The measurement of granules is the most foundational problem in granular computing. The paper is intended to study the measurement of granules on a finite or infinite set. For a finite set we discuss the measurement of granules corresponding to an equivalence relation on a finite set and introduce a definition of conditional granularity in order to distinguish those granules with the same granularity. For an infinite set we can define different granularity in different questions, but we give the basic idea of granularity, that is, the granularity of a granule is the sum of the relative information contents of its atomic granules.

The expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is a popular approach for parameter estimation of finite mixture model (FMM). A drawback of this approach is that the number of components of the finite mixture model is not known in advance, nevertheless, it is a key issue for EM algorithms. In this paper, a penalized minimum matching distance-guided EM algorithm is discussed. Under the framework of Greedy EM, a fast and accurate algorithm for estimating the number of components of the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is proposed. The performance of this algorithm is validated via simulative experiments of univariate and bivariate Gaussian mixture models.

Target detection by non-cooperative illuminator is a study hotspot in electronic warfare field, with'four countering' potential advantages for passive radar. One of the major problems in continuous wave bistatic radar is Direct path interference (DPI). Conventional solutions to this problem is the use of an adaptive antenna, steering null towards the interference. Unfortunately the null depth obtained by this technology is not enough for surveillance radar. First of all, DPI appeared in passive radar based on non-cooperative FM broadcast transmitter is analyzed in this paper. Secondly, a DPI cancellation based on Adaptive fractional delay estimation (AFDE) is in detail introduced how to deal with this problem. Finally, a passive radar experimental system based on non-cooperative FM broadcast transmitter is provided, simulation results by real collected data show applying the method proposed in this paper is effective in suppression DPI.

Target detection by a noncooperative illuminator is a topic of general interest in the electronic warfare field. First of all, direct-path interference (DPI) suppression which is the technique of bottleneck of moving target detection by a noncooperative frequency modulation(FM) broadcast transmitter is analyzed in this article; Secondly, a space-time-frequency domain synthetic solution to this problem is introduced: Adaptive nulling array processing is considered in the space domain, DPI cancellation based on adaptive fractional delay interpolation (AFDI) technique is used in planned time domain, and long-time coherent integration is utilized in the frequency domain; Finaily, an experimental system is planned by considering FM broadcast transmitter as a noncooperative illuminator, Simulation results by real collected data show that the proposed method has a better performance of moving target detection.

One of the major problems in continuous wave bistatic radar based on FM radio transmitter is direct path interference(DPI). This is the signal received directly from a transmitter by the receive channel antenna. The DPI and the reflected signal are coherent, have similar structure except for the mutual delay and Doppler frequency shift. To detect targets it is necessary to suppress or remove the DPI signal. First of all, the DPI signal based on FM radio transmitter is analyzed. Secondly, the approach based on adaptive nulling array processing is introduced in detail to solve this problem. Finally, associated signalprocessing schemes of the FM-radio-based passive radar is discussed. Simulation results by applying real collected data show the proposed method is effective.

The DS-CDMA signal model and the noisy linear Independent Component Analysis (ICA) model are analyzed in this paper. Comparing these models shows that they have the same form. The adaptive minimum mean-square error (MMSE) multiuse detection based on ICA is proposed. It uses the output of adaptive MMSE multi-user detection to initialize the ICA iterations, not only the known spread information of interesting user is used to overcome the uncertainness of ICA, but also the character of statistical independence is used. The simulation results show that the performance is improved obviously.

The different approaches used for target decomposition (TD) theory in radar polarimetry are reviewed and three main types of theorems are introduced: those based on Mueller matrix, those using an eigenvector analysis of the coherency matrix, and those employing coherent decomposition of the scattering matrix. Support vector machine (SVM), as a novel approach in pattern recognition, has demonstrated success in many fields. A new algorithm of target classification, by combining target decomposition and the support vector machine, is *** conduct the experiment, the polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data are used. Experimental results show that it is feasible and efficient to target classification by applying target decomposition to extract scattering mechanisms, and the effects of kernel function and its parameters on the classification efficiency are significant.
