Human beings not only have the ability to recognize novel unseen classes, but also can incrementally incorporate the new classes to existing knowledge preserved. However, zero-shot learning models assume that all seen classes should be known beforehand, while incremental learning models cannot recognize unseen classes. This paper introduces a novel and challenging task of Incrementally Zero-Shot Detection (IZSD), a practical strategy for both zero-shot learning and class-incremental learning in real-world object detection. An innovative end-to-end model - IZSD-EVer was proposed to tackle this task that requires incrementally detecting new classes and detecting the classes that have never been seen. Specifically, we propose a novel extreme value analyzer to detect objects from old seen, new seen, and unseen classes, simultaneously. Additionally and technically, we propose two innovative losses, i.e., background-foreground mean squared error loss alleviating the extreme imbalance of the background and foreground of images, and projection distance loss aligning the visual space and semantic spaces of old seen classes. Experiments demonstrate the efficacy of our model in detecting objects from both the seen and unseen classes, outperforming the alternative models on Pascal VOC and MSCOCO datasets.

Ontology is the kernel technique of semantic web, which can be used to describe the concepts and their relationships in a particular domain. However, different domain experts would construct the ontologies according to different requirements, and there exists a heterogeneity problem among the ontologies, which hinders the interaction between ontology-based intelligent systems. Ontology matching technique can determine the links between heterogeneous concepts, which is an effective method for solving this problem. Semantic similarity measure is a function to calculate to what extent two concepts are similar to each other, which is the key component of ontology matching technique. Generally, multiple semantic similarity measures are used together to improve the accuracy of the concept recognition. How to combine these semantic similarity measures, i.e., the ontology meta-matching problem, is a challenge in the ontology matching domain. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a new ontology meta-matching technique, which applies a novel combination framework to aggregate two broad categories of similarity measures. The experiment uses the famous benchmark provided by the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI). One of the critical challenges of object counting is the dramatic scale variations, which is introduced by arbitrary perspectives. We propose a reverse perspective network to solve the scale variations of input images, instead of generating perspective maps to smooth final outputs. The reverse perspective network explicitly evaluates the perspective distortions, and efficiently corrects the distortions by uniformly warping the input images. Then the proposed network delivers images with similar instance scales to the regressor. Thus the regression network doesn't need multi-scale receptive fields to match the various scales. Besides, to further solve the scale problem of more congested areas, we enhance the corresponding regions of ground-truth with the evaluation errors. Then we force the regressor to learn from the augmented ground-truth via an adversarial process. Furthermore, to verify the proposed model, we collected a vehicle counting dataset based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The proposed dataset has fierce scale variations. Extensive experimental results on four benchmark datasets show the improvements of our method against the state-of-the-arts.

A novel C-bandpass frequency selective surface(FSS) exhibiting miniaturized periodic parts is developed in this study. Such FSS acts as a bandpass filter at 4.03--7.87GHz. The proposed FSS exhibits miniaturization characteristics with the unit-cell dimension 0.12λ*0.12λ and the total thickness less than λ/28. Meantime, the simulation results reveal that the second-order FSS exhibits better stability under a variety of incident directions and polarization modes.

The state of the art person search methods separate person search into detection and re-ID stages, but ignore the consistency between these two stages. The general person detector has no special attention on the query target; The re-ID model is trained on hand-drawn bounding boxes which are not available in person search. To address the consistency problem, we introduce a Task-Consist Two-Stage (TCTS) person search framework, includes an identity-guided query (IDGQ) detector and a Detection Results Adapted (DRA) re-ID model. In the detection stage, the IDGQ detector learns an auxiliary identity branch to compute query similarity scores for proposals. With consideration of the query similarity scores and foreground score, IDGQ produces query-like bounding boxes for the re-ID stage. In the re-ID stage, we predict identity labels of detected bounding boxes, and use these examples to construct a more practical mixed train set for the DRA model. Training on the mixed train set improves the robustness of the re-ID stage to inaccurate detection. We evaluate our method on two benchmark datasets, CUHK-SYSU and PRW. Our framework achieves 93.9% of mAP and 95.1% of rank1 accuracy on CUHK-SYSU, outperforming the previous state of the art methods.

Point clouds contain rich spatial information, which provides complementary cues for gesture recognition. In this paper, we formulate gesture recognition as an irregular sequence recognition problem and aim to capture long-term spatial correlations across point cloud sequences. A novel and effective PointLSTM is proposed to propagate information from past to future while preserving the spatial structure. The proposed PointLSTM combines state information from neighboring points in the past with current features to update the current states by a weight-shared LSTM layer. This method can be integrated into many other sequence learning approaches. In the task of gesture recognition, the proposed PointLSTM achieves state-of-the-art results on two challenging datasets (NVGesture and SHREC'17) and outperforms previous skeleton-based methods. To show its advantages in generalization, we evaluate our method on MSR Action3D dataset, and it produces competitive results with previous skeleton-based methods.

Conversational recommender systems (CRS) aim to capture user's current intentions and provide recommendations through real-time multi-turn conversational interactions. As a human-machine interactive system, it is essential for CRS to improve the user experience. However, most CRS methods neglect the importance of user experience. In this paper, we propose two key points for CRS to improve the user experience: (1) Speaking like a human, human can speak with different styles according to the current dialogue context. (2) Identifying fine-grained intentions, even for the same utterance, different users have diverse finegrained intentions, which are related to users' inherent preference. Based on the observations, we propose a novel CRS model, coined Customized Conversational Recommender System (CCRS), which customizes CRS model for users from three perspectives. For human-like dialogue services, we propose multi-style dialogue response generator which selects context-aware speaking style for utterance generation. To provide personalized recommendations, we extract user's current fine-grained intentions from dialogue context with the guidance of user's inherent preferences. Finally, to customize the model parameters for each user, we train the model from the meta-learning perspective. Extensive experiments and a series of analyses have shown the superiority of our CCRS on both the recommendation and dialogue service. © 2022, CC BY-SA.

Extracting summaries from long documents can be regarded as sentence classification using the structural information of the documents. How to use such structural information to summarize a document is challenging. In this paper, we propose GoSum, a novel graph and reinforcement learning based extractive model for long-paper summarization. In particular, GoSum encodes sentence states in reinforcement learning by building a heterogeneous graph for each input document at different discourse levels. An edge in the graph reflects the discourse hierarchy of a document for restraining the semantic drifts across section boundaries. We evaluate GoSum on two datasets of scientific articles summarization: PubMed and arXiv. The experimental results have demonstrated that GoSum achieve state-of-the-art results compared with strong baselines of both extractive and abstractive models.
