In this paper we describe our image annotation system par ticipated in the ImageCLEF 2013 scalab.e concept image annotation task. The system leverages multiple base classifiers, including single feature and multi-feature kNN classifiers and histogram intersection ker nel SVMs, all of which are learned from the provided 250K web images and provided features with no extra manual verification. These base clas sifiers are combined into a stacked model, with the combination weights optimized to maximize the geometric mean of F-samples, F-concepts, and AP-samples metrics on the provided development set. By varying the configuration of the system, we submitted five runs. Evaluation re sults show that for all of our runs, model stacking with optimized weights performs best. Our system can annotate diverse Internet images purely based on the visual content, at the following accuracy level: F-samples of 0.290, F-concepts of 0.304, and AP-samples of 0.380. What is more, a system-to-system comparison reveals that our system and the best sub mission this year are complementary with respect to the best annotated concepts, suggesting the potential for future improvement.

Given the proliferation of geo-tagged images, the question of how to exploit geo tags and the underlying geo context for visual search is emerging. Based on the observation that the importance of geo context varies over concepts, we propose a concept-based image search engine which fuses visual concept detection and geo context in a concept-dependent manner. Compared to individual content-based and geo-based concept detectors and their uniform combination, concept-dependent fusion shows improvements. Moreover, since the proposed search engine is trained on social-tagged images alone without the need of human interaction, it is flexible to cope with many concepts. Search experiments on 101 popular visual concepts justify the viability of the proposed solution. In particular, for 79 out of the 101 concepts, the learned weights yield improvements over the uniform weights, with a relative gain of at least 5% in terms of average precision. This paper presents an overview of the INEX 2011 data-Centric Track. Having the ad hoc search task running its second year, we introduced a new task, faceted search task, whose goal is to provide the infrastructure to investigate and evaluate different techniques and strategies of recommending facet-values to aid the user to navigate through a large set of query results and quickly identify the results of interest. The same IMDB collection as last year was used for both tasks. A total of 9 active participants contributed a total of 60 topics for both tasks and submitted 35 ad hoc search runs and 13 faceted search runs. A total of 38 ad hoc search topics were assessed, which included 18 subtopics for 13 faceted search topics. We discuss the setup for both tasks and the results obtained by their participants. © Springer-Verlag 2012.

We present XHATE-999, a multi-domain and multilingual evaluation data set for abusive language detection. By aligning test instances across six typologically diverse languages, XHATE-999 for the first time allows for disentanglement of the domain transfer and language transfer effects in abusive language detection. We conduct a series of domain- and language-transfer experiments with state-of-the-art monolingual and multilingual transformer models, setting strong baseline results and profiling XHATE-999 as a comprehensive evaluation resource for abusive language detection. Finally, we show that domain- and language-adaptation, via intermediate masked language modeling on abusive corpora in the target language, can lead to substantially improved abusive language detection in the target language in the zero-shot transfer setups. © 2020 COLING 2020 - 28th International Conference on Computational Linguistics, Proceedings of the Conference. The increasing availab.lity of massive mobile phone call data records (CDR) has opened new opportunities for analyzing and understanding real-life social phenomena and human dynamics. In order to better interpret this enormous amount of data it is useful to contextualize them with information about the circumstances under which they has been generated. Nowadays, linked open data initiative provide access to a huge amount of geo-time referenced knowledge about territory and events that happen in the territory. These informations can be used to characterize the aforementioned context. The aim of this Ph.D is to investigate on the intercorrelations between CDR, contexts, and human behaviors. The ultimate goal is to build a stochastic model, that can be used to predict semantic (qualitative) behavioral patterns on the basis of CDR traffic and context and identify and explain anomalous situations on the basis of deviations from standard CDR patterns.

Join is one of the most important operations in data analytics systems. Prior works focus mainly on join optimization using GPUs, but little is known about performance impact on the MICs. In order to investigate potential benefits of the use of MIC accelerators in improving performance of join operation, in this paper we design a join scheme with a CPU and MICs working collab.ratively. This scheme includes task partitioning, a data transfer mode, join algorithm design. Experimental results show that our collective join scheme is effective for a heterogeneous platform with two Xeon Phi cards, and can improve performance by up to 30 % over the CPU-only platform. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

In this paper we explore one of the key aspects in building an emotion recognition system: generating suitable feature representations. We generate feature representations from both acoustic and lexical levels. At the acoustic level, we first extract low-level features such as intensity, F0, jitter, shimmer and spectral contours etc. We then generate different acoustic feature representations based on these low-level features, including statistics over these features, a new representation derived from a set of low-level acoustic codewords, and a new representation from Gaussian Supervectors. At the lexical level, we propose a new feature representation named emotion vector (eVector). We also use the traditional Bag-of-Words (BoW) feature. We apply these feature representations for emotion recognition and compare their performance on the USC-IEMOCAP database. We also combine these different feature representations via early fusion and late fusion. Our experimental results show that late fusion of both acoustic and lexical features achieves four-class emotion recognition accuracy of 69.2%. © 2015 IEEE.

Relation prediction in knowledge graphs (KGs) aims at predicting missing relations in incomplete triples, whereas the dominant embedding paradigm has a restriction on handling unseen entities during testing. In the real-world scenario, the inductive setting is more common because entities in the training process are finite. Previous methods capture an inductive ability by implicit logic in KGs. However, it would be challenging to preciously acquire entity-independent relational semantics of compositional logic rules and to deal with the deficient supervision of logic caused by the scarcity of relational semantics. To this end, we propose a novel graph convolutional network (GCN)-based model LogCo with logical reasoning by contrastive representations. LogCo firstly extracts enclosing subgraphs and relational paths between two entities to supply the entity-independence. Then a contrastive strategy for relational path instances and the subgraph is proposed for the issue of deficient supervision. The contrastive representations are learned for a joint training regime. Finally, prediction results and logic rules for reasoning are attained. Comprehensive experiments on twelve inductive datasets show that LogCo achieves outstanding performance comparing with SOTA inductive baselines. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Association mining often produces large collections of association rules that are difficult to understand and put into action. In this paper, we have designed a novel notion of combined patterns to extract useful and actionable knowledge from a large amount of learned rules. We also present definitions of combined patterns, design novel metrics to measure their interestingness and analyze the redundancy in combined patterns. Experimental results on real-life social security data demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the proposed approach in extracting actionable knowledge from complex data. © 2008 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

In a world brimming with new products continually, novel waste types are ubiquitous. This makes current image-based garbage classification systems difficult to perform well due to the long-tailed effects of distribution of garbage types, and necessitates an urgent and efficient garbage classification with abilities of detecting new and rare wastes and class-incremental learning for environmental sustainability. Therefore, we propose a framework of Online System of Garbage Image-Oriented Intelligent Classification, Submission, and Examination, facilitating the incremental garbage classification efforts. In which, to identify novel garbage effectively, we also introduced few-shot object detection method with two key algorithms: Two-Stage Object Detection Learning Algorithm and Dynamic Query-based Incremental Few-shot Learning Algorithm. Our experiment results show that Both outperform the current existing ones in dataset, MS COCO. Then, a strategy of Class-Incremental learning based Residual Network is proposed to meet the need of new waste class-incremental learning. The experimental results support our strategy. Finally, a prototype system employed the above algorithms and the strategy is described. © 2024 IEEE.
