This paper presents an improved method to teleoperate impedance of a robot based on surface electromyography (EMG) and test it experimentally. Based on a linear mapping between EMG amplitude and stiffness, an incremental stiffness extraction method is developed, which uses instantaneous amplitude identified from EMG in a high frequency band, compensating for non-linear residual error in the linear mapping and preventing muscle fatigue from affecting the control. Experiments on one joint of the Baxter robot are carried out to test the approach in a disturbance attenuation task, and to compare it with automatic human-like impedance adaptation. The experimental results demonstrate that the new human operated impedance method is successful at attenuating disturbance, and results similarly to as automatic disturbance attenuation, thus demonstrating its efficiency. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Finite impulse response (FIR) filtering is an ubiquitous operation in digital signal processing systems. It is generally implemented in full-custom style due to the high-speed and low-power design requirements. The hardware design of a FIR filter is mainly dominated by the multiplier block, which is generally implemented as a network of adders, subtractors and shifters for more efficiency in speed and power. In a recent work, a fully predictable and sublinear runtime heuristic for the multiplication by a constant has been developed. It is called RADIX-2 r . In this paper, RADIX-2 r is applied to the FIR filter design optimization. In comparison to the existing heuristics, RADIX-2 r exhibits the shortest adder-depth, leading therefore to the best results in speed and power.

This paper proposes a systematic gain setting method for the positive feedback anti-islanding scheme which is designed to protect the interconnected inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) from islanding operation. Two main factors affecting the performance of the anti-islanding scheme are investigated when the positive feedback gain is tuned. One is the stability impact of the anti-islanding control on distributed generation (DG) systems and the other is the islanding detection time of the anti-islanding scheme. The small-signal model and the electromagnetic transient simulation model of an inverter-based DG system are developed to facilitate the realization of the proposed gain setting method. This method provides a practical and reliable tool for DG planning engineers. ©2010 IEEE.

Workflow testing is an important method of workflow analysis in design time. A challenging problem with trace-oriented test data generation in particular and trace-based workflow analysis in general is the existence of infeasible traces for which there is no input data for them to be executed. In this paper we build on the theory of workflow nets and introduce workflow nets where transitions have conditions associated with them. We then demonstrate that we can determine which execution traces, that are possible according to the control-flow dependencies, are actually possible taking the data perspective into account. This way we are able to more accurately determine in design time the infeasible traces caused by the correlation between transition conditions along this trace. Finally, we provide a solution to automatically detecting the shortest infeasible trace.

This paper tackles the problem of generating safe exit controllers for continuous-time systems described by stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The primary aim is to develop controllers that maximize the lower bounds of the exit probability that the system escapes from a safe but uncomfortable set within a specified time frame and guide it towards a comfortable set. The paper considers two distinct cases: one in which the boundary of the safe set is a subset of the boundary of the uncomfortable set, and the other where the boundaries of the two sets do not intersect. To begin, we present a sufficient condition for establishing lower bounds on the exit probability in the first case. This condition serves as a guideline for constructing a point-wise optimization using linear programs. The linear programming problem is designed to implicitly synthesize an optimal exit controller online that maximizes the lower bounds of the exit probability. The method employed in the first case is then extended to the second one. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches on one example.

WebGIS applications are avidly gaining popularity with extensively development and use of GIS technology. By analyzing the current status of WebGIS, a Flash based WebGIS framework was developed. By converting the traditional GIS files such as ESRI Shapefile to the Shock Wave Flash (SWF) file format, the GIS data was highly compressed and suitable for the Internet publication. The technology was successfully applied to the monitoring and evaluating China's regional development system. The result shows that flash technology is smart, has easy configuration and fast speed in building WebGIS applications. Flash technology has great potential abilities in expressing spatial information and graphics rendering. To some extent, it's unique and better than the traditional WebGIS software in graphics dynamic rendering and especially useful for time-series data analysis using an animation method.

Rough set theory, proposed by Pawlak, has been proved to be a mathematical tool to deal with vagueness and uncertainty in intelligent information processing. In this paper, we propose the concept of knowledge granulation in interval-valued information systems, and discuss some important properties. From these properties, it can be shown that the proposed knowledge granulation provides important approaches to measuring the discernibility of different knowledge. It may be helpful for rule evaluation and knowledge discovery in interval-valued information systems. © 2011 IEEE.

Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function lab.ls are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific lab.ls, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function lab.ls at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function. © 2023 IEEE.

HHLPar: Automated Theorem Prover for Parallel Hybrid Communicating Sequential Processes

We present a tool called HHLPar for verifying hybrid systems modelled in Hybrid Communicating Sequential Processes (HCSP). HHLPar is built upon a Hybrid Hoare Logic for HCSP, which is able to reason about continuous-time properties of differential equations, as well as communication and parallel composition of parallel HCSP processes with the help of parameterised trace assertions and their synchronization. The logic was formalised and proved to be sound in Isabelle/HOL, which constitutes a trustworthy foundation for the verification conducted by HHLPar. HHLPar implements the Hybrid Hoare Logic in Python and supports automated verification: On one hand, it provides functions for symbolically decomposing HCSP processes, generating specifications for separate sequential processes and then composing them via synchronization to obtain the final specification for the whole parallel HCSP processes;On the other hand, it is integrated with external solvers for handling differential equations and real arithmetic properties. A fractal image coding method combined with compressed sensing algorithm

Purpose. Since fractal image coding is time-consuming and is prone to causing "blocking artifact", the article aims to combine fractal image coding, wavelet transform and compressed sensing to put forward a method which can shorten the coding time effectively and improve the quality of a reconstructed image. Methodology. The compressed sensing algorithm can quickly compress and highly restore sparse matrixes. The paper made use of this feature to conduct fractal coding for a low-frequency sub-image after wavelet transform, followed by recoding the samples of low-frequency differential sub-graphs and high-frequency sub-images by means of the compressed sensing algorithm for the purpose of compensating the quality of reconstructed images. Findings. Compared to the traditional fractal coding method, the algorithm in the paper (hereinafter referred to as "this Algorithm") can shorten the time considerably and get a maximum speed-up ratio by up to 6.45 times. Compared to the compressed sensing coding method, the quality of the reconstructed images is improved significantly. Originality. The innovation of the paper lies in applying the compressed sensing theory to the fractal coding algorithm to compensate the quality of the reconstructed images obtained by means of fractal coding based on wavelet transform. Practical value. This Algorithm can shorten the coding time on the basis of ensuring the quality of a reconstructed image, and has certain significance for promoting the fractal coding method. © Hui Guo, Jie He, Defa Hu, Weijin Jiang, 2016.
