Recently, graph convolutional network (GCN) has progressed significantly and gained increasing attention in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification due to its impressive representation power. However, existing GCN-based methods do not give full consideration to the multiscale spatial information, since the convolution operations are governed by fixed neighborhood. As a result, their performances can be limited, particularly in the regions with diverse land cover appearances. In this article, we develop a new dual interactive GCN (DIGCN) which introduces the dual GCN branches to capture spatial information at different scales. More significantly, the dual interactive module is embedded across the GCN branches, so that the correlation of multiscale spatial information can be leveraged to refine the graph information. To be concrete, the edge information contained in one GCN branch can be refined by incorporating the feature representations from the other branch. Analogously, improved feature representations can be generated in one GCN branch by fusing the edge information from the other branch. As such, the refined graph information can help enhance the representation power of the model. Furthermore, to avoid the negative effects of the manually constructed graph, our proposed model adaptively learns a discriminative region-induced graph, which also accelerates the convolution operation. We comprehensively evaluate the proposed method on four commonly used HSI benchmark data sets, and the state-of-the-art results can be achieved when compared with several typical HSI classification methods. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

The development of novel nanomaterials with synergistic biological effects has attracted extensive interest of the researchers. In the study, KTO with the doping amount of 0.5 mol% Ag and 0.5 mol% Cu (0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO) nanomaterial was successfully synthesized using two-step method of sol-gel and hydrothermal. The crystal structure of 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO was still monoclinic KTO, Ag and Cu ions replacing partial Ti ions of KTO lattice. High specific surface area of 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO (337.6 m 2 /g) provides more surface active sites for adsorption and Cu-Ag doping. More negative surface zeta potential (-32.83 mV in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) and -21.45 mV in physiological saline solution (PSS), respectively) would be beneficial to prevent the aggregation of the nanowires in physiological environment. Under the same doping amount, compared to single Cu doped KTO with the doping amount of 1.0 mol%, 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO exhibited better antibacterial performance against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria at only 100 μg/mL dose concentration, near to 1.0 mol% Ag doped KTO. And 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO showed more excellent biocompatibility than 1.0 Ag-KTO, which was attribute to the introduction of Cu ions effectively decreasing the hemolytic and cytotoxic risks from Ag ions. As expected, the synthesized 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO nanowires demonstrated excellent structural stability, high antibacterial activity, good hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility owing to the synergistic biological effects of Cu and Ag ions. 0.5 Ag-0.5 Cu-KTO nanowires will be a promising antimicrobial candidate for biomedical applications. © 2022, The Authors. CPED: A Large-Scale Chinese Personalized and Emotional Dialogue dataset for Conversational AI

Human language expression is based on the subjective construal of the situation instead of the objective truth conditions, which means that speakers’ personalities and emotions after cognitive processing have an important influence on conversation. However, most existing datasets for conversational AI ignore human personalities and emotions, or only consider part of them. It’s difficult for dialogue systems to understand speakers’ personalities and emotions although large-scale pre-training language models have been widely used. In order to consider both personalities and emotions in the process of conversation generation, we propose CPED, a large-scale Chinese personalized and emotional dialogue dataset, which consists of multi-source knowledge related to empathy and personal characteristic. These knowledge covers gender, Big Five personality traits, 13 emotions, 19 dialogue acts and 10 scenes. CPED contains more than 12K dialogues of 392 speakers from 40 TV shows. We release the textual dataset with audio features and video features according to the copyright claims, privacy issues, terms of service of video platforms. We provide detailed description of the CPED construction process and introduce three tasks for conversational AI, including personality recognition, emotion recognition in conversations as well as personalized and emotional conversation generation. Finally, we provide baseline systems for these tasks and consider the function of speakers’ personalities and emotions on conversation. Our motivation is to propose a dataset to be widely adopted by the NLP community as a new open benchmark for conversational AI research. The full dataset is availab.e1 © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

Noise-Tolerant Learning for Audio-Visual Action Recognition

Recently, video recognition is emerging with the help of multi-modal learning, which focuses on integrating distinct modalities to improve the performance or robustness of the model. Although various multi-modal learning methods have been proposed and offer remarkable recognition results, almost all of these methods rely on high-quality manual annotations and assume that modalities among multi-modal data provide semantically relevant information. Unfortunately, the widely used video datasets are usually coarse-annotated or collected from the Internet. Thus, it inevitably contains a portion of noisy lab.ls and noisy correspondence. To address this challenge, we use the audio-visual action recognition task as a proxy and propose a noise-tolerant learning framework to find anti-interference model parameters against both noisy lab.ls and noisy correspondence. Specifically, our method consists of two phases that aim to rectify noise by the inherent correlation between modalities. First, a noise-tolerant contrastive training phase is performed to make the model immune to the possible noisy-lab.led data. Despite the benefits brought by contrastive training, it would overfit the noisy correspondence and thus provide false supervision. To alleviate the influence of noisy correspondence, we propose a cross-modal noise estimation component to adjust the consistency between different modalities. As the noisy correspondence existed at the instance level, we further propose a category-level contrastive loss to reduce its interference. Second, in the hybrid-supervised training phase, we calculate the distance metric among features to obtain corrected lab.ls, which are used as complementary supervision to guide the training. Furthermore, due to the lack of suitable datasets, we establish a benchmark of real-world noisy correspondence in audio-visual data by relab.ling the Kinetics dataset. Human beings not only have the ability to recognize novel unseen classes, but also can incrementally incorporate the new classes to existing knowledge preserved. However, zero-shot learning models assume that all seen classes should be known beforehand, while incremental learning models cannot recognize unseen classes. This paper introduces a novel and challenging task of Incrementally Zero-Shot Detection (IZSD), a practical strategy for both zero-shot learning and class-incremental learning in real-world object detection. An innovative end-to-end model - IZSD-EVer was proposed to tackle this task that requires incrementally detecting new classes and detecting the classes that have never been seen. Specifically, we propose a novel extreme value analyzer to detect objects from old seen, new seen, and unseen classes, simultaneously. Additionally and technically, we propose two innovative losses, i.e., background-foreground mean squared error loss alleviating the extreme imbalance of the background and foreground of images, and projection distance loss aligning the visual space and semantic spaces of old seen classes. Experiments demonstrate the efficacy of our model in detecting objects from both the seen and unseen classes, outperforming the alternative models on Pascal VOC and MSCOCO datasets.

Relation extraction is an important information extraction task in many Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications, such as automatic knowledge graph construction, question answering, sentiment analysis, etc. However, relation extraction suffers from inappropriate associations between entities when the background knowledge of corpus is insufficiency. Despite the preprocessed external word vector bases can ease this problem, how to find a single word vector base as domain knowledge that contains all the required knowledge features is a huge challenge, and relation extraction with background knowledge is still open to further optimization. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose Relation Extraction method with Proactive Domain Adaptation Strategy (REPDAS for short) to introduce more knowledge features from different knowledge bases. More specifically, firstly, a convolutional network with a parameter-sharing layer is introduced for relation extraction, and word seeds that are important to relational feature exploitation are proactively picked by an attention mechanism during training. Secondly, the proactively-chosen word seeds and the previous parameter-sharing layer are utilized to establish a map between different domains. Our proposed method selectively avails both background knowledge and contextual features for relation extraction by incorporating the convolutional neural network with the proactively domain adaptation strategy. Experiments show that our method effectively enhances the performance of relation extraction compared with other baselines. © 2020 IEEE.

Recommending courses in MOOCs for jobs: An auto weak supervision approach

The proliferation of massive open online courses (MOOCs) demands an effective way of course recommendation for jobs posted in recruitment websites, especially for the people who take MOOCs to find new jobs. Despite the advances of supervised ranking models, the lack of enough supervised signals prevents us from directly learning a supervised ranking model. This paper proposes a general automated weak supervision framework (AutoWeakS) via reinforcement learning to solve the problem. On the one hand, the framework enables training multiple supervised ranking models upon the pseudo lab.ls produced by multiple unsupervised ranking models. On the other hand, the framework enables automatically searching the optimal combination of these supervised and unsupervised models. Systematically, we evaluate the proposed model on several datasets of jobs from different recruitment websites and courses from a MOOCs platform. Experiments show that our model significantly outperforms the classical unsupervised, supervised and weak supervision baselines. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is one of the fastest developing technologies in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), which has made great contributions to improving traffic congestion and reducing traffic accidents. As it is deployed in an open environment, security and privacy are threatened to a certain extent. Moreover, there are huge data exchanges in high traffic areas, which require VANET system to improve computing efficiency while ensuring communication security. To solve the above issues, this paper proposes a cloud-assisted road condition monitoring (RCM) system. The trusted authority (TA) monitors the road conditions with the help of the cloud server. The vehicle collects the road condition information of the road section managed by the roadside unit (RU), and only the vehicles authorized by the administrative roadside unit can successfully upload the road condition reports to the cloud server. The cloud server divides the road condition reports into different equivalence classes, in this way to report the emergency to the TA when the reported quantity exceeds the threshold. Security analysis showed that the proposed RCM system can effectively protect the security and privacy of road condition reports in VANETs.

MutexMatch: Semi-Supervised Learning with Mutex-Based Consistency Regularization

The core issue in semi-supervised learning (SSL) lies in how to effectively leverage unlab.led data, whereas most existing methods tend to put a great emphasis on the utilization of high-confidence samples yet seldom fully explore the usage of low-confidence samples. In this paper, we aim to utilize low-confidence samples in a novel way with our proposed mutex-based consistency regularization, namely MutexMatch. Specifically, the high-confidence samples are required to exactly predict "what it is" by conventional True-Positive Classifier, while low-confidence samples are employed to achieve a simpler goal — to predict with ease "what it is not" by True-Negative Classifier. In this sense, we not only mitigate the pseudo-lab.ling errors but also make full use of the low-confidence unlab.led data by consistency of dissimilarity degree. MutexMatch achieves superior performance on multiple benchmark datasets, i.e., CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, SVHN, STL-10, mini-ImageNet and Tiny-ImageNet. More importantly, our method further shows superiority when the amount of lab.led data is scarce, e.g., 92.23% accuracy with only 20 lab.led data on CIFAR-10.
