Many daily applications are generating massive amount of data in the form of stream at an ever higher speed, such as medical data, clicking stream, internet record and banking transaction, etc. In contrast to the traditional static data, data streams are of some inherent properties, to name a few, infinite length, concept drift, multiple lab.ls and concept evolution. Among all the data mining tasks, classification is one of the basic topics in data stream mining and has gained more and more attentions among different research communities. Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) has drawn much interests in data classification due to its high efficiency, universal approximation capability, generalization ability, and simplicity, which have greatly inspired the development of many ELM-based algorithms and their applications during the past decades. In this paper, we mainly provide a comprehensive review on ELM theoretical research and its variants in data stream classification, and categorize these algorithms from different perspectives. Firstly, we briefly introduce the basic principles of ELM and its characteristics. Secondly, we give an overview of different ELM variants to address the particular issues of data stream classification. Thirdly, we present an overview of different strategies to optimize the ELM, which have further improved the stability, accuracy and generalization ability of ELM, and briefly introduce some practical applications of ELM in data stream classification. Finally, we conduct several groups of experiments to compare the performance of ELM based models addressing the focused issues. Also, the open issues and prospects of ELM models used for stream classification are discussed, which are worthwhile to be further studied in the future. © 2022

The low-altitude economy (LAE), as a new economic paradigm, plays an indispensable role in cargo transportation, healthcare, infrastructure inspection, and especially post-disaster communication. Specifically, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as one of the core technologies of the LAE, can be deployed to provide communication coverage, facilitate data collection, and relay data for trapped users, thereby significantly enhancing the efficiency of post-disaster response efforts. However, conventional UAV self-organizing networks exhibit low reliability in long-range cases due to their limited onboard energy and transmit ability. Therefore, in this paper, we design an efficient and robust UAV-swarm enabled collab.rative self-organizing network to facilitate post-disaster communications. Specifically, a ground device transmits data to UAV swarms, which then use collab.rative beamforming (CB) technique to form virtual antenna arrays and relay the data to a remote access point (AP) efficiently. Then, we formulate a rescue-oriented post-disaster transmission rate maximization optimization problem (RPTRMOP), aimed at maximizing the transmission rate of the whole network. Given the challenges of solving the formulated RPTRMOP by using traditional algorithms, we propose a two-stage optimization approach to address it. In the first stage, the optimal traffic routing and the theoretical upper bound on the transmission rate of the network are derived. In the second stage, we transform the formulated RPTRMOP into a variant named V-RPTRMOP based on the obtained optimal traffic routing, aimed at rendering the actual transmission rate closely approaches its theoretical upper bound by optimizing the excitation current weight and the placement of each participating UAV via a diffusion model-enabled particle swarm optimization (DM-PSO) algorithm. An Empirical Study on Information Extraction using Large Language Models

Human-like large language models (LLMs), especially the most powerful and popular ones in OpenAI’s GPT family, have proven to be very helpful for many natural language processing (NLP) related tasks. Therefore, various attempts have been made to apply LLMs to information extraction (IE), which is a fundamental NLP task that involves extracting information from unstructured plain text. To demonstrate the latest representative progress in LLMs’ information extraction ability, we assess the information extraction ability of GPT-4 (the latest version of GPT at the time of writing this paper) from four perspectives: Performance, Evaluation Criteria, Robustness, and Error Types. Our results suggest a visible performance gap between GPT-4 and state-of-the-art (SOTA) IE methods. To alleviate this problem, considering the LLMs’ human-like characteristics, we propose and analyze the effects of a series of simple prompt-based methods, which can be generalized to other LLMs and NLP tasks. Rich experiments show our methods’ effectiveness and some of their remaining issues in improving GPT-4’s information extraction ability. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the impressive achievements of chatGPT and Sora, generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has received increasing attention. Not limited to the field of content generation, GAI is also widely used to solve the problems in wireless communication scenarios due to its powerful learning and generalization capabilities. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GAI in improving unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication and networking performance in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GAI and the important roles of UAV networking. Then, we show how GAI can improve the communication, networking, and security performances of UAV systems. Subsequently, we propose a novel framework of GAI for advanced UAV networking, and then present a case study of UAV-enabled spectrum map estimation and transmission rate optimization based on the proposed framework to verify the effectiveness of GAI-enabled UAV systems. Finally, we discuss some important open directions. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and semantic networks, knowledge graphs have received extensive attention in various application domains. As a domain knowledge graph, a genealogical knowledge graph has significant research value in the family blood, family culture, and medical genetic analysis. However, as the identical relationship often has different names and complex relationships such as divorce, remarriage, and polygamy, the reasoning based on the genealogical knowledge graph is a challenging task. In response to this problem, we propose a scheme for kinship reasoning in the genealogical knowledge graph. First, based on real genealogical revision experiences, a character ontology framework in the genealogical knowledge graph is defined, and basic kinship reasoning rules are designed. Then, given different definitions of kinship in different surnames, the solution of custom reasoning rules is integrated into the reasoning framework. In addition, aiming at complex relationships in family trees, such as multiple generations of ancestors and multiple wives, a series of inference optimization methods are proposed. Finally, we implement this scheme in the Huapu system, and the experimental results conducted on a real genealogical dataset demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of our proposed scheme.

The theory of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) is a generalization of the standard stabilizer quantum error-correcting codes, which can be possibly constructed from any classical codes by relaxing the duality condition and utilizing preshared entanglement between the sender and receiver. In this paper, a new family of EAQECCs is constructed from negacyclic codes of length n = q2a+1, where q is an odd prime power, a = m22+1 and m is an odd integer. Some new entanglement-assisted quantum maximum distance separable (EAQMDS) codes are obtained in the sense that their parameters are not covered by the previously known ones. Computed Tomography (CT) is an imaging technique widely used in clinical diagnosis. However, high-attenuation metallic implants result in the obstruction of low-energy Xrays and further lead to metal artifacts in the reconstructed CT images. Deep supervised model-based metal artifact reduction(MAR) approaches are limited in clinical applications due to the difficulty in obtaining paired artifact-affected and artifactfree data. Furthermore, these model-based methods lack the consideration of data consistency in the sinogram-domain to perform exact metal trace inpainting. To address these challenges, we propose a data-consistent unsupErVised diffusiOn model for meTal artifact rEDuction, called DEVOTED-Net. First, DEVOTED-Net leverages prior knowledge to guide the conditional diffusion model for fine-grained metal trace inpainting. Second, an unsupervised MAR framework is designed in the reverse process for the unknown metal traces restoration in the sinogram domain. Third, to further enhance the sinogram-domain data consistency, physics-based consistency constraint loss including conjugateray consistency loss and accumulation-ray consistency loss is designed. Extensive experiments are carried out to verify the performance of our algorithm on the publicly availab.e dataset and clinical experimental dataset. This efficient, accurate, and reliable MAR approach holds great potential in clinics. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly developed through advancements in computational power and the growth of massive datasets. However, this progress has also heightened challenges in interpreting the "black-box" nature of AI models. To address these concerns, eXplainable AI (XAI) has emerged with a focus on transparency and interpretability to enhance human understanding and trust in AI decision-making processes. In the context of multimodal data fusion and complex reasoning scenarios, the proposal of Multimodal eXplainable AI (MXAI) integrates multiple modalities for prediction and explanation tasks. Meanwhile, the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) has led to remarkable breakthroughs in natural language processing, yet their complexity has further exacerbated the issue of MXAI. To gain key insights into the development of MXAI methods and provide crucial guidance for building more transparent, fair, and trustworthy AI systems, we review the MXAI methods from a historical perspective and categorize them across four eras: traditional machine learning, deep learning, discriminative foundation models, and generative LLMs. We also review evaluation metrics and datasets used in MXAI research, concluding with a discussion of future challenges and directions. Medical image segmentation plays a crucial role in computer-aided diagnosis. However, existing methods heavily rely on fully supervised training, which requires a large amount of lab.led data with time-consuming pixel-wise annotations. Moreover, accurately segmenting lesions poses challenges due to variations in shape, size, and location. To address these issues, we propose a novel Dual-scale Enhanced and Cross-generative consistency learning framework for semi-supervised medical image Segmentation (DEC-Seg). First, we propose a Cross-level Feature Aggregation (CFA) module that integrates cross-level adjacent layers to enhance the feature representation ability across different resolutions. To address scale variation, we present a scale-enhanced consistency constraint, which ensures consistency in the segmentation maps generated from the same input image at different scales. This constraint helps handle variations in lesion sizes and improves the robustness of the model. Furthermore, we propose a cross-generative consistency scheme, in which the original and perturbed images can be reconstructed using cross-segmentation maps. This consistency constraint allows us to mine effective feature representations and boost the segmentation performance. To produce more accurate segmentation maps, we propose a Dual-scale Complementary Fusion (DCF) module that integrates features from two scale-specific decoders operating at different scales. Extensive experimental results on polyp segmentation from colonoscopy images, skin lesion segmentation from dermoscopic images, and Brain glioma segmentation from MRI images demonstrate the effectiveness of our DEC-Seg against other state-of-the-art semi-supervised segmentation approaches. © 2024, The Authors.
