Although recent years have seen much progress in semantic role lab.ling in English, only a little research focuses on Chinese dependency relationship. This paper presents an SRL system on Chinese dependency relation by using the similar method in an English SRL system. We also explore dependency-based predicate analysis in Chinese SRL. We perform our experiments on two datasets. Our results show that dependency-based Chinese SRL is not only feasible but also superior to the constituent-based SRL in some respects.

Based on digital elevation model (DEM), the distributed models for calculating possible sunshine (PS) over rugged terrains (RT) are established and this model considers the influence of slope, aspect, and terrain inter-shielding. The spatial distribution of PS with 100m100m over RT in Guiyang city is calculated by this model. The results show that the influences of slope, aspect and the terrain inter-shielding on PS are very big and it is greater than the effect of latitude. The spatial distribution of PS over RT in Guiyang city has apparent terrain feature. The spatial difference of PS over RT is big. The values of annual PS over RT in Guiyang city are 3233-368 hours, the difference is large in different regions. The smaller values lie in shady slope of the mountain. The bigger values lie in sunny slope of the mountain. The values of PS over RT in the Guiyang city are 154-322 hours in January. A DCT-domain based character detection algorithm is proposed for video stream. It utilizes the directional features of the texture in character blocks and the property that the characters in video usually distribute in row or column. The character/non-character blocks are effectively separated by a new adaptive threshold, then the noise and false text regions are further removed by morphological operation. Finally, the text regions are accurately obtained by horizontal and vertical projection. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can detect characters accurately even in video with complex background , and it is of good robustness and high practical value.

This paper proposes to use a convolution kernel over parse tree to model syntactic structure information for pronoun resolution. Our study reveals that the syntactic structure features embedded in a parse tree are very effective for pronoun resolution and these features can be well captured by the context-sensitive convolution tree kernel. Evaluation on the ACE 2003 corpus shows that among all structured syntactic feature space, shortest path tree achieves the best performance. Then we incorporate more features into SPT, result shows that SPT can use successfully with normal features. Finally, we compare our system with other pronoun resolution systems, our results are outstanding in success rate than normal features and tree kernel-based method of Yang.

This paper mainly presents two approaches for image retrieval. There is some faintness in color locating in quantification boundary when image color is quantized. The membership function in fuzzy set theory can describe the fuzzy transition preferably. In this paper, the membership function in HSI color space is adopted to solve the problem above. At the same time, spatial information is integrated with color feature to describe the image content more truly. Due to the importance of texture feature, gray concurrence matrix is extracted. In the second part of this paper, retrieval scheme combining four image feature descriptors is presented, and then follows Fuzzy Hamming Distance (FHD) which is used as a fuzzy similarity measure. We have performed an experiment on a 1000 images database and our results show higher retrieval accuracy. © 2008 IEEE.

This paper proposes a new approach to dynamically determine the tree span for tree kernel-based semantic relation extraction. It exploits constituent dependencies to keep the nodes and their head children along the path connecting the two entities, while removing the noisy information from the syntactic parse tree, eventually leading to a dynamic syntactic parse tree. This paper also explores entity features and their combined features in a unified parse and semantic tree, which integrates both structured syntactic parse information and entity-related semantic information. Evaluation on the ACE RDC 2004 corpus shows that our dynamic syntactic parse tree outperforms all previous tree spans, and the composite kernel combining this tree kernel with a linear state-of-the-art feature-based kernel, achieves the so far best performance. © 2008. This paper proposes a context-sensitive convolution tree kernel for pronoun resolution. It resolves two critical problems in previous researches in two ways. First, given a parse tree and a pair of an anaphor and an antecedent candidate, it implements a dynamic-expansion scheme to automatically determine a proper tree span for pronoun resolution by taking predicate- and antecedent competitor-related information into consideration. Second, it applies a context-sensitive convolution tree kernel, which enumerates both context-free and context-sensitive sub-trees by considering their ancestor node paths as their contexts. Evaluation on the ACE 2003 corpus shows that our dynamic-expansion tree span scheme can well cover necessary structured information in the parse tree for pronoun resolution and the context- sensitive tree kernel much outperforms previous tree kernels. © 2008 IJCNLP 2008 - 3rd International Joint Conference on Natural Language processing, Proceedings of the Conference. This paper proposes a semi-supervised learning method for relation extraction. Given a small amount of lab.led data and a large amount of unlab.led data, it first bootstraps a moderate number of weighted support vectors via SVM through a co-training procedure with random feature projection and then applies a lab.l propagation (LP) algorithm via the bootstrapped support vectors. Evaluation on the ACE RDC 2003 corpus shows that our method outperforms the normal LP algorithm via all the availab.e lab.led data without SVM bootstrapping. Moreover, our method can largely reduce the computational burden. This suggests that our proposed method can integrate the advantages of both SVM bootstrapping and lab.l propagation.s. © 2008 IJCNLP 2008 - 3rd International Joint Conference on Natural Language processing, Proceedings of the Conference. Flow sampling algorithms and data streaming algorithms have widely adopted the hashing algorithms to detect flow information at the high-speed links for the applications of the flow distribution, the number of flow, the heavy-tailed flow, and so on. Hashing algorithms involve transforming a key inside a hash value. But there aren't hash algorithms which are designed for flow measurement. In this paper, we propose a method to design flow hash algorithm based on traffic character. A bit probability distance metric is given to design a flow hash algorithm, and a flow hash algorithm is given using a CERNET trace, and the flow hash algorithm is compared with Bob and CRC hash algorithms by an uniformity test, the number of active flows tests, and a speed test. The experimental result shows that the flow hash algorithm is superior to others hash algorithms. © 2008 IEEE.

SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) is used to solve visual tracking problem, where the appearances of the tracked object and scene background change during tracking. The implementation of this algorithm has five major stages: scale-space extrema detection;keypoint localization;orientation assignment;keypoint descriptor;keypoint matching. From the beginning frame, object is selected as the template, its SIFT features are computed. Then in the following frames, the SIFT features are computed. Euclidean distance between the object's SIFT features and the frames' SIFT features can be used to compute the accurate position of the matched object. The experimental results on real video sequences demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach and show this algorithm is of higher robustness and real-time performance. It can solve the matching problem with translation, rotation and affine distortion between images. It plays an important role in video object tracking and video object retrieval. © 2008 IEEE.
