Bandwidth smoothing can increase the utility of network bandwidth by reducing the burstiness of a VBR (variable bit rate) video stream. To guarantee the quality of service of video-on-command service in home network, data transmission rate should not exceed the maximum data handling capacity of embedded terminals. This paper designs a streaming media system in home network, and puts forward a smoothing algorithm based on greedy algorithm for transmitting VBR video streams subjected to maximum data transmitting rate. The presented algorithm can decrease startup delay of streaming and meet the demand of client buffering requirement under the constraint of maximum transmission rate. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented algorithm.

With wider application of P2P-based Media Delivery network (P2P-based MDN), much work has been done to improve the system' performance and efficiency in the process of media contents sharing. In this paper, we first propose a specific partially observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) model for admission control of P2P-based MDN. Based on this model, we provide the observation-based randomized policy to conduct admission control and optimize the policy by applying policy-gradient algorithm. Observation-based policy can promote the system's performance in real time aspect and policy optimizing can increase the accuracy of controller's judgments based on partial information. Admission strategy in the paper can save the cost in operating the system for media service providers. Bandwidth allocation policy is designed to reduce service delay and provide high-quality service. The comparison results of system's performances under different policies indicate that, partial service can utilize the system's resource in a better way.

With the rapid increasing popularity of web video, video copy detection (VCD) has become a hot research field in content-based video retrieval. Many efforts have been carried out to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of copy detection. In order to solve two challenging problems: video feature extraction and fast search in large database, a novel efficient video copy detection approach was proposed in this paper. A compact video signature was computed based on spatial-temporal features of video sequences. The video similarity is measured by the distance of video signature. For the scalable computing requirement, a new search method via clustering index table was presented by index clustering. The experimental results from query tests in large database show this method is efficient with high recall and precision rate.

This paper presents a hybrid navigation and control method for intelligent wheelchair. A robust and semi-supervised vision tracking method using Microsoft Kinect and obstacle avoidance navigation approach are integrated into a two-level controlsystem. Then, position tracking control considering nonholonomic constraints are adopted for the motion control of wheelchairs. An indoor environment is set up for evaluating the application of the proposed approaches. The experimental results show that the proposed method is effective and can be used as a hands-free controller for the intelligent wheelchair.
