The Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems use sensors to detect the daily behavior of older adults and provide necessary assistance based on changes in their cognitive status and physical functions, thus enabling older adults to maintain their independence at home. However, the effectiveness of the AAL systems depends on the accuracy of the data provided by sensors. Namely, when a human error or a hardware failure occurs, the activity recognition model can become inaccurate. This inaccuracy hinders the identification of critical and potentially life-threatening activities. Although there are many methods for cleaning sensor data, there is no method for binary sensors deployed in smart homes. By considering noisy sensor events and unintentional forgetting of turning off the device, this paper proposes two clustering-based methods for denoising and splitting binary sensor events to address possible inaccuracy due to the two mentioned problems. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by the experiments using four machine learning models and three real-world smart home datasets and adopting different sensor configurations. The experimental results demonstrate that compared to the original unprocessed datasets, by combining the two proposed methods, the average accuracy and F-measure are improved by 15.00% and 17.25%, respectively. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, a compact broadband amplifier is realized based on 65nm CMOS technology. The three differential CMOS pairs adopt the common source (CS) structure, rely on the capacitance neutralization technology and use the transformer for impedance transformation to achieve ultra-wideband matching. The simulation results show that in FR2 frequency band (24.26 - 52.6GHz), the output gain of the amplifier is 17±2.5dB, the DC power consumption is 45mW, the supply voltage is 1V, and the core circuit area is 0.11mm2.

It is imperative to assure the security of smart contracts via intelligent vulnerability detection tools before deploying smart contracts on blockchains. The existing deep learning-based approaches fail to effectively capture the rich syntax and semantic information embedded in smart contracts. In this paper, we detect smart contract vulnerabilities at the function level by constructing a novel semantic graph (SG) for each function and learning the SGs using a new graph convolutional network EA-RGCN. Our proposed method consists of three stages. In the first stage, we create the SG which characterizes rich data-data, instruction-instruction and instruction-data relationships in the function code. In the second stage, we propose EA-RGCN which contains three parts: node and edge representation via word2vec, content feature extraction with a residual GCN (RGCN) module, and semantic feature extraction using an edge attention (EA) module. Finally, we concatenate the code content features and the semantic features to obtain the global code feature and use a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to identify whether the function is vulnerable. We conduct experiments on the dataset constructed from real-world smart contracts. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed semantic graph and the EA-RGCN model can achieve superior performance. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Event detection, an important research topic of information extraction, aims to automatically identify and classify event instances from the text. Previous studies have introduced methods combining syntactic information and graph convolutional networks into the field of event detection and verified their effectiveness. However, such methods often ignore the high-order information on the syntactic tree with noisy words, which limits their classification quality. In this paper, we propose a deep symmetric graph convolutional network to organically integrate high-order and low-order syntactic information to strengthen the semantic features of sentences. Specifically, we design a skip connection with attention gating mechanism, which selects valuable low-order syntactic information under the supervision of high-order syntactic information to strengthen the aggregation of high-order and low-order syntactic information. Then, a graph perturbation mechanism is proposed to discard noisy nodes on the syntactic graph to reduce the noisy information in the high-order syntactic information. We conducted extensive experiments on the widely used ACE 2005 benchmark, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Event Detection (ED) aims to recognize instances of specified types of event triggers in text. Existing graph neural network-based models have achieved promising progress to alleviate this problem by capturing different orders of syntactic information, but they are limited by two issues. First, the long-range syntactic information between words is not fully exploited. Second, they ignore the semantic information provided by dependency lab.ls which provide linguistic knowledge that is useful to ED. As a result, we proposed a lab.l-enhanced dense graph convolutional network that employs dense connectivity and Graph Transformer Networks (GTN) to learn a flexible selection of edge types and composite relations between the words. Each layer can make use of the collective knowledge of dense blocks in order to model syntactic dependencies over long distances through dense connectivity. The proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance for ED on common datasets after extensive experiments are conducted to show its advantages.

Highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber with D-shaped air holes for terahertz (THz) application

A new type of high birefringence terahertz (THz) band photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed. D-shaped air holes are introduced into the core of the PCF and the cladding near the core. Some important parameters of this waveguide were researched in the range of 0.6–1.2 THz. The simulation results show that the proposed fiber has a high birefringence of 0.0425 at 0.7 THz. In addition, the confinement loss and the effective mode area are respectively 6.63 × 10−7 dB/m and 0.77 × 105 μm2, when the operating frequency is 1 THz and the high birefringence of 0.04 is maintained. At the same time, very low bending loss and near zero flat positive dispersion are obtained. And has single-mode operating characteristics in the entire research frequency range. The PCF structure will provide new solutions for the application of THz waves and the design of THz waveguides. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH. All rights reserved.

Human pose estimation has given rise to a broad spectrum of novel and compelling applications, including action recognition, sports analysis, as well as surveillance. However, accurate video pose estimation remains an open challenge. One aspect that has been overlooked so far is that existing methods learn motion clues from all pixels rather than focusing on the target human body, making them easily misled and disrupted by unimportant information such as background changes or movements of other people. Additionally, while the current Transformer-based pose estimation methods has demonstrated impressive performance with global modeling, they struggle with local context perception and precise positional identification. In this paper, we try to tackle these challenges from three aspects: (1) We propose a bilayer Human-keypoint Mask module that performs coarse-to-fine visual token refinement, which gradually zooms in on the target human body and keypoints while masking out unimportant figure regions. (2) We further introduce a novel deformable cross attention mechanism and a bidirectional separation strategy to adaptively aggregate spatial and temporal motion clues from constrained surrounding contexts. (3) We mathematically formulate the deformable cross attention, constraining that the model focuses solely on the regions centered at the target person body. Empirically, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on three large-scale benchmark datasets. A remarkable highlight is that our method achieves an 84.8 mean Average Precision (mAP) on the challenging wrist joint, which significantly outperforms the 81.5 mAP achieved by the current state-of-the-art method on the PoseTrack2017 dataset. Grasping the intricacies of human motion, which involve perceiving spatio-temporal dependence and multi-scale effects, is essential for predicting human motion. While humans inherently possess the requisite skills to navigate this issue, it proves to be markedly more challenging for machines to emulate. To bridge the gap, we propose the Human-like Vision and Inference System (HVIS) for human motion prediction, which is designed to emulate human observation and forecast future movements. HVIS comprises two components: the human-like vision encode (HVE) module and the human-like motion inference (HMI) module. The HVE module mimics and refines the human visual process, incorporating a retina-analog component that captures spatiotemporal information separately to avoid unnecessary crosstalk. Additionally, a visual cortex-analogy component is designed to hierarchically extract and treat complex motion features, focusing on both global and local features of human poses. The HMI is employed to simulate the multi-stage learning model of the human brain. The spontaneous learning network simulates the neuronal fracture generation process for the adversarial generation of future motions. Subsequently, the deliberate learning network is optimized for hard-to-train joints to prevent misleading learning. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves new state-of-the-art performance, significantly outperforming existing methods by 19.8% on Human3.6M, 15.7% on CMU Mocap, and 11.1% on G3D. © 2025, CC BY.

Human pose estimation in videos remains a challenge, largely due to the reliance on extensive manual annotation of large datasets, which is expensive and lab.r-intensive. Furthermore, existing approaches often struggle to capture long-range temporal dependencies and overlook the complementary relationship between temporal pose heatmaps and visual features. To address these limitations, we introduce STDPose, a novel framework that enhances human pose estimation by learning spatiotemporal dynamics in sparsely-lab.led videos. STDPose incorporates two key innovations: 1) A novel Dynamic-Aware Mask to capture long-range motion context, allowing for a nuanced understanding of pose changes. 2) A system for encoding and aggregating spatiotemporal representations and motion dynamics to effectively model spatiotemporal relationships, improving the accuracy and robustness of pose estimation. STDPose establishes a new performance benchmark for both video pose propagation (i.e., propagating pose annotations from lab.led frames to unlab.led frames) and pose estimation tasks, across three large-scale evaluation datasets. Additionally, utilizing pseudo-lab.ls generated by pose propagation, STDPose achieves competitive performance with only 26.7% lab.led data.
