Fake news detection has been a critical task for maintaining the health of the online news ecosystem. However, very few existing works consider the temporal shift issue caused by the rapidly-evolving nature of news data in practice, resulting in significant performance degradation when training on past data and testing on future data. In this paper, we observe that the appearances of news events on the same topic may display discernible patterns over time, and posit that such patterns can assist in selecting training instances that could make the model adapt better to future data. Specifically, we design an effective framework FTT (Forecasting Temporal Trends), which could forecast the temporal distribution patterns of news data and then guide the detector to fast adapt to future distribution. Experiments on the real-world temporally split dataset demonstrate the superiority of our proposed framework. The code is available at https://***/ICTMCG/FTT-ACL23. © ACL *** rights reserved.

Hand segmentation is the basis of many vision-based hand gesture applications in human computer interaction (HCI). This paper proposes a novel method of skin color weighted disparity competition to incorporate the skin color and depth cues for hand segmentation in clutter environment from stereo camera. The basic idea is that the hand disparity will be apparently different from most of the background disparities. Note that we refer to the scene except the user as the background. The proposed method validates a hand pixel by verifying whether the pixel satisfies the disparity limit of the hand more than of the background. Its novelty lies in incorporating the skin color probability to weight the disparity competition to improve the robustness of validation and the accuracy of boundary location. False claims that have been previously fact-checked can still spread on social media. To mitigate their continual spread, detecting previously fact-checked claims is indispensable. Given a claim, existing works retrieve fact-checking articles (FC-articles) for detection and focus on reranking candidate articles in the typical two-stage retrieval framework. However, their performance may be limited as they ignore the following characteristics of FC-articles: (1) claims are often quoted to describe the checked events, providing lexical information besides semantics;and (2) sentence templates to introduce or debunk claims are common across articles, providing pattern information. In this paper, we propose a novel reranker, MTM (Memoryenhanced Transformers for Matching), to rank FC-articles using key sentences selected using event (lexical and semantic) and pattern information. For event information, we propose to finetune the Transformer with regression of ROUGE. For pattern information, we generate pattern vectors as a memory bank to match with the parts containing patterns. By fusing event and pattern information, we select key sentences to represent an article and then predict if the article fact-checks the given claim using the claim, key sentences, and patterns. Experiments on two real-world datasets show that MTM outperforms existing methods. Human evaluation proves that MTM can capture key sentences for explanations. One fundamental problem in services computing is how to bridge the gap between business requirements and various heterogeneous IT services. This involves eliciting business requirements and building a solution accordingly by reusing available services. While the business requirements are commonly elicited through use cases and scenarios, it is not straightforward to transform the use case model into a service model, and the existing manual approach is cumbersome and error-prone. In this paper, the environment ontology, which is used to model the problem space, is utilized to facilitate the model transformation process. The environment ontology provides a common understanding between business analysts and software engineers. The required software functionalities as well as the available services' capabilities are described using this ontology. By semi-automatically matching the required capability of each use case to the available capabilities provides by services, a use case is realized by that set of services. At the end of this paper, a fictitious case study was used to illustrate how this approach works. © 2010 IEEE.

Data is in a very important position for pattern recognition tasks including eye gaze estimation. In the literature, most researchers used normal face datasets, which are not specifically designed for eye gaze estimation. As a result, it is difficult to obtain fine labeled eye gaze direction. Therefore large datasets with well-defined gaze directions are desired. To facilitate related researches, we collect and establish the Oulu Multi-pose Eye Gaze Dataset. Inspired by the psychological observation that gaze direction is intrinsically linked with the head orientation, we are devoted to a new data set of eye gaze images captured under multiple head poses. It finally results in a dataset containing over 40K images from 50 subjects, who were asked to fixate on 10 special points on screen under different poses respectively. We investigate a new eye gaze estimation approach by using the IGO based description, and compare it with other popular eye gaze estimation approaches to provide the baseline results on our dataset. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

In this paper,we design a collocation method to solve the fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation.A Jacobi collocation method is developed and implemented in two ***,we space-discretize the equation by the Jacobi-Gauss-Lobatto collocation(JGLC)method in one-and two-dimensional *** equation is then converted to a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)with the time variable based on *** second step applies the Jacobi-Gauss-Radau collocation(JGRC)method for the time ***,we give a theoretical proof of convergence of this Jacobi collocation method and some numerical results showing the proposed scheme is an effective and high-precision algorithm.

Guaranteing the quality of face object in video call is the key task for video coding systems under the constrained bandwidth of network. Conventionally, the face object is divided into disperse blocks under the hybrid coding framework. Therefore, the characteristics of the complete face object have not been fully used. Meanwhile, it is difficult to predict the complex affine transformations such as rotation and scaling of the face object in neighboring frames based on the current translation motion model. In this paper, we propose an improved video coding scheme for video call. The complex transformation of complete face object is used to improve the compression effect. Experimental results show that our proposed method has better performance compared with HM12.0, the bits rate saving of face region is up to 19.59% under the similar visual quality. In this paper, we introduced an intelligent call center platform (ICCP) for communication enterprises. The platform is based on two broad suites of technologies: Knowledge management and natural language processing. First, we designed an enterprise knowledge modeling technology, and provided a knowledge management system for managing customer service knowledge. Then mobile customers are allowed to send Chinese queries, through either Internet tools (e.g. MSN, QQ, BBS and Fetion) or Wireless SM devices (e.g. mobile phones), to a multi-tier natural language understanding engine, and the engine retrieves the knowledge bases to find correct answers after understanding the queries. The ICCP has been successfully used in a domestic communication group since March 2009, and achieved a satisfactory performance. © 2010 IEEE.

We propose a novel locality sensitive vocabulary coding scheme to extract compact descriptors for low bit rate visual search. We employ Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) to learn the topic vocabularies of lower dimension to generate compact descriptors. To deal with diverse datasets, LDA model is introduced to subdivide a dataset into groups of images with a topic model, where the code word distributions in each group produce coherent statistics from generative learning. Moreover, our empirical study has shown that the original Bag-of-Word (BoW) is sparse, and the occurrences of non-zero words is coherent within a topic. Our proposed topic-wise vocabulary learning yields a more compact yet discriminative codebook to search images. Given a query image, multiple topics are determined, which is fed into the topic vocabularies to generate more compact topical descriptor. Comparison experiments show our topic-wise locality sensitive vocabulary coding produces more compact and discriminative descriptors than the state-of-the-arts. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper we present a feature extraction approach by using ICA filters bank, which consists of the ICA basis images learned from the training images. On the basis of its ability to capture the inherent properties of textured image, we use the ICA filters bank as template model to extract the texture feature for segmentation. Experiments based on clustering and classifications are demonstrated to show the feasibility of this method. © 2009 IEEE.
