CCA is a powerful tool for analyzing paired multi-view data. However, when facing semi-paired multi-view data which widely exist in real-world problems, CCA usually performs poorly due to its requirement of data pairing between different views in nature. To cope with this problem, we propose a semi-paired variant of CCA named SemiPCCA based on the probabilistic model for CCA. Experiments with artificially generated samples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © IFIP International Federation for information processing 2014.

Sign language recognition by 3D trajectory matching in frequency domain

For hearing-impaired people, sign language is a common communication means just like spoken language to ordinary people. Because most of ordinary people cannot understand sign language, it's difficult for hearing-impaired community to participate in social activities. This paper proposes an effective method for sign language recognition with simple 3D trajectory information to break down the barriers between hearing-impaired and normal persons. First of all, the 3D trajectory captured from Kinect is preprocessed, and both the trajectories from the probe and galleries is normalized by the size of the signer. Then the trajectories are resampled evenly by a fast, easy, and usable interpolation algorithm. Before matching of two curves, the trajectory of the probe is aligned to the gallery trajectory and both aligned trajectories are transferred into frequency domain by DFT, and vectors linking the real part, imaginary part and amplitude are obtained. Finally, Euclidean distance between two trajectories in frequency domain is calculated to evaluate the dis-similarity of two trajectory vectors according to the minimized distance. The experimental results on a data set of 239 sign words show that the presented approach is effective to recognizing isolated words of Chinese sign language. ©2014 ISCAS.

In this paper, we try to hybrid projection twin support vector machine (PTSVM) and Extreme Learning Machine(ELM). The experiments shows that ELM generally out performs SVM/LS-SVM in various kinds of cases. PTELM tries to use ELM to overcome the shortness of PTSVM, which lacks of flexibility to change nonlinear kernel mapping for complex samples distribution regions. In order to overcome the shortness of ELMs, we try to maintain the geometric structure of the samples distribution in the initial setting of ELM parameters by starting with an auto-encoder ELM, a sufficient condition for such kind auto-encoder ELM to keep the equivalence of topological homology before and after nonlinear mapping is proved by us. For an auto-encoder, in order to do feature abstraction and find the exact manifold in which samples are located, the number of inner layers nodes should be small enough. For this purpose, we prove that the whole samples set can be at least replaced by a small subset which located on the boundary of distribution region. For more, the weights are modified by a ELM approach to make samples of a class move toward this classs hyperplane found by PTSVM. The experimental results on several UCI benchmark data sets show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose a Generalized Unsupervised Manifold Alignment (GU-MA) method to build the connections between different but correlated datasets without any known correspondences. Based on the assumption that datasets of the same theme usually have similar manifold structures, GUMA is formulated into an explicit integer optimization problem considering the structure matching and preserving criteria, as well as the feature comparability of the corresponding points in the mutual embedding space. The main benefits of this model include: (1) simultaneous discovery and alignment of manifold structures; (2) fully unsuper-vised matching without any pre-specified correspondences; (3) efficient iterative alignment without computations in all permutation cases. Experimental results on dataset matching and real-world applications demonstrate the effectiveness and the practicability of our manifold alignment method.

The Gentzen systems for a sequent Γ⇒Δ have been proposed in the propositional logic, the predicate calculus and other logics. In this paper, based on the Gentzen system for the predicate calculus, we propose the Gentzen system for a sequent Γ⇒Δ in the description logic, where Γ and Δ are two sets of assertions in ALC: Assertions with universal qualification and inclusion assertions are decomposed as those of universal quantification formulas in the Gentzen system for the predicate calculus. It is proved that the Gentzen system for description logic is sound and complete; but it is not decidable.

Term translation is of great importance for statistical machine translation (SMT), especially document-informed SMT. In this paper, we investigate three issues of term translation in the context of documentinformed SMT and propose three corresponding models: (a) a term translation disambiguation model which selects desirable translations for terms in the source language with domain information, (b) a term translation consistency model that encourages consistent translations for terms with a high strength of translation consistency throughout a document, and (c) a term bracketing model that rewards translation hypotheses where bracketable source terms are translated as a whole unit. We integrate the three models into hierarchical phrase-based SMT and evaluate their effectiveness on NIST Chinese- English translation tasks with large-scale training data. Experiment results show that all three models can achieve significant improvements over the baseline. Additionally, we can obtain a further improvement when combining the three models. © 2014 Association for Computational Linguistics.

As the progressive effects of global warming, the yield loss caused by diseases and pests are increasing in winter wheat. It is necessary to distinguish different diseases for guiding variable rate spraying in wheat. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to quantitatively identify different diseases and fertilizer-water stress by specific sensitive bands selected from multi spectral data over a large area. Conversely, hyper spectral data contain more information, and provide the potential for quantitative identification of different stresses. This study focused on identification and distinction of yellow rust, powdery mildew and fertilizer-water stress by canopy spectral reflectance. Fifteen commonly used vegetation indices were selected, and independent t-test was done to get sensitivity index for each stress. Finally, a combination index was optimally selected to distinguish the three stresses. The results showed that the integrative index (NDVI-PhRI) combining normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and physiological reflectance index (PhRI) could be used to identify powdery mildew and yellow rust (PM-YR). A 2-dimensional spatial coordinate was established based on the NDVI and PhRI derived from hyper spectral data, then the different stress data were displayed in the spatial coordinate and the classification boundary could be used to identify the powdery mildew and yellow rust stress. Similarly, yellow rust and fertilizer-water stress (YR-n0w0) can be distinguished by the combination index (MSR-PhRI) derived from modified simple ratio (MSR) and physiological reflectance index (PhRI);and the combination index (NRI-RVSI) derived from nitrogen reflectance index (NRI) and red-edge vegetation stress index (RVSI) was accurate to identify powdery mildew and fertilizer-water stress (PM-n0w0). For the PM-YR, YR-n0w0 and PM-n0w0 models, their verification accuracies were 83.3%, 88%, 88.75%, and the kappa accuracies were 63.41%, 74.79%, 71.43%, respectively. It indicate

The multi-tier architecture is prevalently adopted by cloud applications, such as the three-tier web application. It is highly desirable for both tenants and providers to provide virtual networks in an efficient and elastic way, where tenant applications can automatically scale in or out with varying workloads and providers can accommodate as many requests as possible in the underlying network. However, due to potential conflicts between efficiency and elasticity, it is challenging to achieve these two goals simultaneously in abstracting tenant requirements and designing corresponding provisioning algorithms. In this paper, we propose an efficient and elastic virtual network provisioning solution called Easy Alloc, which is comprised of an elasticity-aware abstraction model and a virtual network provisioning algorithm. To accurately capture the tenant requirement and maintain the provisioning simplicity for providers, the elasticity-aware model enables two types of decoupling, i.e., Always-on VMs for normal load and on-demand VMs for dynamic scaling, and the bandwidth requirement of each VM for intra- and inter-tier communications. Then we formulate the virtual network provisioning as an overhead minimization problem, where the objective simultaneously considers the bandwidth and elasticity overhead. Due to the NP-completeness of this problem, we leverage two heuristics, slot reservation and tier iteration, to obtain an efficient algorithm. Extensive simulation results show that compared with a typical elasticity-agnostic method under a heavy load, Easy Alloc enables a 9% increase of request acceptance rate and a 16.8% improvement of the successful extension rate. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work targeting at the elastic virtual network provisioning.

Correct disulfide bond formation is essential for the activity and stability of numerous proteins of essential biological functions such as secreted signaling proteins and cell surface *** protein disulfide bonds typically requires a large amount of highly purified proteins,and much relies on arduous sample preparation and manual data *** we report a robust and sensitive method for identifying disulfide bonds in *** the new method,we successfully mapped all 74 disulfide bonds from a mixture often purified proteins and hundreds of disulfide bonds from an *** periplasmic fraction,a *** mitochondrial fraction,and human whole-cell *** biological experiments verified nine out of nine randomly selected,newly identified disulfide bonds in *** proteins.

The efficiency and performance of the Twin Support Vector Machines(TWSVM) are better than the traditional support vector machines when it deals with the problems. However, it also has the problem of selecting kernel functions. Generally, TWSVM selects the Gaussian radial basis kernel function. Although it has a strong learning ability, its generalization ability is relatively weak. In a certain extent, this will limit the performance of TWSVM. In order to solve the problem of selecting kernel functions in TWSVM, we propose the twin support vector machines based on the mixed kernel function(MK-TWSVM) in this paper. To make full use of the learning ability of local kernel functions and the excellent generalization ability of global kernel functions, MK-TWSVM selects a global kernel function and a local kernel function to construct a mixed kernel function which has the better performance. The experimental results indicate that the mixed kernel function makes TWSVM have the good learning ability and generalization ability. So it improves the performance of TWSVM.
