Method for constructing G2 continuous splines via matrices decomposition

Semi-G2 basis functions are introduced, the degree of which is larger than three. These basis functions are expressed explicitly via matrices decomposition. Based on them, equations for constructing G2 splines can be presented independently of geometric shape parameters' values. It makes the equation's solving easier. Analysis shows that this method may be extended to be applicable for constructing Gn splines.

Semantic segmentation is a basic task in computer vision, but only limited attention has been devoted to the ultra-high-resolution (UHR) image segmentation. Since UHR images occupy too much memory, they cannot be directly put into GPU for training. Previous methods are cropping images to small patches or downsampling the whole images. Cropping and downsampling cause the loss of contexts and details, which is essential for segmentation accuracy. To solve this problem, we improve and simplify the local and global feature fusion method in previous works. Local features are extracted from patches and global features are from downsampled images. Meanwhile, we propose one new fusion called local feature fusion for the first time, which can make patches get information from surrounding patches. We call the network with these two fusions ultra-high-resolution segmentation network (UHRSNet). These two fusions can effectively and efficiently solve the problem caused by cropping and downsampling. Experiments show a remarkable improvement on Deepglobe dataset [1].

This paper presents an efficient and robust automatic process for large-scale sports video analysis. The proposed system firstly identifies the genre of the query video, and then accomplishes the interesting event detection task. The significance of this framework is its automatic characteristic in testing with minimum human involvement in training, as well as the scalab.lity and expansibility in dealing with a large-scale dataset. Domain-knowledge independent local features are extracted from an input video sequence and a histogram based distribution representation is created using the bag-of-visual-words (BoW) model. In genre categorization, k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifiers with various dissimilarity measures are assessed and evaluated analytically. For the event detection, a hidden conditional random field (HCRF) structured prediction model is utilized. Overall, this framework demonstrates the efficiency and accuracy in processing voluminous data from sports collection and achieves various tasks in video analysis. In this paper, Maxwell's equations are taken as a Hamiltonian system and then written as Hamiltonian canonical equations by using the functional variation method. The symplectic and ADI schemes, which can be extracted by applying two types of approximation to the time evolution operator, are explicit and implicit scheme in computational electromagnetic simulation, respectively. Since Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) encounter low accuracy and high dispersion, the more accurate simulation methods can be derived by evaluating the curl operator in the spatial direction with kinds of high order approaches including high order staggered difference, compact finite difference and scaling function approximations. The numerical dispersion of the symplectic and ADI schemes combining with the three high order spatial difference approximations have been analyzed. It has been shown that symplectic scheme combining with compact finite difference and ADI scheme combining with scaling function performance better than other methods. Both schemes can be usefully employed for simulating and solving the large scale electromagnetic problems.

A novel image content authentication algorithm based on Laplace spectra was proposed. Outstanding feature points are extracted from the original image and a cipher point is inserted. A relational graph is then built, and the Laplace spectra of the graph are calculated to serve as image features. The Laplace spectra are quantized then embedded into the original image as a watermark. In the authentication step, the Laplace spectra of the authenticating image are calculated and compared with that of the watermark embedded in the authenticating image. If both of the spectra are identical, the image passes the authentication test. Otherwise, the tamper is found. The experimental results show that the proposed authentication algorithm can effectively detect the event and the location when the original image content is tampered viciously.

RGB-Thermal object tracking attempts to locate target object using complementary visual and thermal infrared data. Existing RGB-T trackers fuse different modalities by robust feature representation learning or adaptive modal weighting. However, how to integrate dual attention mechanism for visual tracking is still a subject that has not been studied yet. In this paper, we propose two visual attention mechanisms for robust RGB-T object tracking. Specifically, the local attention is implemented by exploiting the common visual attention of RGB and thermal data to train deep classifiers. We also introduce the global attention, which is a multimodal target-driven attention estimation network. It can provide global proposals for the classifier together with local proposals extracted from previous tracking result. Extensive experiments on two RGB-T benchmark datasets validated the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

Digital image processing is an interdisciplinary course, which needs students have a strong background in mathematics. To help them change from passive learning to active learning, teaching reform and innovation of the course "Digital Image processing Experiments" is discussed in this paper. The combined platform of experiments includes TI DSP experimental box and three different kinds of programming languages. The six experimental projects cover the basic theories of digital image processing. The result can offer a significant reference for the teaching innovations in the other related specialties.

A Dual-band Monopole Antenna with EBG for Wearable Wireless Body Area Networks

This paper proposes a dual-band wearable monopole antenna adopting an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure, which operates at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz ISM bands and is suitable for wearable applications. Both the monopole antenna and the EBG structure are fabricated on an F4B semi-flexible substrate having a dielectric constant of 2.2. The EBG structure effectively isolates the human body from the radiation of the antenna and reduces the specific absorption rate (SAR) of it by more than 97.5%. This improves the antenna gain and the peak gain reaches 9.1 dBi at 5.8 GHz. The wearable performance of the antenna showed that it can sustain good performance even under realistic human body loading. Besides, the antenna has a small size, which makes it ideal for wearable applications. © ACES

Shot type is useful information for semantic sports video analysis. Most existing approaches utilize predefined rules and domain knowledge to derive shot types in sports video. Although these methods have achieved promising results in some specific games, it is hard to extend them from one sport to another. To address this problem, we propose a generic approach to classify shots in sports video. Our approach utilizes bag of visual words model to represent key frame for each shot based on Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) feature points;either Support Vector Machine (SVM) or Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (PLSA) are then employed to classify key frame to determine shot type. As our approach relies little on domain knowledge, it can be more easily extended to different sports. We have evaluated our shot classification approach over five types of sports video and have achieved promising results. To show the usefulness and effectiveness of our shot classification, we apply the results of shot type to detect events in basketball video via a generative-discriminative model. In addition, we have observed that some common visual parts frequently appear across various shots in the same sport or even different but relevant sports. For instance, soccer and basketball are relevant sports in the sense of field-ball game. Motivated by this observation, we attempt to alleviate the problem of insufficient sports video data in some applications by sharing these visual parts across different but relevant kinds of sports. Multi-interactive dual-decoder for RGB-thermal salient object detection

RGB-thermal salient object detection (SOD) aims to segment the common prominent regions of visible image and corresponding thermal infrared image that we call it RGBT SOD. Existing methods don’t fully explore and exploit the potentials of complementarity of different modalities and multi-type cues of image contents, which play a vital role in achieving accurate results. In this paper, we propose a multi-interactive dual-decoder to mine and model the multi-type interactions for accurate RGBT SOD. In specific, we first encode two modalities into multi-level multi-modal feature representations. Then, we design a novel dual-decoder to conduct the interactions of multi-level features, two modalities and global contexts. With these interactions, our method works well in diversely challenging scenarios even in the presence of invalid modality. Finally, we carry out extensive experiments on public RGBT and RGBD SOD datasets, and the results show that the proposed method achieves the outstanding performance against state-of-the-art algorithms.
