A load balancing algorithm for multi-root ONS

In order to solve the overload problem of root ONS in the EPC network, a load balancing algorithm based on multi-root ONS is proposed. Based on the proposed load balancing ONS (LB ONS) architecture, the ONS Root is defined to have two states, idle or busy. According to CPU utilization and memory utilization of the ONS Root and in combination with threshold controlling to periodically update the ONS Root states, which makes the requests coming from client applications be transferred to an ONS Root which is idle. Experiment results show that the algorithm can reduce query hops and query delays effectively and offer lookup service efficiently. © 2014 Binary Information Press.

The goal of requirements elicitation is to understand the stakeholders' needs and constraints, and form the system requirements. But gathering requirements correctly, completely and understandably in a natural way is a great challenge to traditional methods, for requirements analysts always play key roles in the elicitation process dominantly while stakeholders participate in passively. Therefore, strategies that help the identification of requirements based on reducing the requirements analysts' dominance and promoting stake-holders' self-expression and self-improvement are welcomed. This paper reports a controlled experiment to evaluate the Business Process oriented Collab.rative Requirements Acquisition and Refining (BPCRAR) method. Compared to JAD, the statistical results show that the requirements elicited by BPCRAR are more complete and understandable. Besides that, the perceived usefulness, ease to learn, and ease of use of BPCRAR are all confirmed by the statistical data got from the questionnaire to the participants. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

The existing model simplification algorithm in simplified speed and quality can't reach a better compromise, so we present an improved quadric error metrics edge collapse mesh simplification algorithm. This algorithm makes the local region unevenness of vertex, the local region average area of vertex and edge length as constraint factors add to the edge collapse cost, by changing the order of the edge collapse to retain the important detail features of the original model. New vertex position is calculated on the different types of edge, keeping the boundary characteristics of the mesh model. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm not only runs faster, but also maintains a higher degree on the model feature region. © 2014 Binary Information Press.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an innovative and programmable networking architecture, representing the direction of the future network evolution. In this paper, we propose an architecture to introduce traffic classification techniques into the OpenFlow-based SDN network, which enables the network to be application-aware, so the network could distinguish various applications flows and know the requirements of different flows. Our new architecture also take advantage of the new intelligence to make the network forward traffic flows based flows' demands on bandwidth and delay, which could improve Quality of Service (QoS) of applications and optimize resource allocation all over the network. © 2014 IEEE.

Software Defined Radio (SDR) allows dynamically changing protocols and functions in order to provide flexible, multiple-standard services to users. A reconfigurable baseband architecture having a set of coarse-grained, heterogeneous execution units is one strategy which can meet this requirement. However, while we can integrate a large number of execution units onto a chip, conventional bus structures may not be able to support the amount of traffic between the functional units due to the shared nature of the bus. In this paper, an SDR baseband platform is mapped onto two different types of on-chip networks, a multicasting CDMA-based network and a conventional 2Dmesh network. Synthesis is performed for both cases using a 0.13 micron CMOS technology library and comparative results for performance and area are provided. ©2009 IEEE.

Spectrum sensing is a key technology of cognitive radio. The goal of spectrum sensing in this context is to achieve a high detection probability in order to avoid causing interference to the primary licensed users. Among the methods availab.e for spectrum sensing, energy detection has been widely applied in hardware implementations. However, since previous work has been based on the traditional FFT, the side leakage problem makes it difficult to detect a primary user adjacent to a strong signal. In this paper, we propose an all-phase FFT based wideband spectrum sensing processor. Simulation results show that it can increase the probability of detection of a primary user that is adjacent in frequency to a strong signal. It can also improve the receiver operating characteristic curve. Hardware implementation requirements are also given. © 2011 IEEE.

Second-order consensus seeking in multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics over random switching directed networks

This paper discusses the second-order local consensus problem for multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics over dynamically switching random directed networks. By applying the orthogonal decomposition method, the state vector of resulted error dynamical system can be decomposed as two transversal components, one of which evolves along the consensus manifold and the other evolves transversally with the consensus manifold. Several sufficient conditions for reaching almost surely second-order local consensus are derived for the cases of time-delay-free coupling and time-delay coupling, respectively. For the case of time-delay-free coupling, we find that if there exists one directed spanning tree in the network which corresponds to the fixed time-averaged topology and the switching rate of the dynamic network is not more than a critical value which is also estimated analytically, then second-order dynamical consensus can be guaranteed for the choice of suitable parameters. For the case of time-delay coupling, we not only prove that under some assumptions, the second-order consensus can be reached exponentially, but also give an analytical estimation of the upper bounds of convergence rate and the switching rate. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

An implantable passive radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor tag system-on-chip (SoC) for glucose monitoring is developed in this paper. A high frequency RFID tag, a bio-sensor interface, as well as the electrodes are included in this chip. The signal of blood sugar level from the bio-sensor is detected and converted into digital data, and then the data is encrypted and transmitted to an RFID reader on top of the skin. To measure the weak current signals, a current readout circuit, a current splitter, an ADC and a potentiostat are designed in the chip. Correlated double sample (CDS) technology is used in the readout circuit to reduce the 1/f noise and the op-amp's offset. The chip is taped out in SMIC 0.13 μm CMOS process. Simulation results show that the system can measure weak current signals in the range of 10 fA-100 pA. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper we propose two new design techniques for floating point arithmetic units used in DSP applications, and apply them in the design of two multi-operand units for high-radix FFTs. These two multi-operand arithmetic units are a Modified two term Dot Product (MDP) unit and a Multi-operand Add-Sub unit (MAS). A radix-4 FFT butterfly computation block is implemented efficiently with these multi-operand units. Synthesis results show that the butterfly unit built with our design is about 43% faster and 9.5% smaller than a conventional implementation. © 2011 IEEE.

Ground Test Platform for Space Teleoperation (GTPST) is a complicated distributed system consisted of multiple subsystems, and controlling it properly under large transmission delay is a huge challenge. Multi-agent system (MAS) is an effective method of solving distributed problems logically and physically, which has such merits as high adaptability, high reliability and easy to expand and maintain. The control model of GTPST is established based on MAS in this paper. Due to the limitation of the availab.e network bandwidth and the large time delay of satellite-ground links, we develop some applications based on mobile agent which can perform its execution locally on remote site, only return the final result or desired data back to local site. As no operation and communication between remote and local sites are needed during the execution of the mobile agent, valuable bandwidth can be reserved and saved. Meanwhile, communication protocols of MAS are improved and designed to increase the communication efficiency of the system. The availab.lity of the system is verified by the test the simulated service satellite (SSS) replaces cell unit for the simulated client satellite (SCS) finally. © 2009 IEEE.
