Social tagging systems have been widely used as a way to annotate and categorize Web resources. However, users often use unrestricted vocabulary to tag and describe resources. On the contrast, annotators of Web documents may use very different words to describe the same concept. In the past few years, numerous personalized query expansion methods have been proposed to tackle the vocabulary mismatch problem. Many of them are based on the probabilistic-based techniques or graph-based techniques, but they ignored the multi-relational characteristics existed in the social data. In this paper, we explore multiple semantic relationships from social tagging systems, including relationships between tags, between words and between tags and words. Three affinity graphs are built based on the features derived from tags and words. In addition, we incorporate pseudo-relevance feedback information obtained from top-ranked documents to regularize the smoothness of multiple associations over the three affinity graphs. The key of this paper is considering above three affinity graphs into a novel query expansion model and aim to produce better personalized search results. Experiments conducted on a real-world dataset validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Search personalization that considers the social dimension of the web has attracted a significant volume of research in recent years. A user profile is usually needed to represent a user's interests in order to tailor future searches. Previous research has typically constructed a profile solely from a user's usage information. When the user has only limited activities in the system, the effect of the user profile on search is also constrained. This research addresses the setting where a user has only a limited amount of usage information. We build enhanced user profiles from a set of annotations and resources that users have marked, together with an external knowledge base constructed according to usage histories. We present two probabilistic latent topic models to simultaneously incorporate social annotations, documents and the external knowledge base. Our web search strategy is achieved using personalized social query expansion. We introduce a topical query expansion model to enhance the search by utilizing individual user profiles. The proposed approaches have been intensively evaluated on a large public social annotation dataset. Results show that our models significantly outperformed existing personalized query expansion methods which use user profiles solely built from past usage information in personalized search. © 2016 Association for Computational Linguistics

One of the defining challenges in patent prior-art search is the problem of representing a long, technical document as a query. Previously work on this problem has concentrated on single query representations of the patent application. In the following paper, we describe an approach which uses multiple query representations generated from semantically coherent passages extracted from patent documents. We validate our technique in an experiment using the CLEF-IP 2011 patent search collection. Our system achieves statistically significant improvements over various state-of-art query generation techniques.

Cross-language information retrieval research has favored system-centered approaches in the past. The user is not an integral part of the translation and retrieval processes. In this paper, we investigate the problem of personalized cross-language information retrieval by exploiting query expansion techniques. The original query is augmented with terms mined from the user's historical usage information in one language, with the aim of retrieving more relevant results in another language. Experiments semi-automatically constructed by using bilingual Wikipedia documents showed that in general personalized approaches work better than non-personalized approaches. We also found that an individual user model generated from one language can be used to enhance the personalized cross-language information retrieval.

A locking mechanism for distributed database systems

To overcome the disadvantages of the traditional locking mechanism for Distributed Database Systems (DDBS), such as the low transaction concurrency and the high communication costs, this paper studies the traditional mechanism with Two-phase Locking (2PL) protocol, and redefines the lock types and their compatibility matrix in DDBS, designs the structure of the Lock Table, improves the lock policy and the lock algorithm. Those make up of a new locking mechanism for DDBS. The experimental results show that this mechanism can intensively control and flexibly manage the requirements for locks with improved 2PL protocol and multi-granularity locking, and effectively ensure serializing scheduling of transactions and decrease the costs of communications while locking. It obtains the better transaction concurrency than the traditional mechanism. © 2014 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

Effective workflow scheduling can improve the performance of workflow systems. Based on our previous works related to supporting instance aspect handling in workflows, this paper further studies the time-cost trade-off optimization problem of grouping and scheduling multiple workflow activity instances with the objectives of minimum acitity instances' total dwelling time and minimum acitity instances' total cost under multiple constraints. Its mathematic model is constructed and a scheduling optimizatin algorithm named PACO-TC is proposed. The result of simulation experiment shows its effectiveness.

This paper investigates how to use diversity introduction methods to enhance the dynamic evolutionary multiobjective optimization algorithms in dealing with dynamic multiobjective optimization problems (DMOPs). Although diversity introduction method is easy used to response to the dynamic change, current diversity introduction methods still have a difficulty in identifying the correct proportion of diversity introduction. To overcome this difficulty, this paper proposes an adaptive diversity introduction (ADI) method. Specifically, the proportion of diversity introduction can be dynamically adjusted rather than being hand designed and fixed in advance. In addition, an adaptive relocation operator is designed to adapt the evolving individuals to the new environmental condition. The effectiveness of the ADI method is validated against various diversity introduction methods upon five DMOPs test problems. The simulation results show that the proposed ADI has better robustness and total performance than other diversity introduction methods.

Integrating local and partial network view for routing on scale-free networks

Traditional routing schemes,such as OSPF,optimize data plane routing efciency by maintaining full view of the network at the control ***,maintaining full network view and handling frequent routing information updates are costly in large-scale complex networks,which are considered to be the root causes for the routing scalability ***,it is suggested that routing on local or partial information is plausible if slight performance degradation is *** paper proposes a routing scheme,operating on an integrated network view at each node that consists of its local neighborhood and a globally unique skeleton *** scheme signifcantly reduces storage,communication and processing *** scale-free networks,this beneft only comes at the cost of marginal performance degradation,which implies that it is not worthwhile to do shortest path routing based on full view of the network on scale-free *** contrast,the routing efciency is severely aggravated on purely random networks,indicating the inappropriateness of this scheme and the rationality of maintaining full network view on random networks.

This paper proposes a new business model named social acquaintance network oriented group buying. It focuses on the social acquaintance networks of consumers and makes consumers as "sales agents" that can initialize transactions of group buying and acquire their acquaintances to join in. Two key technical problems it brought are identified and analyzed. To solve them, a collaborative filtering based recommendation method and a workflow based execution framework are also proposed.

Traditional technologies for enterprise applications integration (EAI), such as CORBA and EJB/DCOM component or middleware, can not be handily extended in the systems for dynamic business requirements. To solve the problem, using the principle of service-oriented architecture (SOA), an EAI framework based on web services and its interfaces are designed. The framework is extensible to dynamic business requirement, and achieves well heterogeneous datum sharing and integration of application systems in enterprises. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
