In order to improve the measurement accuracy of synchronized phasor in the case of frequency offset, an adaptive DFT algorithm based on shifting window symmetrical was presented. First of all, sampling window length of DFT is determined by tracking the frequency of the power grid. Secondly, the composed phasor is calculated by utilizing three sampling windows which were away from a quarter sampling window length to each other. After compensating the fixed offset, the precise phasor measurement results can be computed. In addition, in order to quickly and accurately track the frequency, a zero-crossing algorithm based on three-phase signal for measuring frequency was proposed. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can meet the accuracy of synchronized phasor measurement, significantly decreases the computational complexity over the conventional method, and satisfies the requirements of real time applications for the smart grid.

There are difficulties in detecting low voltage ride through (LVRT) ability of offshore doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) because of complexity of sea condition. In this paper, a new scheme is put forward to solve this problem. This new scheme takes into account the effect of submarine cables on transient process of circuit, and the influence on short-circuit capacity of remote point. It proposes a new method to configure parameters of testing device. And it is implemented at grid connection point (GCP) directly instead of installation site of wind generators. The simulation results in MATlab/Simulink validate the effectiveness of the scheme.

This paper presents a new scheme for distance local backup protection. In this scheme, two main points are included: The first is the distance component that could reliably detect all the faults occurring in protection area;the second is the pilot comparison strategy which is based on the results of distance components. The former employs the setting principle that could meet the requirement of sensitivity when the fault occurs at the end of line where the protection installed. The later could confirm the fault location through the comparison between results of distance components, and then the operating delay time would be flexibly determined depending on fault location. Regional pilot distance local backup protection could make sure that the speed and the selectivity would meet the requirement. Meanwhile, the cooperation between different kinds of protections would be simplified and the improved protection performance of the backup protection could be realized. Through the simulation sample, it can be seen that the protection scheme proposed in this paper could reliably judge the fault, and then the speed and the selectivity of the local backup protection would be guaranteed, meanw hile this scheme partially possesses the ability of fault tolerance.

This paper proposes a method to determine the main unbalance sources on the point of common coupling (PCC) in the distribution system. The unbalance sources in the upstream side are proposed to be equivalent as a Thevenin voltage source, while the unbalance sources in the downstream side are equivalent as an unbalanced current source. An unbalance contribution factor is proposed to determine the contribution of the upstream and downstream unbalance sources. Moreover, the upstream Thevenin equivalent circuit is estimated based on the measured PCC voltages and currents using the complex least-square method. Simulation results verify the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

Similar to other major electrical apparatuses, the reliability and stability of the dc network is becoming the most important issue when using the voltage-source-converter-based multiterminal dc (VSC-MTDC) system for offshore wind power integration. A coordinated control strategy of VSC-MTDC named master-auxiliary is proposed by combining the advantages of the voltage margin and voltage droop control. This strategy has three advantages. First, the master converter station with the constant dc voltage control can provide reference to the system dc voltage and is helpful for the stabilization of dc voltage. Second, the integrated control of the dc voltage in both master and auxiliary converter stations are helpful for providing adequate active power control (APC) and restraining large power variation. Third, the APC converter station can serve as a backup for the dc voltage control in abnormal conditions. In order to guarantee the reliability and stability of the system under various operating conditions, this paper introduces the priority of dc voltage control to the coordination control strategy. Moreover, a parameter optimizing method of controllers for this strategy is also proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the master-auxiliary control is verified by simulations under normal and abnormal conditions.

A predictive control strategy considering ramping rate and power deviation is proposed, which is based on wind turbine load optimization. The wind turbine load model is established according to blade element momentum (BEM) theory, and the influence factors of wind turbine load are analysed based on this model. The control strategy is divided into 3 modules. The prediction module is based on ultra-short-term neural network wind speed prediction. The online optimization model is established with the objectives of minimizing the ramping rate, wind turbine load and power deviation. The feedback module compensates the deviation of optimal control under practical operation conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy can improve the security and economy of wind turbines when dealing with ramping events.

Substations play an important role in power systems. The application of the IEC6I850 standard changes the situation of the traditional substation greatly. The information in the intelligent substation is rich, but it is difficult for the operators to digest them in a short time without an effective assistant tool. A fault diagnosis method which uses the alarming information of the primary and secondary system of the intelligent substation is proposed in this paper. This method first uses the Bayesian based algorithm to find the possible faulty set HI. And at the same time, the information entropy difference algorithm is used to obtain the fault assumption set H2. Then the fault assumption set H2 is used to calculate the fault correctness and a decision fusion algorithm can locate the fault components accurately. Finally, a fault scenario is served for demonstrating the feasibility and validity of the method presented.

The intelligent substation has the characteristics of the intelligent primary devices and the networking secondary system, which has greatly improved its controllability and observability. The change of the secondary system of the intelligent substation makes the traditional fault diagnosis algorithm difficult to adapt it because the traditional fault diagnosis algorithm doesn't take the influence of the network and IED into account. Based on the question that mentioned above, this paper builds the basic fault diagnosis model of the intelligent substation in which the primary system uses the Bayesian Network to find the fault components, analyze the protection relays and circuit breakers' operation and the secondary system uses the expert system to explain the devices' status and give a final diagnosis report via the fusion of the primary and the secondary system diagnosis results. Moreover, it analyzes the inference mechanism of the fault diagnosis of the secondary system, and tests the correctness of the model through a case.

An alternative method to obtain a PMU placement with maximum measurement redundancy is proposed in this paper. By considering the number of branches adjacent to each bus, the proposed method can be formulated in a linear and compact way. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by comparing its results with those of the existing methods (Two-step Method and Quadratic Programming Method) under the IEEE 14-, 30-, 57-and 118-bus test systems. Different scenarios, such as normal condition, contingencies and consideration of zero-injection buses, are also discussed. Moreover, a post-processing optimization is presented to improve the redundancy distribution. After the optimization, the number of red-1 buses, i.e. buses which are made observable one time only by the measurements, is reduced. In this way the redundancy becomes more evenly distributed and the state estimation is more robust. The short execution time of the post-processing optimization and its effectiveness are verified by using various IEEE test systems. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

To deal with a lot of uncertain information existing in the grid when faulted, this article uses a special Bayesian network-Noisy-or, Noisy-and nodes model to build object-oriented Bayesian networks. An error back propagation algorithm is used to train the Bayesian network so as to update the network's parameters. Finally a case simulation is presented to prove the accuracy and validity of this method for power system fault diagnosis.
