QoS-aware routing algorithm is important in wireless multimedia sensornetworks. This paper formulates a generalized QoS-aware routing model on the basis of multiple routing metrics and priorities of packets. We first introduce a 2D plain-based routing algorithm IPACR which improves the standard ant colony algorithm by optimizing the initial distribution of artificial pheromone in order to accelerate the algorithm convergence rate. Then a clustering-based routing algorithm ICACR is presented which can be well applied in a large scale network. ICACR is a variation of IPACR because it can be suitable for clustering cases to satisfy the larger scale situations. Both the numerical algorithm performance analysis and simulation of IPACR and ICACR are given. The results show that ICACR outperforms IPACR in terms of both network lifetime and QoS-aware routing metrics in large scale wireless multimedia sensornetworks. Moreover, the simulation based on the real video traces shows that by extending the multi-path to ICACR for different priorities of video frames better performance can be achieved.

Cloud computing offers utility-oriented services to users, which is supported by large-scale data center. Although virtualized data centers provide high performance computing service, they also consume enormous amount of power. To solve the problem, dynamic consolidation of Virtual Machines (VMs) is considered as an efficient way to reduce power consumption and guarantee Quality of Service (QoS). Live migration is applied into the dynamic consolidation, which allows VMs to be migrated to other hosts and aims to minimize the number of hosts in data centers. However, the migration overhead is essential to be taken into account and massive migrations will lead to performance degradation and extra power consumption. In this paper, we propose a utilization-based migration algorithm (UMA) to migrate VMs to stable hosts, which efficiently reduces migration time and power consumption. Experiment results show that our UMA can reduce about 77.5%-82.4% migrations and save up to 39.3%-42.2% power consumption compared with the MinPower policy.

Side information has a significant influence on the rate-distortion(RD) performance of distributed video coding(DVC). In the conventional motion compensated frame interpolation scheme, all blocks adopt the same side-information generation method regardless of the motion intensity inequality at different regions. In this paper, an improved method is proposed. The image blocks are classified into two modes, fast motion and slow motion, by simply computing the discrete cosine transformation(DCT) coefficients at the encoder. On the decoder, it chooses the direct interpolation and refined motion compensated interpolation correspondingly to generate side information. Experimental results show that the proposed method, without increasing the encoder complexity, can increase the average peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) by up to 1~ 2 dB compared with the existing algorithm. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm significantly improves the subjective quality of the side information.

In this paper, we propose a parallel HEVC encoder scheme based on multi-core platform, which provides maximized parallel scalab.lity by exploiting two-level parallelism, namely, the frame level parallelism and the CTB level parallelism. Inspired by the intra-CTB row level parallelism of WPP in HEVC, we investigate the inter-frame CTB prediction dependency to its reference CTBs, and find the inter-CTB correlation. Using this inter-correlation, we divide a frame into CTB units and create CTB-row level coding threads when their corresponding reference CTBs are availab.e. Each thread is bonded to a processing core, therefore, both intra- and inter-CTB rows can be encoded in parallel. Moreover, we introduce a priority scheduling mechanism to control the coding threads. Experiments on Tilera-Gx36 multi-core platform show that, compared with serial execution, the proposed method achieves 3.6 and 4.3 times speedup for 1080 P and 720 P video sequences, respectively.

The logic Bell-state which encodes many physical qubits in a logic qubit has great application potential in the future quantum communication field, for it is robust to the decoherence in a noisy environment. In this paper, we propose a complete logic Bell-state analysis (LBSA) with the help of the auxiliary single atoms trapped in the low-quality cavity. We construct the parity-check measurement gate based on the photonic Faraday rotation effect and complete the task combined with the Hadamard operation and single-qubit measurement. The number of physical qubits encoded in each logic qubit does not affect the analysis. We also discuss the application of this LBSA in the fields of quantum teleportation and logic-qubit entanglement swapping. Our LBSA protocol may have practical application in future long-distance quantum communication.
