantee a collision-free navigation through the environment. Simulations and experiments were conducted, and the results provide verification of the effectiveness of the proposed approach in obstacle and collision avoidance for haptic teleoperation of aerial robots.

Economic dispatch problem (EDP) is an important optimization problem in power systems, aiming at minimizing the aggregate cost of a group of power generators, which cooperatively generate a given amount of power within their individual capacity constraints. In this paper, we present an average consensus based bisection approach for the EDP with quadratic cost functions, which is fully distributed and especially desirable in a smart grid scenario. Under the connected topology condition, we show that the proposed iterative solution converges to the globally optimal solution of EDP, without the need for a central decision maker or a leader node. Finally, numerical simulation based on the IEEE 14-bus system is given to show the performance of the approach.

Application servers (AS) of virtualized platform may suffer from software aging problem. In this paper, we first formulate the system model including three virtual machines. Two of them act as the main servers, and the third machine acts as the backup node. The motivation of our formulated model is that the relationship between the service provider and the service maintainer is collaborative as well as having different goals between them, the service provider as a leader wants to maximize his system availability, while the service maintainer wants to minimize his maintenance cost. Thus, the problem of maximizing availability and minimizing cost between the service provider and service maintainer is Stackelberg game based. Next, we assume that the AS degradation is caused by resource consumption due to memory leaks for the AS on the active VMs, and we present the system degradation states based on Markov renewal processes. We give the analytical definitions of threshold levels for R alert at each VM, which are used to determine the optimal rejuvenation schedules. In addition, we obtain the steady-state availability expressions for the system and the mean maintenance cost. Finally, we give the Stackelberg strategy with the open-loop information and the solutions for the game theory by a numerical illustration.

Integrated with low-power micro-controllers and sensors, RFID-based wireless rechargeable sensor node is a very promising platform for applications such as inventory management, supply chain monitoring etc. Among other major research challenges, one of the most essential problems in such wireless rechargeable sensor networks is how to minimize the communication delay among RFID readers and RFID-based rechargeable nodes. While the existing works have mostly focused on the collision avoidance among RFID-based nodes, in this work we study an orthogonal approach which focuses on how to optimally plan the movement of the reader so as to minimize the communication delay in the network. To solve this problem, we introduce both an optimal solution for the linear reader movement pattern and an approximation solution for the generic two-dimensional reader move pattern with a provable approximation ratio. In addition, we also provide a solution for guaranteeing the quality of communication while minimizing the communication delay. We verify our observations through testbed experiments and extensively evaluate our design by both emulations and large-scale simulations. The results show our design can effectively reduce communication delay in wireless rechargeable sensor networks when compared with baseline solutions.

This paper studies the cooperative localization problem of sensor networks using local angle-of-arrival measurements in two scenarios. (i) The angle-of-arrival information can be mutually measured by pairs of sensors in their local frames which do not share the same orientation; (ii) The angle-of-arrival information can not be mutually measured by pairs of sensors but their local frames share the same orientation. For scenario (i), a distributed localization scheme is proposed based on a simultaneous orientation consensus law. This localization scheme not only provides the true coordinates of all sensor nodes, but also offers the true orientations of local frames on the sensor nodes as a byproduct. For scenario (ii), a similar distributed localization scheme with diagonal scaling is developed without estimating the true orientations of local frames on the sensor nodes. Finally, simulations are provided to illustrate our results.
