Enhancing Graph Structure Learning via Motif-Driven Hypergraph Construction

Graph neural networks (GNNs), as a cutting-edge technology in deep learning, perform particularly well in various tasks that process graph structure data. However, their foundation on pairwise graphs often limits their capacity to capture latent higher-order topological semantic information. Thus, it is crucial to find a way to extract the latent higher-order information of graphs without missing the lower-order information of the original graph. To address this issue, we here develop a method to construct hypergraph based on motifs, and then a novel neural network framework, named MD-HGNN, is proposed for enhanced graph learning. Specifically, we first utilize motifs of the original graph to construct the hypergraph and eliminate nested structures within the hypergraph to prevent information redundancy. Subsequently, GNNs and hypergraph neural networks (HGNNs) are employed separately to extract the lower-order and higher-order topological semantic information of the graph. Finally, the lower-order and higher-order information are integrated to obtain an embedded representation of graph. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that MD-HGNN preserves the original lower-order graph structure information while effectively extracting higher-order features. Moreover, its performance and robustness are validated across different downstream tasks. © 2013 IEEE.

Dual Averaging for Distributed Unbalanced Optimization with Delayed Information

In this paper, we study a category of distributed constrained optimization problems where each agent has access to local information, communicates with its neighbors, and cooperatively minimizes the aggregated cost functions over time-varying unbalanced graphs. To address the considered problems, we propose a distributed dual averaging algorithm based on a row-stochastic weighted matrix (DDAR), which improves the robustness of network topology compared to conventional push-sum algorithms. Moreover, we develop a modified version of DDAR with delayed information (DDARD), which considers the delays of both network communication and gradient calculation, enhancing the algorithm's flexibility in communication and iteration. Our analysis demonstrates that the DDAR and DDARD achieve the optimal value at rates of O(N/(1-λ)√T) and O(τ2N/(1-λ}})√T}), respectively. Finally, the theoretical results are confirmed by simulation on a logistic regression problem. © 2015 IEEE.

The phase recovery method based on the Transport of Intensity Equation is widely used in the field of microscopic imaging of biological cells. When using this method for phase recovery, the CCD is always moved to acquire intensity images at different out-of-focus positions, which introduces mechanical errors, it also causes errors when using the traditional FFT method. Based on this, this paper proposes a phase recovery system based on refractive index change: firstly, an image acquisition system with a refractive index medium is built, and two intensity images with different refractive index are acquired;the intensity-phase equation based on refractive index change is established, and the "maximum intensity" assumption method is introduced to solve this equation. Then, we can obtain high-precision phase results without moving the CCD. In this paper, the feasibility and accuracy of this technique are confirmed by numerical simulation and optical experiment respectively. © 2025 SPIE.

To further accelerate the analysis of monostatic electromagnetic (EM) scattering problems of objects, an improved compressive sensing (CS)-based model is proposed. First, an orthogonal subspace spanned by the wide-angle induced currents is identified by means of the wide-angle incident sources. Then, the sparse transform of the induced currents is replaced by the subspace projection. In addition, an optimal number of measurements is determined, only slightly larger than the dimension of the subspace. Finally, the recovery algorithm is simplified to the least-squares method to solve the resulting overdetermined system. Compared with the traditional CS-based model, the proposed model significantly improves the efficiency of the recovery step and optimizes both the requirement for and the way of determining the number of measurements. © 2023 IEEE.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. For an integer s ≥ 1, let Cs(q0) be the generalized Zetterberg code of length q0s + 1 over the finite field Fq0 of odd characteristic. Recently, Shi et al. determined the covering radius of Cs(q0) for (Formula presented) (mod 8), and left the remaining case as an open problem. In this paper, we develop a general technique involving arithmetic of finite fields and algebraic curves over finite fields to determine the covering radius of all generalized Zetterberg codes for q0s ≡ 7 (mod 8), which therefore solves this open problem. We also introduce the concept of twisted half generalized Zetterberg codes of length (Formula presented) , and show the same results hold for them. As a result, we obtain some quasi-perfect codes. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The growing interest in generating recipes from food images has drawn substantial research attention in recent years. Existing works for recipe generation primarily utilize a two-stage training method - first predicting ingredients from a food image and then generating instructions from both the image and ingredients. Large Multi-modal Models (LMMs), which have achieved notable success across a variety of vision and language tasks, shed light on generating both ingredients and instructions directly from images. Nevertheless, LMMs still face the common issue of hallu-cinations during recipe generation, leading to suboptimal performance. To tackle this issue, we propose a retrieval augmented large multimodal model for recipe generation. We first introduce Stochastic Diversified Retrieval Augmentation (SDRA) to retrieve recipes semantically related to the image from an existing datastore as a supplement, integrating them into the prompt to add diverse and rich context to the input image. Additionally, Self-Consistency Ensemble Voting mechanism is proposed to determine the most confident prediction recipes as the final output. It calculates the consistency among generated recipe candidates, which use different retrieval recipes as context for generation. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, which demonstrates state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in recipe generation on the Recipe1M dataset. © 2025 IEEE.

Active Security Control for Networked Jumping Systems Under Asynchronous Dual-channel DoS Attacks: An HMM-based Approach

This paper aims to address the design problem of asynchronous controllers for networked jumping systems (NJSs), in which two communication channels are vulnerable to asynchronous denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. To this end, a hidden Markov model (HMM)-based active security control strategy is proposed to counter asynchronous dual-channel DoS attacks. Firstly, two maximum consecutive numbers are introduced to describe DoS attacks randomly initiated by adversaries. Subsequently, a mode-dependent predictor is designed to generate predictive states, which can be employed in the switched controller to stabilize the NJSs. Furthermore, sufficient conditions are derived by constructing Lyapunov functions to ensure the asymptotic mean-square stability of the NJSs under asynchronous dual-channel DoS attacks. Finally, a simulation using a space robot manipulator model is presented to validate the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed active security control strategy. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Microphone array techniques are widely used in sound source localization and smart city acoustic-based traffic monitoring, but these applications face significant challenges due to the scarcity of labeled real-world traffic audio data and the complexity and diversity of application scenarios. The DCASE Challenge's Task 10 focuses on using multi-channel audio signals to count vehicles (cars or commercial vehicles) and identify their directions (left-to-right or vice versa). In this paper, we propose a graph-enhanced dual-stream feature fusion network (GEDF-Net) for acoustic traffic monitoring, which simultaneously considers vehicle type and direction to improve detection. We propose a graph-enhanced dual-stream feature fusion strategy which consists of a vehicle type feature extraction (VTFE) branch, a vehicle direction feature extraction (VDFE) branch, and a frame-level feature fusion module to combine the type and direction feature for enhanced performance. A pre-trained model (PANNs) is used in the VTFE branch to mitigate data scarcity and enhance the type features, followed by a graph attention mechanism to exploit temporal relationships and highlight important audio events within these features. The frame-level fusion of direction and type features enables fine-grained feature representation, resulting in better detection performance. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. GEDF-Net is our submission that achieved 1st place in the DCASE 2024 Challenge Task 10. © 2025 IEEE.

Amplified emission and lasing enabled by high-Q quasi-bound states in asymmetric dielectric metasurfaces via eigenfield perturbation

Symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum represent a distinct class of nonradiative modes in continuous media. By introducing asymmetric parameters into a symmetric metasurface, the inherent symmetry can be broken, transforming BICs—originally decoupled from external radiation channels—into high-Q quasi-BICs with controlled radiation capabilities. However, manufacturing constraints pose a significant challenge in fabricating nanostructures with ultra-small asymmetric parameters, thereby limiting the achievable Q-factor. In this work, we propose an asymmetric perforated metasurface structure that supports BICs. When the perforations are shifted along the x or y axis to a specific position, the linewidth vanishes, and simulations confirm the emergence of a BIC in the system, with a quality factor reaching up to 10 9 . Furthermore, we demonstrate that selective eigenmode perturbation can effectively transform BICs into practical quasi-BICs. Notably, for the same structure, perturbing the weak-field region yields higher Q-factors, offering a flexible approach to optimizing performance. This approach enables precise Q-factor control and enhanced radiation properties. Furthermore, we design a laser cavity structure based on these quasi-BICs, achieving amplified emission and lasing with excellent agreement between simulations and theoretical predictions. These findings expand the BIC library and offer new methods for Q-factor manipulation, paving the way for high-performance optoelectronic devices such as nanolasers, biosensors, and nonlinear harmonic generators.
