Cables usually serve as critical load-bearing structural components in cable-stayed bridges. Vertical deflection is an important overall indicator that directly reflects the health status of bridge. The relationship between cable tension and vertical deflection also reflects the underlying mechanism of structures. In this context, a machine learning-based approach is proposed. Cable tension and vertical deflection are caused by prestress, temperature and vehicle loads. In this study, we focus on the cable force and vertical deflection caused by vehicle loads. Artificial neural network (ANN) is employed as the supervised learning method to learn the relationship between cable tension and vertical deflection. Field monitored data of Jintang Bridge are used to test the validity of the proposed method. The results show that ANN is capable of modelling vertical deflection from cable tension data in the case of arbitrary vehicle distribution. The proposed method which integrates the local and global variables by using two different kinds of monitoring data, avoids the complicated mechanical derivations, and is proved to be environment-insensitive.

Stabilization disposal and utilization of the sewage sludge has been an important research topic to be urgently solved,for the problem of large and serious pollution of solid waste emissions of *** study highlighted the variables of the dosages of sewage sludge after dried and ground and curing conditions,basic mechanical properties such as compressive strength and flexural strength of silicate products were *** obtained test results were indicated that there was a decrease in both compressive strength and flexural strength with the increase of sewage sludge content,for the increase of crystallinity,porosity and more internal defects of the *** moisture kept constant,along with the curing temperature and age in the range of 50℃ to 70℃,compressive strength of silicate products was increased,for the increase and compact structure of hydration products and interface transition zone,*** flexural strength demonstrated a decrease when the temperature greater than 70℃.However,when the curing temperature up to 90℃,compressive strength and flexural strength both exhibited a decline with the curing age longer,which was explained by the increase of crystallinity in the interface caused by the conversion of hydration products inside matrix.

The effect of different fibers on mechanical properties and ductility of alkaliactivated slag cementitious material（AASCM） is studied. The research contents include: fiber type（plant fiber, polypropylene fiber）, fiber content, mechanical property index, tensile stressstrain relationship curve, treating time. The test results showed that the compressive strength of two fibers reinforced AASCM was about 90 ~ 110 MPa, and the tensile strength was about 3 ~ 5 MPa. The reinforcement effect of polypropylene fiber is superior to that of plant fiber, and the mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced AASCM are superior to those of plant fiber, According to the comparison of SEM pictures, the plant fiber and polypropylene fiber are both closely bound with the matrix, and the transition zones are complete and close. Thus, it is proved that plant fiber and polypropylene fiber delay the crack extension and enhance the ductility of AASCM.

A novel horizontal and vertical wall-to-wall and wall-to-floor connection methods for precast box-modularized structure with reinforced concrete shear walls (PBSRCSWs) are proposed in this paper. The entailing behavior of the proposed connections and the seismic performance of one full-scale six-story PBSRCSWs were experimentally studied by means of pseudodynamic substructure tests. In order to improve the relevant experimental accuracy, we presented and validated one versatile testing platform Hytest, combined with external displacement feedback control (EDFC;Hytest with EDFC). In greater detail, it was shown from the pseudodynamic substructure test results that the proposed Hytest with EDFC can effectively impose the desired displacements on the specimens rather than on the actuators. Moreover, both the horizontal and vertical wall-to-wall connections proposed for the PBSRCSWs exhibited a favorable behavior whilst the PBSRCSWs subjected to earthquake records showed an excellent seismic performance. This article reports a study on the microstructural and long-term mechanical properties of the alkali activated slag up to 180 days, and cement paste is studied as the comparison. The mechanical properties including compressive strength, flexural strength, axis tensile strength and splitting tensile strength are analyzed. The results showed that the alkali activated slag had higher compressive and tensile strength, Slag is activated by potassium silicate（KSiO） and sodium hydroxide（Na OH） solutions for attaining silicate modulus of 1 using 12 potassium silicate and 5.35% sodium hydroxide. The volume dosage of water is 35% and 42%. The results indicate that alkali activated slag is a kind of rapid hardening and early strength cementitious material with excellent long-term mechanical properties. Single row of holes block compressive strength, single-hole block compressive strength and standard solid brick compressive strength basically meet engineering requirements. The microstructures of alkali activated slag are studied by X-ray diffraction（XRD）. The hydration products of alkaliactivated slag are assured as hydrated calcium silicate and hydrated calcium aluminate.

A novel tuned heave plate system for heave motion suppression and energy harvesting on semi-submersible platforms

Deepwater offshore structures such as semi-submersible platforms suffer powerful ocean waves due to their location and site condition. The long distance away from the shore also brings many difficulties to energy supply for the platform operation. How to reduce the response of the platform and convert the wave energy into electrical power is a meaningful topic. In this paper, a tuned heave plate system(THP) is presented and designed to be employed on a semi-submersible platform for heave motion suppression and energy harvesting. This THP system is composed of spring supports, a power take-off system(PTO), and a heave plate. The PTO system is a permanent magnet linear generator(PMLG), which could directly convert the kinetic energy of the heave plate into electronic power. The stiffness of the spring supports is designed based on the principle of the tuned mass damper(TMD). The numerical model of the platform and the THP system is established according to the hydrodynamic analysis results of the platform. The model is tested and modified by scale model tests on the platform in the wave tank. A parameter study, including the size, tuned period, and damping ratio of the THP system, is conducted systematically based on the numerical model. The optimal parameters of the THP are selected due to the maximum heave motion reduction under severe wave conditions in South china Sea. The performance of the semi-submersible with and without the THP system under different wave conditions is analyzed. It is demonstrated that this novel tuned heave plate system could reduce the heave motion of the semi-submersible platform significantly and generate considerable power, which makes the THP system have a broad prospect for development.

A European pressurized reactor （EPR） steel containment liner structure is comprised of the cylinder part and the dome part. An introduction of the steel liner structure is presented, followed by studies on the key mechanical features of the construction process using a refined finite element method. The steel liner was divided into several modules and then assembled during construction. Firstly, the equipment structure used to hoist the liner module was optimized, the lifting lug was analyzed using a multi-scale finite element model; the wind speed limit during lifting was also studied. Subsequently, the effect of internal forces during assembly between the liner modules, the lateral pressure of fresh concrete, the non-uniform temperature load, and the wind load on the cylinder module was analyzed. According to the time-varying structural performance during continuous concrete pouring and the hardening construction, an ＂overlapping element and birth-death element＂ technique was adopted to analyze the deformation and stress of the long-span steel dome liner. In addition, the stability-bearing capacities of the dome structure during construction were also studied, which took into consideration the effect of the initial geometrical imperfections and the elasto-plasticity of the material. This study presents a reference in terms of the mechanics of the construction scheme and the safety of such a type of structure.

LQD-RKHS-based distribution-to-distribution regression methodology for restoring the probability distributions of missing SHM data

Data loss is a critical problem in structural health monitoring (SHM). Probability distributions play a highly important role in many applications. Improving the quality of distribution estimations made using incomplete samples is highly important. Missing samples can be compensated for by applying conventional missing data restoration methods;however, ensuring that restored samples roughly follow underlying distributions of true missing data remains a challenge. Another strategy involves directly restoring the probability density function (PDF) for a sensor when samples are missing by leveraging distribution information from another sensor with complete data using distribution regression techniques;existing methods include the conventional distribution-to-distribution regression (DDR) and distribution-to-warping function regression (DWR) methods. Due to constraints on PDFs and warping functions, the regression functions of both methods are estimated from the Nadaraya-Watson kernel estimator with relatively low degrees of precision. This article proposes a new indirect distribution-to-distribution regression method in the context of functional data analysis for restoring distributions of missing SHM data. PDFs are transformed to ordinary functions residing in a Hilbert space via the newly proposed log-quantile-density (LQD) transformation;the regression for distributions is realized in the transformed space via a functional regression model constructed based on the theory of Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS), corresponding result is subsequently mapped back to the density space through the inverse LQD transformation. Test results using field monitoring data indicate that the new method significantly outperforms conventional methods in general cases;however, in extrapolation cases, the new method is inferior to the distribution-to-warping function regression method. The durability performance of cement-based material is actually and mostly determined by the penetration process of deleterious agents and possible chemical and physical reactions between them, where water always plays an important role. In addition, the transport properties of other agents also depend seriously on the water content. It is rather essential to understand the distribution of water and its transport in partially saturated cement-based materials, which are facilitated herein through low-field nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) technique and gas permeability testing on partially saturated white cement mortar specimens. It is found that most water is stored in inter-layer pores when it is equilibrated with relative humidity below 75%. Due to the marked contraction or swelling of interlayer pores during drying or wetting, the gel pores and inter-hydrate pores are greatly changed while the overall porosity is little altered. At totally drying state, the pore structure of cement-based material becomes obviously coarser, making the gas permeability remarkably larger than water permeability by as large as 2-3 orders of magnitudes. The intrinsic gas permeability obtained on partially saturated specimens reveals that, both the permeability to water and gas depend nonlinearly on the water content, which are well characterized by the models we suggested. Not only the water saturation degree but also the induced pore structure evolution should be incorporated when modelling the transport of water.

In order to evaluate surface deformation of sandwich plates with aluminum foam cores under high speed impact loading, a surface deformation detection method based on the parallel stereovision model is proposed in this paper. Total five constraints are combined together to optimize the disparity map, and the maximum and minimum disparity constraint is achieved by adjusting the disparity range to remove false parallax. 3D point clouds of deformed surface are calculated according to the parallel stereovision model, and the deformed surface are gained by Delaunay triangulation accordingly. A stereovision surface deformation measurement system is integrated on the base of the above algorithm, the surface deformation measurement test of aluminum foam cores sandwich plates under high speed impact loading is performed with the integrated system. Experimental results show that the reconstructed deformed surface can accurately display the surface deformation of sandwich plates with aluminum foam cores under high speed impact loading, this verifies the effec-Tivness and reliability of the proposed method. © The authors and ICE Publishing: All rights reserved, 2016.
