Design and implementation of a kind of EUPS for mobile service

In order to support mobile service of long-distance monitoring and controlling UPS based on Web, a kind of design and implementation solution of embedded UPS (EUPS) system is brought forward in this paper. The design and implementation of system is based on ATmega161 and RTL8019AS with TCP/IP protocol suite for communication. In the EUPS system, an embedded file system is designed and implemented which can store the data and index information on a serial EEPROM chip in structured way and communicate with MCU through I2C bus. By embedding the file system into UPS system or other information appliances, users can browse and manipulate local data on the web client side. Based on our experimental tests, the performance of EUPS can meet the requirements of Web-based mobile services. © 2010 Binary Information Press.

A 5-parameter bundle adjustment method is proposed in this paper for global mosaic of an image sequence. By decomposing the rotation matrix into a 3-parameter rotation axis and a rotation angle, to each image, there are 5 parameters that need estimate for rotation axis, rotation angle and focal length. The proposed method minimizes the distance between feature matches in 3D space so that these 5 parameters are refined gradually for final stitching of all images together. Experimental results suggest that this method is an useful extension to existing research with the advantages of real 3D camera motion, accurate 5-parameter rotation decomposition and reliable 3D feature definition. © 2009 IEEE.

With the expansion of the Web, automatically organizing large scale text resources, e.g. Web pages, becomes very important. Many Web sites, like Google and Yahoo, use hierarchical classification trees to organize text resources in Web. User can easily find the text resources that meet their requirements by navigating these hierarchical classification trees. Typically, the text resources in Web are manually assigned to the nodes of the hierarchical classification tree. This limits the hierarchical classification tree to organize large scale text resources. In this paper, we propose a Frequent Term Tree to improve the ability of hierarchical classification tree in organizing large scale text resources in Web. Different from the Fp-tree [17] which is utilized to efficiently discover frequent patterns, the frequent term tree is used to organize resources with frequent pattern based classification. The Frequent Term Tree can accurately assign text resources to each node of classification tree and improve the ability in organizing resources with the incremental classified text resources. The evaluation of the Frequent Term Tree demonstrates that Frequent Term Tree can effectively and efficiently organize text resources. © 2009 IEEE.

Thinning algorithms can be classified into two general types: serial and parallel algorithms. Several algorithms have been proposed, but they have limitations. A new thinning algorithm based on the centroid of the block is presented. The new algorithm checks the 9*9 local neighborhoods around the pixel to find out the centroid pixel of the block, and other pixels are removed. The process is performed iteratively until less than ten pixels are deleted in one loop. To ensure the ridge is one pixel wide, a post-processing loop is designed and the pixels are deleted from the image if they satisfy some conditions. Experimental results are used to compare this new algorithm to other algorithms and their relative performances are assessed. The new algorithm is fast than other algorithms and the ridges are one pixel wide after thinned. ©2009 IEEE.

The rapid development of the Web technology makes the Web mining become the focus of the current data mining, and the XML technology also becomes the standard of the data exchange on the Web. The paper introduces the Web mining technology, implements a frame of the Web mining based on the XML technology according to the advantage of XML in the data description, describes the implementation process of specific Web mining, and puts forward a promoting scheme on solving XML documents with VTD which solves the difficult mining problem on the Web caused by the most of the non-structure information. © 2009 IEEE.

A mathematical framework based on probability theory is presented that enables us to analyze one important aspect of SI algorithms: the population diversity. Firstly the population density degree is defined for the population in the SI algorithms. The population diversity is then discussed from the point of view of the normal distribution in statistics. We show that there is a close connection between the distribution and population diversity and that the essential structure of population diversity is quite similar to that of the distribution. A detailed construction of the population diversity model is then given that is based on probability distributions. The paper concludes with a generic numerical example that validates the population diversity model. © 2009 IEEE.

As Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an important technology of radiological evaluation and computeraided diagnosis, the accuracy of the MR image segmentation directly influences the validity of following processing. The paper concerns medical image segmentation based on t-mixture model because of merits of the model. By analyzing the features of MR images, the main procedure of white matter segmentation of brain MR Images based on t-mixture model is outlined follows. The parameters of t-mixture model for the image are firstly estimated. Then the posterior probabilities of the pixels of the image are computed. At last, the image is segmented according to the Bayes decision rule for minimum error. Experimental results show that t-mixture model fits for medical image segmentation. ©2009 IEEE.

Recent studies have found that adoption of structure similarity index (SSIM) was successful in reflecting human visual characteristic better compared with traditional PSNR metrics. However this method shows some defects when evaluating the quality of blurred images and compressed degraded images at low bit rate. Good quality results were hardly achieved as they do not match the human vision system (HVS) well. This paper is to introduce a new image quality assessment algorithm based on wavelet-domain structure similarity (WDSSIM). The relative importance of the edge information under different scales is considered sufficiently in image quality assessment. The experimental results have demonstrated better consistency with the subjective perception for a large range of image types. ©2009 IEEE.

Existing methods for the registration of blurred images are efficient for the artificially blurred images or a planar registration. They are not suitable for image mosaic of the source images from a real camera with an almost fixed optical center. We propose a registration method so that a distortion-free registration on naturally captured images can be obtained. It adopts a multi-resolution and robust feature based inter-layer mosaic together. In each layer, Harris corner detector is chosen to effectively detect features and RANSAC is used to find reliable matches for further calibration as well as an initial homography as the initial motion of next layer. Simplex and subspace trust region methods are used consequently to estimate the stable focal length and rotation matrix through the transformation property of feature matches. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of our proposed method.

The gradient vector flow (GVF) is an effective external force for active contours, but it's smoothness constraint doesn't take any image structure into account and the resulting diffusion equation is isotropic which would oversmooth weak edges. In this article, a novel external force named image structure adaptive gradient vector flow (ISAGVF) is proposed for active contours. The proposed ISAGVF employs certain smoothness constraint which is able to be adaptive to image structure, such that the ISAGVF snake would outperform the GVF snake in terms of noise robustness, weak edge preserving and narrow and deep concavity convergence, while possessing some other desirable properties such as enlarged capture range and insensitivity to initialization. Experiments on synthetic and real images manifest these properties of ISAGVF snake. ©2009 IEEE.
