We have witnessed remarkable progress in foundation models in vision tasks. Currently, several recent works have utilized the segmenting anything model (SAM) to boost the segmentation performance in medical images, where most of them focus on training an adaptor for fine-tuning a large amount of pixel-wise annotated medical images following a fully supervised manner. In this paper, to reduce the labeling cost, we investigate a novel weakly-supervised SAM-based segmentation model, namely WeakMedSAM. Specifically, our proposed WeakMedSAM contains two modules: 1) to mitigate severe co-occurrence in medical images, a sub-class exploration module is introduced to learn accurate feature representations. 2) to improve the quality of the class activation maps, our prompt affinity mining module utilizes the prompt capability of SAM to obtain an affinity map for random-walk refinement. Our method can be applied to any SAM-like backbone, and we conduct experiments with SAMUS and EfficientSAM. The experimental results on three popularly-used benchmark datasets, i.e., BraTS 2019, AbdomenCT-1K, and MSD Cardiac dataset, show the promising results of our proposed WeakMedSAM. AMHF-TP: Multifunctional therapeutic peptides prediction based on multi-granularity hierarchical features

Multifunctional therapeutic peptides(MFTP) hold immense potential in diverse therapeutic contexts, yet their prediction and identification remain challenging due to the limitations of traditional methodologies, such as extensive training durations, limited sample sizes, and inadequate generalization capabilities. To address these issues, we present AMHF-TP, an advanced method for MFTP recognition that utilizes attention mechanisms and multi-granularity hierarchical features to enhance performance. The AMHF-TP is composed of four key components: a migration learning module that leverages pretrained models to extract atomic compositional features of MFTP sequences; a convolutional neural network and selfattention module that refine feature extraction from amino acid sequences and their secondary structures; a hypergraph module that constructs a hypergraph for complex similarity representation between MFTP sequences; and a hierarchical feature extraction module that integrates multimodal peptide sequence features. Compared with leading methods,the proposed AMHF-TP demonstrates superior precision, accuracy, and coverage, underscoring its effectiveness and robustness in MFTP recognition. The comparative analysis of separate hierarchical models and the combined model, as well as with five contemporary models, reveals AMHF-TP's exceptional performance and stability in recognition tasks.

EVPIR: Efficient and Verifiable Privacy-Preserving Image Retrieval in Cloud-assisted Internet of Things

With the proliferation of mobile devices and the advancement of cloud computing capabilities, cloud-assisted Internet of Things (IoT) attracts increased attention based on its computational and storage advantages. Upon these conveniences, there also raises privacy concerns that numerous solutions have been proposed to solve it. However, existing methods suffer from challenges such as low retrieval accuracy, inefficiency in large-scale image retrieval, and lack of efficient result verification. In this paper, we propose an Efficient Verifiable Privacy-preserving Image Retrieval scheme (EVPIR). Specifically, we design a hierarchical graph index to significantly enhance retrieval efficiency, which organizes image feature vectors into a multi-level structure, establishing connections between neighboring nodes within each layer and creating a highly structured and efficient retrieval framework. During the retrieval process, we employ greedy search algorithm to navigate these connections and identify the closest neighbors across different levels, which make the proposed multi-level approach reduce the search space at each level, achieving faster and more accurate retrieval. Furthermore, we design an efficient dynamic verifiable framework leveraging Chameleon hash functions and BLS signatures where we utilize Chameleon hash nodes based on Merkle Hash Trees (MHT) to enable dynamic updates of the verification tree and employ BLS signatures to construct multiple verification nodes for effectively shortening the verification path. Finally, security analysis shows that EVPIR can defend various threat models and extensive experiments further demonstrates that EVPIR can improve retrieval and verification efficiency. Throughput-optimal dynamic broadcasting is an essential cornerstone for the efficient operation of Multi-hop Wireless networks (MWNs). Most existing algorithms for this problem were developed assuming static interference environments and network connectivity. However, wireless interference environments and network connectivity are inherently time-varying in real-world scenarios, primarily due to uncontrollable interference sources and unreliable links. Such time-varying characteristics make these existing algorithms less robust. In this paper, we study the robust throughput-optimal dynamic broadcasting for MWNs with multi-dimensional time-varying characteristics in terms of interference environments, network connectivity, and data arrival. We model the time-varying link existence states using a random process and characterize the time-varying interference environments through a dynamic variant of the classical Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise-Ratio (SINR) model. In this variant, the SINR model parameters are dynamically adjusted over time by an adversary. Based on this, we first design a Robust Throughput-optimal Dynamic Broadcast (RTDB) algorithm which makes efficient slot-based max-weight link scheduling, power allocation, and data forwarding decisions in each time slot. We then prove its throughput-optimality in time-varying acyclic directed MWNs under the dynamic SINR model. The effectiveness of RTDB is validated via numerous simulations. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, research has illuminated the potency of implicit data processing in enhancing user preferences. Nevertheless, barriers remain in breaking through the constraints of implicit information. This study aims to bridge this gap by firstly constructing a triangular stable node network model, tailored to manage implicit information with precision. Recognizing the challenge of pinpointing novel structures within large-scale graphs, we propose SLTSNN— a triangular stable node network based on self-supervised learning for personalized prediction. SLTSNN innovates by maximizing mutual information between graph-level and patch-level representations, while augmenting graph representations through extended enhanced representations. Additionally, it incorporates triangular data associations and introduces a triangular allocation attention network, which emphasizes strongly correlated preference features among similar users. Furthermore, SLTSNN employs contrastive learning to maximize mutual information between graph vectors and hidden representations, distinguishing between high-order global and local representations. The model’s effectiveness in enhancing user preferences and capturing new graph structures is evidenced by its performance on hit rate and normalized discounted cumulative gain metrics across three datasets.

Smart Grids (SG) rely on Home Area networks (HAN) and Neighborhood Area networks (NAN) to ensure efficient power distribution, real-time monitoring, and seamless communication between smart devices. Despite these advantages, the use of public communication channels in HAN and NAN networks introduces critical challenges, such as vulnerability to impersonation, physical tampering, and scalability issues in resource-constrained environments. These issues compromise the stability, reliability, and security of SG environments. Existing protocols often fail to adequately address these challenges, particularly in ensuring resistance to physical tampering of supply lines and impersonation attacks. Additionally, they struggle to minimize the computation, communication, and energy costs associated with securing a resource-constrained SG environment. Therefore, we propose a robust key exchange and tamper-resistant protocol for HAN and NAN networks to address these limitations. The proposed protocol leverages the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) mechanism to offer physical tampering resistance to smart meters. We validate our protocol formally using the Random or Real (RoR) model, which confirms its security robustness. Additionally, our informal security analysis highlights the protocol's resilience against impersonation, physical tampering attacks, etc. We analyze and compare the performance of the proposed protocol, which further demonstrates our protocol's effectiveness and security compared to competing protocols. Moreover, the proposed protocol achieves resource efficiency with 45.99% and 58.85% substantial reductions in computation overhead and energy overhead, respectively, compared to competing protocols. These results showcase the protocol's enhanced security and practicality for resource-constrained SG environments. © 2014 IEEE.

Emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) aims at accurately identifying emotional states expressed in conversational content. Existing ERC methods, although relying on semantic understanding, often encounter challenges when confronted with incomplete or misleading semantic information. In addition, when dealing with the interaction between emotional and semantic information, existing methods are often difficult to effectively distinguish the complex relationship between the two, which affects the accuracy of emotion recognition. To address the problems of semantic misdirection and emotional cross-talk encountered by traditional models when confronted with complex conversational data, we propose a semantic and emotional dual channel (SEDC) strategy for emotion recognition in conversations to process emotional and semantic information independently. Under this strategy, emotion information provides an auxiliary recognition function when the semantics are unclear or lacking, enhancing the accuracy of the model. Our model consists of two modules: the emotion processing module accurately captures the emotional features of each utterance through contrastive learning, and then constructs a dialogue emotion propagation map to simulate the emotional information conveyed in the dialogue;the semantic processing module combines an external knowledge base to enhance the semantic expression of the dialogue through knowledge enhancement strategies. This divide-and-conquer approach allows us to more deeply analyze the emotional and semantic dimensions of complex dialogues. Experimental results on the IEMOCAP, EmoryNLP, MELD, and DailyDialog datasets show that our approach significantly outperforms existing techniques and effectively improves the accuracy of dialogue emotion recognition. Intelligent supply line surveillance is critical for modern smart grids. Smart sensors and gateway nodes are strategically deployed along supply lines to achieve intelligent surveillance. They collect data continuously and transmit it to the control centre in real-time. It enables real-time monitoring, fault detection, and efficient energy management across distribution networks. This advanced surveillance system ensures continuous monitoring of supply lines, detecting anomalies, and optimizing operations to maintain the stability and reliability of the smart grid. However, the reliance of all participating nodes on public communication channels to transmit supply line surveillance data exposes these systems to critical cyber attacks. These cyber attacks include impersonation, physical tampering, ephemeral secret leakage, and desynchronization attacks. To address these issues, existing key-exchange protocols often fail to ensure robust security while imposing high computation and communication overheads, limiting their practicality for resource-constrained environments. Therefore, we propose a secure and efficient key exchange and tamper-resistant authentication protocol using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). The PUF mechanism provides robust resistance against physical tampering and cloning attacks, ensuring enhanced physical security for supply line devices. We validate the security robustness of the devised protocol using the Random or Real (ROR) model. Furthermore, informal security analysis demonstrates the protocol's robustness in rigorously resisting various attacks, including physical tampering, impersonation, ephemeral secret leakage and desynchronization. Moreover, we determine the performance evaluation that reveals the protocol's superior efficiency compared to competing protocols, achieving significant reductions of 28.64% in computation overhead and 9.96% in communication overhead. © 2014 IEEE.

FedPHE: A Secure and Efficient Federated Learning via Packed Homomorphic Encryption

Cross-silo federated learning (FL) enables multiple institutions (clients) to collaboratively build a global model without sharing private data. To prevent privacy leakage during aggregation, homomorphic encryption (HE) is widely used to encrypt model updates, yet incurs high computation and communication overheads. To reduce these overheads, packed HE (PHE) has been proposed to encrypt multiple plaintexts into a single ciphertext. However, the original design of PHE assumes all clients share a single private key, making the system vulnerable to security threats of ciphertexts being intercepted and decrypted by honest-but-curious clients. Also, it does not consider the heterogeneity among different clients, resulting in undermined training efficiency with slow convergence and stragglers. To address these challenges, we propose FedPHE, a secure and efficient FL framework with PHE by jointly exploiting contribution-aware secure aggregation and straggler-resistant client selection. Using CKKS with sparsification and blinding, FedPHE achieves efficient secure aggregation that allows clients to only provide obscured encrypted updates while the server can perform aggregation by accounting for contributions of local updates. To mitigate the straggler effect, we devise a perturbed sketch-based selection to cherry-pick representative clients with heterogeneous models and computing capabilities in a communication-efficient and privacy-preserving manner. We show, through rigorous security analysis and extensive experiments, that FedPHE can efficiently safeguard clients' privacy, achieve 2.45-6.56× training speedup, cut the communication overhead by 1.32-24.85×, and reduce straggler effects by 1.89-2.78×. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Pedestrian Attribute Recognition (PAR) plays a crucial role in various computer vision applications, demanding precise and reliable identification of attributes from pedestrian images. Traditional PAR methods, though effective in leveraging attention mechanisms, often suffer from the lack of direct supervision on attention, leading to potential overfitting and misallocation. This paper introduces a novel and model-agnostic approach, Attention-Aware Regularization (AAR), which rethinks the attention mechanism by integrating causal reasoning to provide direct supervision of attention maps. AAR employs perturbation techniques and a unique optimization objective to assess and refine attention quality, encouraging the model to prioritize attribute-specific regions. Our method demonstrates significant improvement in PAR performance by mitigating the effects of incorrect attention and fostering a more effective attention mechanism. Experiments on standard datasets showcase the superiority of our approach over existing methods, setting a new benchmark for attention-driven PAR models. © 2025 The Authors
