Exploring Trial-and-Error in Deep Learning:Initial Application to Isotope Detection in Mass Spectrometry

Mass spectrometry plays a crucial role in biomedicine by detecting isotopes,contributing significantly to research,diagnostics,and therapy *** study introduces IsoFusion,a deep learning model designed to address isotope detection in raw mass *** than directly applying convolutional layers to all signal and noise peaks,IsoFusion employs a trial-and-error ***,it investigates all potential charge states(trials)and collects signal peaks around expected m/z values for each ***,convolutional layers extract features from each trial,which are fused to identify the correct ***,the reparameterization trick predicts isotope features based on this correct trial.A key advantage of IsoFusion is shared model parameters across all trials,enhancing feature learning for less common charge states using data from prevalent *** results show a significant accuracy improvement for charge state 5,reaching 99.42%,compared to DeepIso’s 43.36%.Moreover,IsoFusion achieves a 97.33%detection accuracy for isotopes,with 2.4%of detected isotopes previously unidentified by four commonly used methods.

Recent researches have proven that pre-training on large-scale person images extracted from internet videos is an effective way in learning better representations for person re-identification. However, these researches are mostly confined to pre-training at the instance-level or single-video tracklet-level. They ignore the identity-invariance in images of the same person across different videos, which is a key focus in person re-identification. To address this issue, we propose a Cross-video Identity-cOrrelating pre-traiNing (CION) framework. Defining a noise concept that comprehensively considers both intra-identity consistency and inter-identity discrimination, CION seeks the identity correlation from cross-video images by modeling it as a progressive multi-level denoising problem. Furthermore, an identity-guided self-distillation loss is proposed to implement better large-scale pre-training by mining the identity-invariance within person images. We conduct extensive experiments to verify the superiority of our CION in terms of efficiency and performance. CION achieves significantly leading performance with even fewer training samples. For example, compared with the previous state-of-the-art [9], CION with the same ResNet50-IBN achieves higher mAP of 93.3% and 74.3% on Market1501 and MSMT17, while only utilizing 8% training samples. Finally, with CION demonstrating superior model-agnostic ability, we contribute a model zoo named ReIDZoo to meet diverse research and application needs in this field. It contains a series of CION pre-trained models with spanning structures and parameters, totaling 32 models with 10 different structures, including GhostNet, ConvNext, RepViT, FastViT and so on. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. A comprehensive survey of visible infrared person re-identification from an application perspective

Person re-identification (ReID) is a significant issue in computer vision, aiming to match the same pedestrian across various cameras. Recent research on this issue has successfully reached a satisfactory performance level in the daytime scenario. However, the performance of ReID in low illumination scenarios suffers a dramatic degradation due to the insufficient personal information captured by visible cameras in low or no light scenarios. To address this challenge, the adoption of novel camera technologies for more effective pedestrian data is imperative. Owing to the constraints of distance and usage scenarios in deploying depth cameras, practical infrared cameras are frequently utilized, spurring research in visible infrared person re-identification (VI-ReID). Significant progress has been made in the field of VI-ReID in recent years, but only a few reviews have categorized this problem based on methodology. This article offers a novel perspective by classifying VI-ReID according to application scenarios. Following our categorization scheme, the main advancements in deep learning for VI-ReID over the past five years have been grouped into three categories as follows: retrieval of infrared images using visible images (V→IR), retrieval of visible images using infrared images (IR→V), and joint retrieval of infrared and visible images (V→IR and IR→V). Next, this survey outlines the available datasets and evaluation metrics. After that, we categorize diverse methodologies under the proposed classification and assess their performance metrics across common datasets. OGSRN:Optical-guided super-resolution network for SAR image

Although Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs)have significantly improved the development of image Super-Resolution(SR)technology in recent years,the existing SR methods for SAR image with large scale factors have rarely been studied due to technical difficulty.A more efficient method is to obtain comprehensive information to guide the SAR image ***,the co-registered High-Resolution(HR)optical image has been successfully applied to enhance the quality of SAR image due to its discriminative *** by this,we propose a novel Optical-Guided Super-Resolution Network(OGSRN)for SAR image with large scale ***,our proposed OGSRN consists of two sub-nets:a SAR image SuperResolution U-Net(SRUN)and a SAR-to-Optical Residual Translation Network(SORTN).The whole process during training includes two *** stage-1,the SR SAR images are reconstructed by the *** an Enhanced Residual Attention Module(ERAM),which is comprised of the Channel Attention(CA)and Spatial Attention(SA)mechanisms,is constructed to boost the representation ability of the *** stage-2,the output of the stage-1 and its corresponding HR SAR images are translated to optical images by the SORTN,*** then the differences between SR images and HR images are computed in the optical space to obtain feedback information that can reduce the space of possible SR *** that,we can use the optimized SRUN to directly produce HR SAR image from Low-Resolution(LR)SAR image in the testing *** experimental results show that under the guidance of optical image,our OGSRN can achieve excellent performance in both quantitative assessment metrics and visual quality.

Ambiguity Function Analysis and Optimization of Frequency-Hopping MIMO Radar With Movable Antennas

In this paper, we propose a movable antenna (MA)-enabled frequency-hopping (FH) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system and investigate its sensing resolution. Specifically, we derive the expression of the ambiguity function and analyze the relationship between its main lobe width and the transmit antenna positions. In particular, the optimal antenna distribution to achieve the minimum main lobe width in the angular domain is characterized. We discover that this minimum width is related to the antenna size, the antenna number, and the target angle. Meanwhile, we present lower bounds of the ambiguity function in the Doppler and delay domains, and show that the impact of the antenna size on the radar performance in these two domains is very different from that in the angular domain. Moreover, the performance enhancement brought by MAs exhibits a certain trade-off between the main lobe width and the side lobe peak levels. Therefore, we propose to balance between minimizing the side lobe levels and narrowing the main lobe of the ambiguity function by optimizing the antenna positions. To achieve this goal, we propose a low-complexity algorithm based on the Rosen's gradient projection method, and show that its performance is very close to the baseline. Simulation results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis on the properties of the ambiguity function, and demonstrate that MAs can reduce the main lobe width and suppress the side lobe levels of the ambiguity function, thereby enhancing radar performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Data-driven pre-trained language models typically perform shortcut learning wherein they rely on the spurious correlations between the data and the ground truth. This reliance can undermine the robustness and generalization of the model. To address this issue, data augmentation emerges as a promising solution. By integrating anti-shortcut data to the training set, the models' shortcut-induced biases can be mitigated. However, existing methods encounter three challenges: (1) Manual definition of shortcuts is tailored to particular datasets, restricting generalization. (2) The inherent confirmation bias during model training hampers the effectiveness of data augmentation. (3) Insufficient exploration of the relationship between the model performance and the augmented data quantity may result in excessive data consumption. To tackle these challenges, we propose a method of Smart Data Augmentation based on Large Language Models (SAug-LLM). It leverages the LLMs to autonomously identify shortcuts and generate their anti-shortcut counterparts. In addition, the dual validation is employed to mitigate the confirmation bias during the model retraining. Furthermore, the data augmentation process is optimized to effectively rectify model biases while minimizing data consumption. We validate the effectiveness and generalization of our method through extensive experiments across various natural language processing tasks, demonstrating an average performance improvement of 5.61%. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This paper proposes an improved high-precision 3D semantic mapping method for indoor scenes using RGB-D *** current semantic mapping algorithms suffer from low semantic annotation accuracy and insufficient real-time *** address these issues,we first adopt the Elastic Fusion algorithm to select key frames from indoor environment image sequences captured by the Kinect sensor and construct the indoor environment space ***,an indoor RGB-D image semantic segmentation network is proposed,which uses multi-scale feature fusion to quickly and accurately obtain object labeling information at the pixel level of the spatial point cloud ***,Bayesian updating is used to conduct incremental semantic label fusion on the established spatial point cloud *** also employ dense conditional random fields(CRF)to optimize the 3D semantic map model,resulting in a high-precision spatial semantic map of indoor *** results show that the proposed semantic mapping system can process image sequences collected by RGB-D sensors in real-time and output accurate semantic segmentation results of indoor scene images and the current local spatial semantic ***,it constructs a globally consistent high-precision indoor scenes 3D semantic map.

As a crucial auxiliary technique in inertial navigation, scene matching has been widely applied in aircraft navigation and guidance. To enhance the adaptability and efficiency of scene matching algorithms in complex environments, existing approaches have gradually shifted towards heterogeneous scene matching, such as optical/ infrared scene matching based on deep learning features, with a focus on point features. However, due to the complex and diverse nonlinear distortions between optical and infrared images, the matching accuracy often fails to meet the practical requirements of navigation and positioning. In view of this problem, an EPM-Net algorithm based on edge features is proposed to improve matching performance by extracting more stable and discriminative edge point descriptors. Experimental results on infrared datasets demonstrate that this method achieves an average matching accuracy improvement of more than four times compared to traditional and existing deep learning methods. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.
