Abnormal network traffic detection approach based on alive entropy

A novel alive entropy-based detection approach was proposed, which detects the abnormal network traffic based on the values of alive entropies. The alive entropies calculated based on the NetFlow data coming from the network traffic of input and output of a whole system, which is essentially a monitored network. In order to decrease false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, different scales are selected to compute the values of alive entropies in different sizes of network traffic. With the low false positive rate of abnormal network traffic, the abnormal network traffic can be effectively detected. Experiments carried out on a real campus network were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study illustrates that the proposed approach may easily detect the abnormal network traffic with random characteristics in comparison with some "conventional" approaches reported in the literatures.

Deductive verification of hybrid systems (HSs) increasingly attracts more attention in recent years because of its power and scalab.lity, where a powerful specification logic for HSs is the cornerstone. Often, HSs are naturally modelled by concurrent processes that communicate with each other. However, existing specification logics cannot easily handle such models. In this paper, we present a specification logic and proof system for Hybrid Communicating Sequential Processes (HCSP), that extends CSP with ordinary differential equations (ODE) and interrupts to model interactions between continuous and discrete evolution. Because it includes a rich set of algebraic operators, complicated hybrid systems can be easily modelled in an algebra-like compositional way in HCSP. Our logic can be seen as a generalization and simplification of existing hybrid Hoare logics (HHL) based on duration calculus (DC), as well as a conservative extension of existing Hoare logics for concurrent programs. Its assertion logic is the first-order theory of differential equations (FOD), together with assertions about traces recording communications, readiness, and continuous *** prove continuous relative completeness of the logic w.r.t. FOD, as well as discrete relative completeness in the sense that continuous behaviour can be arbitrarily approximated by discretization. Finally, we implement the above logic in Isabelle/HOL, and apply it to verify two case studies to illustrate the power and scalab.lity of our logic. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. In an attempt to enhance the efficiency of searching Web services across multiple sources, a discovery approach based on information retrieval technology was proposed, which was designed for multi-source web service. It could not only overcome the barrier among different publication strategies, but also support integrated management of diverse service description and the semantic information. The limitations of related work were analyzed and an original service discovery framework MWSD(Multi-source Web Service Discovery) was proposed. The function of each module was introduced in detail. Those mappings between different types of service description were illustrated. Results show that MWSD is capable of crawling multiple sources and establishing unified Web services' repository. It can support the complex semantic management of Web services and be applied to the discovery of the public Web services on the Internet.

In this paper, the problem of maximizing the sum rate of mobile users in a multi-base station (BS) cooperative millimeter-wave (mmWave) multicast communication system is studied. In the considered model, due to the real-time mobility of users, the users being served by a given BS and beamforming of BSs and users are dynamic. Multiple BSs must cooperate to serve dynamic requests of multiple mobile users. This problem is posed as an optimization framework whose goal is to maximize the sum rate of all mobile users by jointly optimizing the number of users served by all BSs and beamforming matrices of both BSs and users. To solve this non-convex optimization problem, we first introduce a value decomposition based reinforcement learning (VD- RL) algorithm to determine the users to be served by each BS. Then, we use the block diagonalization method to obtain the fully digital transmit beamforming matrices of all BSs as well as the receive beamforming matrices of the users. Finally, a fast optimization algorithm is used to optimize the hybrid beamforming matrices of both BSs and users. Simulation results show that, the proposed algorithm can achieve up to 51 % gain in terms of the sum rate of all mobile users compared to baseline multi-agent algorithms.

Improved entropy to estimate power for considering temporal correlation at high-level

The traditional entropy is an efficient method for high-level power estimation, but it doesn't work when the input signals are temporal correlated, as is always the case for video and audio streams. This paper aims at this problem. We put forward a new definition of entropy. With the help of the conditional transition probabilities, the proposed algorithm can bring us the estimations with adequate accuracy for temporal correlated inputs. The theoretical proofs and the BENCHMARK experimental results verify the efficiency of our algorithm.

On-edge multi-task transfer learning: Model and practice with data-driven task allocation

On edge devices, data scarcity occurs as a common problem where transfer learning serves as a widely-suggested remedy. Nevertheless, transfer learning imposes heavy computation burden to the resource-constrained edge devices. Existing task allocation works usually assume all submitted tasks are equally important, leading to inefficient resource allocation at a task level when directly applied in Multi-task Transfer Learning (MTL). To address these issues, we first reveal that it is crucial to measure the impact of tasks on overall decision performance improvement and quantify task importance. We then show that task allocation with task importance for MTL (TATIM) is a variant of NP-complete Knapsack problem, where the complicated computation to solve this problem needs to be conducted repeatedly under varying contexts. To solve TATIM with high computational efficiency, we propose a Data-driven Cooperative Task Allocation (DCTA) approach. Finally, we evaluate the performance of DCTA by not only a trace-driven simulation, but also a new comprehensive real-world AIOps case study which bridges model and practice via a new architecture and main components design within AIOps system. Extensive experiments show that our DCTA reduces 3.24 times of processing time, and saves 48.4% energy consumption compared with the state-of-the-art when solving TATIM. Software fault tolerance technique is used to ensure high reliability. In order to evaluate the quality of fault-tolerant systems, expected execution time and cost must be considered. A new evaluation strategy is proposed to evaluate, evaluating the system with three groups of quality factors, which is the capability, the time and the cost. By using them, the system's integrative quality factor can be calculated. When applying this strategy, we compare the quality of software systems which is consist of different fault-tolerant components. The results can be used to improve fault-tolerant system. To achieve the required optimal result, several optimization schemes are given to meet different project demands.

Wave propagation and diffusion in linear materials preserve local reciprocity in terms of a symmetric Green's function. For wave propagations, the relation between the fields entering and leaving a system is more relevant than the detailed information about the fields inside it. In such cases, the global reciprocity of the scattering off a system through several ports is more important, which is defined as the symmetric transmission between the scattering channels. When a two-port system supports nonreciprocal (electromagnetic, acoustic) wave propagation, it is a (optical, phonon) diode directly following the definition. However, to date no concrete definition or discussion has been made on the global reciprocity of diffusive processes through a multiple-port system. It thus remains unclear what are the differences and relations between the three concepts, namely, local nonreciprocity, global nonreciprocity, and diode effect in diffusion. Here, we provide theoretical analysis on the frequency-domain Green's function and define the global reciprocity of heat diffusion through a two-port system, which has a different setup from that of a thermal diode. We further prove the equivalence between a heat transfer system with broken steady-state global reciprocity and a thermal diode, assuming no temperature-dependent heat generation. The validities of some typical mechanisms in breaking the diffusive reciprocity and making a thermal diode have been discussed. Our results set a general background for future studies on symmetric and asymmetric diffusive processes.

An adaptive strategy was proposed for EH system. Modules of attack detection, feedback transmission and adaptive control were added to original EH system. They could help to make threats analysis and adjust hopping strategy in real time, so as to reduce the probability of the system stepping into the attackers' target area. With the experiments proving the anti-attack ability of the prototype system, the feasibility and effectiveness of adaptive strategy were demonstrated for EH system.

Pakistan faces severe air pollution and high dependency on imported fossil fuels for transportation, urgently needing solutions. Electrification of transportation could address these issues, but Pakistan lacks a clear roadmap for adopting electric vehicles. This paper examines the electrification of transportation in Pakistan, focusing on policies, technical aspects, and standards. It looks at best practices from developed countries and discusses incentives offered by the Pakistani government to boost electric vehicle adoption. The study also explores challenges and opportunities in adopting electric vehicles within existing power systems. A SWOT analysis is included, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to electric vehicle policies and market integration in Pakistan. By reviewing these factors, the paper provides insights into the obstacles and potential benefits of electric vehicle adoption. It also suggests ways for developing nations like Pakistan to encourage widespread use of electric vehicles, aiming to reduce fossil fuel dependency and meet environmental goals. © 2024
