In order to evaluate the goodness of frequency-hopping sequences, the maximum aperiodic Hamming correlation is used as an important measure. In this paper, based on generalized Gordon-Mills-Welch sequences (GGMW sequences) and generalized m-sequences (GM sequences), two classes of frequency-hopping sequence sets arc presented, which are optimal for maximum aperiodic Hamming correlation according to the aperiodic Hamming correlation bound.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) employing nested lattice codes is investigated in a downlink transmission scenario. The fundamental idea is the multiple access scheme via Compute-and-Forward framework, which produces an equivalent MIMO channel such that multiuser detection can be performed. Approaches including the successive lattice decoding of linear functions of transmitted messages by cancelling decoded equations and ML detection are investigated. Power allocation as a precoding scheme as well as an allocation strategy are proposed to deal with channel fadings and to enhance system throughput.

In this paper, a new bound on the frequency hopping (FH) sequences with respect to the size of the frequency slot set, the sequence length, the family size, and the maximum periodic Hamming correlation is established. The new bound is tighter than the Singleton bounds on the FH sequences derived by Ding et al. (2009) and Yang et al. (2011) and the bound derived by Liu and Peng (2013). © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

In this paper, performance of a Turbo Code (TC) and Vertical Bell laboratories Layered Space Time (VBLAST) encoded wireless link is evaluated in the presence of Rayleigh fading for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. Turbo encoded bits are modulated using QPSK or 16 QAM or 64 QAM modulator and modulated data are further encoded using VBLAST and then split into n streams which are simultaneously transmitted through n transmit antennas. Simulation results obtained show that coded MIMO system provides 17 to 25 dB coding gain for different combination of transmit and receive antennas at a BER of 10-3 compared to uncoded MIMO system. And there is around 2 to 8 dB gain for increasing number of transmitting antennas from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4. On the other hand, capacities for (2 Tx, 2 Rx), (3 Tx, 3 Rx) and (4 Tx, 4 Rx) are almost same from 0dB to 10dB but change significantly with increasing SNR from 10dB. © 2014 IEEE.

Load balance based relay selection and spectrum transition joint scheme

For load imbalance or hotspot coverage wireless relay network, an adaptive load balance relay selection and spectrum transition joint scheme was proposed. An interference capacity of the stations was also proposed, which reflects the interference to the surrounding co-channel stations. The interference capacity provides a quantitative interference metric to the surrounding stations on the capacity of the system. When a user requires to access the system, the system chooses a preferred access station and an alternative access station for the user according to the channel quality. If the preferred access station is overloaded and does not have enough resources for the user, the performance between accessing to the alternative station and accessing to the preferred station with spectrum transition from other stations in the same sector were compared, and a better way was choosen to maintain the good system performance. The simulation results show that the spectrum efficiency and blocking probability of the proposed scheme in the center cell are superior to that of the independent relay selection scheme and the independent load balance based spectrum transition scheme, and the average interference capacity of the proposed scheme is the lowest, which has less impact on the performance of the surrounding stations.

Full-duplex, massive antenna and higher frequency bands are core technologies of the fifth generation (5G) wireless communications to boost the throughput to satisfy the future explosively increasing demands of traffic volume. Unfortunately, the implementation of full-duplex is badly limited by the severe self-interference. In this paper, we propose a novel quasi-full-duplex scheme on the basis of separate transceiver arrangement and massive antenna beamforming to achieve future high reliable and efficient professional railway wireless communication systems. To obtain accurate direction of arrival (DOA) of the desired user for beamforming, real-time feedback link and novel reference signal (RS) distribution are designed to adapt to high-speed scenario. The theoretical analysis and numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme can dramatically improve the spectrum efficiency and transmission reliability, except for the scope nearby the eNodeB where the receiver of eNodeB is overwhelmed by its local signal. The complementary method that employs power control and higher frequency bands has settled this problem entirely.

Optimal energy-efficient path selection scheme in OFDM-based DF relay networks

Based on a three-node orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based relay transmission network and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying strategy, an optimal energy-efficient path selection scheme was proposed. By converting the fading values of both the relay and direct links into the equivalent path loss values, an optimal energy-efficient path selection criterion based on equivalent path loss exponent was presented. The effects of the circuit power consumption, bandwidth, data rate requirements and channel conditions on the system energy efficiency in the selection of transmission path were also analyzed. Simulation results show that the optimal energy-efficient transmission path depends on the bandwidth, data rate, and channel conditions, and satisfies the decision criteria of the optimal energy-efficient path. Comparing with the path selection scheme based on the maximum harmonic channel gain, when the distance between base station (BS) and mobile station (MS) equals 610 m, and data rates equal 5 and 6 Mbit/s respectively, the energy efficient values of the proposed scheme are increased by 11.8% and 40.5% respectively. ©, 2015, Science Press. This paper compares the performance of single user and multiuser with Walsh Hadamard spreading sequences for relay assisted wireless link as well as direct link. Space Time Block coding (STBC) is used for encoding the information at user's handset and relay. Input information are mapped using Walsh Hadamard spreading sequences and send to a QPSK or 16 QAM or 64 QAM modulator. Modulated symbols are encoded by STBC encoder and split into n streams which are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. Relay receives the Rayleigh fading effected signals where it decodes and forwards the signals for destination after further encoding using STBC. It is observed that there is around 9-12 dB coding gain for using Walsh Hadamard spreading sequences in multiuser system and there is around 11 dB coding gain for using relay in the MIMO system.

In order to enable reliable spatial multiplexing transmission, an environment with rich scatterers is often required, which is not equipped in most railway running environment. So the MIMO channel with sparse scatterer and dominant LOS component in high-speed railway scenario is usually strongly spatial correlated and often fails to support a multiplexing transmission link. While it is actually not a pure LOS environment even in open plain or on a viaduct according to the existing engineering measurements. Hence, in high-speed railway environment, it is still highly possible to support partial multiplexing transmission if configuring a reasonable antenna placement structure with adequate antennas along the train body in the future. To target this problem, this paper investigates the solution of reconstructing the highly correlated railway channel into an equivalent channel with less correlation using the method of principal component analysis and thereon proposes an optimal partial multiplexing transmission solution to improve the link performance. With the proposed solution, the capacity in the distant area from the base station is verified to be significantly improved and that in close distance area is maintained meanwhile the condition number is reduced to be less than 10 to meet the required link quality.
