Research of deep packet inspection system based on the MapReduce

In this paper, we propose a deep packet inspection system based on the MapReduce. The MapReduce which is a parallel distributed programming model developed by Google applies the technology of deep packet inspection. Network protocol analysis technique is invoked to realize detect, effectively reducing the packet number to be matched. Furthermore, cache technology is adopted to store attack signature from database in order to reduce the frequency of reading the rules from library file which improved the detection efficiency. Experimental results show that effectiveness of the proposed system with the high-speed network traffic. Copyright © 2013 Binary Information Press.

Abnormal network traffic detection approach based on alive entropy

A novel alive entropy-based detection approach was proposed, which detects the abnormal network traffic based on the values of alive entropies. The alive entropies calculated based on the NetFlow data coming from the network traffic of input and output of a whole system, which is essentially a monitored network. In order to decrease false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, different scales are selected to compute the values of alive entropies in different sizes of network traffic. With the low false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, the abnormal network traffic can be effectively detected. Experiments carried out on a real campus network were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study illustrates that the proposed approach may easily detect the abnormal network traffic with random characteristics in comparison with some "conventional" approaches reported in the literatures.

Full virtualization is vastly applied in desktop virtualization. Although hardware-assisted virtualization greatly improves the performance, the interactive performance is still a bottleneck for full virtualization. Interactive performance is mainly influenced by I/O devices. In one hand, I/O devices are slow device. In another hand, they are often shared by multiple virtual machines through simulation. Our study focuses on the interactive performance optimization, and can mainly be classified into three categories: (1) Targeting multi-core system, we investigate virtual machine deployment to ensure stable performance of the whole system and individual virtual machine. (2) Dynamically adjust the resource among virtual machines based on the individual machine's interactive behavior. (3) Optimize the I/O request scheduler in term of the virtualization implementation. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In this demo paper we present a multiscale browsing interface for handheld devices, in which the user can interactively change the scale of the storyboard to easily adjust the amount of information desired. Conventional and hierarchical storyboards provide one or very few possible lengths. In contrast, scalab.e storyboards allow the number of images and the storyboard itself to be adapted to the device constraints (e.g. aspect ratio, resolution) and navigation state with much finer granularity. Several levels and modes, including segment of interest, are provided for more intuitive and convenient navigation. © 2013 Authors.

We propose a novel method called exemplar finder (EF) for spectral data endmember extraction problem, which is also known as blind unmixing in remote sensing community. Exemplar finder is based on data self reconstruction assuming that the bases (endmembers) generating the data exist in the given data set. The bases selection is fulfilled by minimising a l2/l1 norm on the reconstruction coefficients, which eliminates or suppresses irrelevant weights from non-exemplar samples. As a result, it is able to identify endmembers automatically. This algorithm can be further extended, for example, using different error structures and including rank operator. We test this method on semi-simulated hyperspectral data where ground truth is availab.e. Exemplar finder successfully identifies endmembers, which is far better than some existing methods, especially when signal to noise ratio is high. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Recently, more and more approaches are emerging to solve the cross-view matching problem where reference samples and query samples are from different views. In this paper, inspired by Graph Embedding, we propose a unified framework for these cross-view methods called Cross-view Graph Embedding. The proposed framework can not only reformulate most traditional cross-view methods (e.g., CCA, PLS and CDFE), but also extend the typical single-view algorithms (e.g., PCA, LDA and LPP) to cross-view editions. Furthermore, our general framework also facilitates the development of new cross-view methods. In this paper, we present a new algorithm named Cross-view Local Discriminant Analysis (CLODA) under the proposed framework. Different from previous cross-view methods only preserving inter-view discriminant information or the intra-view local structure, CLODA preserves the local structure and the discriminant information of both intra-view and inter-view. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate our algorithms on two cross-view face recognition problems: face recognition across poses and face recognition across resolutions. These real-world face recognition experiments demonstrate that our framework achieves impressive performance in the cross-view problems. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In many practical data mining applications, such as web categorization, key gene selection, etc., generally, unlab.led training examples are readily availab.e, but lab.led ones are fairly expensive to obtain. Therefore, in recent years, semi-supervised learning algorithms such as graph-based methods have attracted much attention. However, most of these traditional methods adopted a Gaussian function to calculate the edge weights of the graph. In this paper, a novel weight for semi-supervised graph-based methods is proposed. The new method adds the lab.l information from problem into the target function, and adopts the geodesic distance rather than Euclidean distance as the measure of the difference between two data points when conducting the calculation. In addition, we also add class prior knowledge from problem into semi-supervised learning algorithm. Here we address the problem of learning with local and global consistency (LGC). It was found that the effect of class prior knowledge was probably different between under high lab.l rate and low lab.l rate. Furthermore, we integrate sparse representation (SR) in LGC algorithm. Experiments on a UCI data set show that our proposed method outperforms the original algorithms. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

Neural network language models, or continuous-space language models (CSLMs), have been shown to improve the performance of statistical machine translation (SMT) when they are used for reranking n-best translations. However, CSLMs have not been used in the first pass decoding of SMT, because using CSLMs in decoding takes a lot of time. In contrast, we propose a method for converting CSLMs into back-off n-gram language models (BNLMs) so that we can use converted CSLMs in decoding. We show that they outperform the original BNLMs and are comparable with the traditional use of CSLMs in reranking. © 2013 Association for Computational Linguistics.

In this paper, we explore the real-world Still-to-Video (S2V) face recognition scenario, where only very few (single, in many cases) still images per person are enrolled into the gallery while it is usually possible to capture one or multiple video clips as probe. Typical application of S2V is mug-shot based watch list screening. Generally, in this scenario, the still image(s) were collected under controlled environment, thus of high quality and resolution, in frontal view, with normal lighting and neutral expression. On the contrary, the testing video frames are of low resolution and low quality, possibly with blur, and captured under poor lighting, in non-frontal view. We reveal that the S2V face recognition has been heavily overlooked in the past. Therefore, we provide a benchmarking in terms of both a large scale dataset and a new solution to the problem. Specifically, we collect (and release) a new dataset named COX-S2V, which contains 1,000 subjects, with each subject a high quality photo and four video clips captured simulating video surveillance scenario. Together with the database, a clear evaluation protocol is designed for benchmarking. In addition, in addressing this problem, we further propose a novel method named Partial and Local Linear Discriminant Analysis (PaLo-LDA). We then evaluated the method on COX-S2V and compared with several classic methods including LDA, LPP, ScSR. Evaluation results not only show the grand challenges of the COX-S2V, but also validate the effectiveness of the proposed PaLo-LDA method over the competitive methods. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Because of the petrifaction of the existing network, it is difficult to achieve the controllab.lity, adaptability and expansibility in current structure. Simultaneously, in order to have better campus network services in teaching, researching and studying, a new structure based on reconfigurable architecture for campus network was designed based on service set handling capacity of various kinds of business in reconfigurable network as the central idea. After the evolution from tradition to flat structure, a more condensed structure was proposed by adopting virtualization technology on switches and routers. It has the advantages of high performance, high reliability, manageability and augmentability.
