According to the morphologic character of cells, a simple way based on the circular aperture diffraction is put forward in the paper. Cells in different states, such as normal living cells, apoptosis cells, necrosis cells, can be differentiated easily and the quantities and the quantities ratio of cells in different states can be got in this way. The diameter of sample cell can be measured accurately by the circular aperture diffraction combined with CCD. The frame diagram of measuring the size of cells based on the circular diffraction and CCD is presented, as well as the Principle of method in the paper. Using the method presented in the paper, the apoptosis and necrosis situations of leukaemia tumour cell HL60 were measured. The experiment results showed that the results of quantities and the quantities ratios of HL60 cells in different states such as apoptosis and necrosis measured by the method presented in the paper were consistent with the results measured by the other accepted method.

Update management is very important for data integration systems. So update management in peer data management systems (PDMSs) is a hot research area. This paper researches on view maintenance in PDMSs. First, the definition of view is extended and the peer view, local view and global view are proposed according to the requirements of applications. There are two main factors to influence materialized views in PDMSs. One is that schema mappings between peers are changed, and the other is that peers update their data. Based on the requirements, this paper proposes an algorithm called 2DCMA, which includes two sub-algorithms: data and definition consistency maintenance algorithm% to effectively maintain views. For data consistency maintenance, Mork's rules are extended for governing the use of updategrams and boosters. The new rule system can be used to optimize the execution plan. And are extended for the data consistency maintenance algorithm is based on the new rule system. Furthermore, an ECA rule is adopted for definition consistency maintenance. Finally, extensive simulation experiments are conducted in SPDMS. The simulation results show that the 2DCMA algorithm has better performance than that of Mork's when maintaining data consistency. And the 2DCMA algorithm has better performance than that of centralized view maintenance algorithm when maintaining definition consistency.

Efficient reconfigurable VLSI architecture for 1-D 5/3 and 9/7 wavelet transforms adopted in JPEG2000 proposal, based on lifting scheme is proposed. The embedded decimation technique based on fold and time multiplexing, as well as embedded boundary data extension technique, is adopted to optimize the design of the architecture. These reduce significantly the required numbers of the multipliers, adders and registers, as well as the amount of accessing external memory, and lead to decrease efficiently the hardware cost and power consumption of the design. The architecture is designed to generate an output per clock cycle, and the detailed component and the approximation of the input signal are availab.e alternately. Experimental simulation and comparison results are presented, which demonstrate that the proposed architecture has lower hardware complexity, thus it is adapted for embedded applications. The presented architecture is simple, regular and scalab.e, and well suited for VLSI implementation.

Though controlling the coating reflectivity and intracavity diffraction loss, in the four cavity mirror configuration, a dual-wavelength continuous wave (cw) diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG laser that generates simultaneously at wavelengths of 1064 nm and 1319 nm is demonstrated. The relationship between power ratio of the two wavelengths and cavity length is studied. The cw dual-wavelength output power reaches 85 W when the average pump power is more than 500 W. The output power of respective wavelength exceeds 40 W, which is the best record as we know.

A diode-pumped Q-cw (quasi-continuous wave) with simultaneous dual-wavelength laser operation at 744.8 nm and 860.9 nm in a single Ti: sapphire crystal is demonstrated. The birefringent filter is employed as the tuning apparatus for its low loss. A total output power of 4.8 W at the two wavelengths was achieved at the incident pump power of 23 W. To our knowledge, this is the highest value of the all-solid-state quasi-continuous dual-wavelength lasers which employ the Ti: sapphire as the gain medium.

The microstructure and phase constituent for the Mg/Al diffusion bonded joint were studied via scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The test results indicated that the new compact phase was formed near the transition region of Mg/Al diffusion interface. There are three new phase layers in the transition region. The fracture morphology mainly consists of coarse and gray fracture, and the fracture is mainly the mixed fracture of cleavage and brittleness. X-ray diffraction test indicate that the diffusion zone of Mg/Al diffusion bonded joint consists of intermetallic compounds MgAl, Mg3Al2 and Mg2Al3.
